Being single for the average woman is a choice that they can back out of at any time, for the average man it's not and they have no recourse except extreme luck to change it. I'm unfortunately an average man and I've tried every technique/piece of advice I've heard over the years but I've found that all of my efforts have essentially been multiplying by zero because I'm 5'4". So I guess I'm going to try and just do things that make me happy and improve me for me for the rest of my life and try to accept that I'll probably never get to experience romantic love. I've tried working out to lose weight and get fit, changing my clothes/hair, socializing more, changing my pictures for OLD. I don't think my face is that bad, I've had women tell me I'm cute before. I also have a stable job and a decent income. So I'm just not sure, maybe I'm just socially awkward because I have ADHD. I have gotten laid before, but that was back when I was in college and was around enough single girls my age that I got lucky to find someone. The adult world seems much more difficult to meet women especially because I work with mostly men and no women close to my age. I've tried joining groups outside of work that are related to my interests/hobbies to meet people but pretty much all of the women in those are already taken which seems to be a common theme where I live. I could be talking to one girl and having a good conversation but I'd turn around for one second and chad would already be wooing her with little effort. One of my female friends did suggest volunteering at this concert venue in town that she volunteers at because lots of women my age tend to volunteer there so I think I'll try that for the summer. But that's the only idea I've got at the moment.

“Being tied down to an ugly/poor man” - in your hypothetical example here, who chose this? This is at the core of something that many men find incredibly annoying. Women having this tendency to act as though they have no agency over their own choices and decisions. But even in this hypothetical example, it is a choice they themselves made, and is an option that was open to them to either take or leave.
