Given my mother is one of the women who was "exploited" from a third world country, I very much disagree with this perspective. My mother's family greatly benefitted from her decision to marry someone from the western world. I don't think she has any regrets on her decision and is quite happy living in a better country and sending money to her family back home to help them out. She has put many of her family through college in her home country due to allowing herself to be "exploited" by someone practicing "imperialism." Now my mother spends her days happily watches tv, plays video games, bingo, and mahjongg in an air conditioned home instead of living in her miserable home country. With all the issues my mother has had medically, I am sure she would have died a long time ago if she hadn't moved to the western world. Is her marriage ideal? Not even close, but she isn't abused like her sisters and mother were by their spouses in a country where divorce is illegal.

I don't see any issue with people being a passport bro. It wouldn't be my thing because I don't like traditional gender norms, but I have no problem with others doing it. If anything, women should encourage men to do that to get these men out of the local dating pool.

A couple things to note. Not all of us are going to dirt poor countries. I have never been to a dirt poor country, im an american so most countries i visit are generally poorer than america, but also in those countries im usually staying in regions that are not dirt poor. People in CDMX are not all begging to come live in the US, certainly people in Poland were not either.

In some cities its like half foreign tourists anyway. I meet girls on dating apps, in hostels, in bars, and half of them are other tourists just like me. And people on vacation are just more open minded in general. Its way way way easier to bang american girls who you meet in a hostel in Amsterdam then it is to bang american girls you meet in a bar in Seattle.

Another thing is being a traveler, and speaking a second language and just being novel does give you plenty of play even putting aside the money thing.

Im a 24 YO guy and im upfront about being on a 1 month trip. I dont think anyone I slept with had any delusions about marrying me for a passport.

And Not all of us can't get laid at home. Sick anti-social scared and sexually repressed american culture definitely raises the difficulty level, but the majority of my lays are in the US.. Everyone needs to experience travel.

Nothing about this is automatically exploitation. Two adults choosing to date or marry each other is not exploitation just because one of them comes from a richer country. If there is coercion, lying, abuse, or fraud, criticize that. The passport part alone does not prove any of that happened.

This also ignores that women abroad have agency. They can prefer foreign men for their own reasons, including stability, lifestyle, personality, marriage goals, or simply not liking the local dating market. Acting like every foreign woman is too helpless to choose for herself is its own kind of condescending framing.

1.) I born in country that was poor and had a lot of passportbros in 90s. Most of these guys were from Europe and US, mostly US. They came on working trips and sometimes took with them "new wifes" to US. And for these women it was a ticket from shitshow that was happening in their country, yeah money and passport was the main reasons why they went with that, but it's not slavery, it was golden ticket for them.

2.) A lot of passport bros are delusional AF, if they are miserable pieces of shit, noone will really want to live with them. A lot of destinations they are coming to are not the way they believe. Women from the country i mentioned earlier believed internationaly to be a good trad wife. These fuckers can't even imagine what they are getting into, it means all his money are de-facto hers, it means princess treatment, expensive gifts and so on.

Banning marriage visas would not stop PPBs. Thanks to WFH, PPBs go and live in country. Thailand's average income is significantly higher than it's neighbors in part because so many foreigners live there and work remotely. Ending the visa program will only stop them from bringing them to the US, but will not stop them from just moving to those countries.

Your final comments about hygiene lead me to believe you don't actually care aboit foreign women. You're just offended that a small group of men are getting things you don't think they deserve.

the idea that only romantically unsuccessful men can enjoy dating abroad is absolutely laughable. guys moving abroad, working online, digital nomads etc. are getting younger and younger and most of them are not social shut-ins that can't get any women in the west. i know because i've been part of those circles for most of my 20s and i can tell you that plenty of guys who have no issues dating in western countries still prefer dating foreign women. not all but it's a matter of preference and you would see a lot more men exploring that option if the barrier of entry wasn't so high.

sure, a lot of the relationships - particularly when it comes to older men - are often transactional but it's not exploitation in those cases either. social status and resources will get you more dating options anywhere in the world, including the west and transactional relationships exists everywhere too. most guys aren't travelling to cambodian villages to buy a wife from a family that lives in a mud hut, they're going to relatively wealthy neighborhoods in major cities where women don't rely on them to survive. these women have free will and agency.

besides, there are other factors when it comes to this dating dynamic. western men are taller than the local average in places like SEA or LATAM for example, they can be considered exotic and they're also way more egalitarian. some people like to paint PPBs as inherently misogynistic, meanwhile the women's home countries are much less egalitarian, more patriarchal, have higher rates of domestic abuse, infidelity, alcohol abuse and so on. if you actually wanted what's best for these women, you would not want to limit their options.

whenever i see these one-sided and generalizing takes i can't help but feel that it's just another attempt at controlling male behavior for women's benefit. i've noticed that some women really don't like it when men have other options and they can't dictate the dating rules.

In a lot of cases where the woman ends up getting married to a foreigner she ends up with a better life than she would if she had married a poor local. Furthermore, this kind of thing brings in remittance wealth to a poorer country. This is why men going overseas to meet women is not always a bad thing, and why it is not likely to ever be banned soon, at least by the poorer countries. I doubt it will be banned by wealthier countries, either. Quite a few conservative men or military men meet their spouses this way.

Sex is economics, it always has been. A woman has a product to market, i.e. her body. A man has his product, which is his ability to provide.
