Definitely communication style. The most intimidating man I ever worked for was a rich middle eastern man. He was very average looking in every way and was a man of few words but when he spoke it was scary af.

If you’re quiet and have a serious demeanor and keep to yourself that’s intimidating to most people in western cultures because we’re supposed to have this fake friendly demeanor with everyone. People will feel like they don’t know what to say to you and how you’ll react to whatever they do say. Big guys on the other hand can be some of the biggest goofballs and jokesters

I think this would be a more interesting question for men since your 6'5 black belt friend also finds you intimidating. I'd be more interested in what makes a bigger guy feel intimidated by a smaller guy.

All men are physically intimidating to me as a woman because they could all pretty easily kill me with their bare hands. That's not something I ever really consciously think about when interacting with men but somewhere in the animal brain that knowledge is always there.

I can't say I recall ever feeling socially intimidated by a man. In that sense I find women much more intimidating because they're my competition and who I'm sizing myself up against.

You are physically intimidating to other men. As someone commenting most men are physically intimidating to women unless the woman is very strong or physically skilled. I have been told I am intimidating to men, because I am a partner at a law firm and make money and a woman that is very attractive can be too. A man that is attractive can be as well, money success power. For me I knew my husband was the right man for me after years of dating when he intimidated me, that had never happened. He is 6’3 but that was not why. I am american and had not left the country, he had won the green card lottery and moved here 20 years ago, he spoke three languages and had traveled the world, he was smarter than I was, he had an accent, but most importantly I did not intimidate him.

At work - people who aren’t naturally assertive, but want to be and in the process they are actually turning aggressive. They generally have difficulties controlling their emotions.

They’re intimidating, because you don’t know how they’ll react and the unknown/unpredictability is scary.

it’s basically like saying you’re “stiff competition.” you have a positive quality (or multiple) that overwhelms people. the best way i can describe it is through black slang lol

idk if the girls still do this but for a while they’d say “pressure” to other girls or comment that under their social media posts. to say “pressure” is to say she’s applying pressure, as in she’s pushing you and/or others to get on her level.

you said it was meant positively so i would assume your friend meant it this way.

Most of the time for me it's the vibe people give off and the small things they do. Are they getting closer to me? Trying to cut me off from my friends? Staring hard at me? Do they give a vibe of "nope". Physical appearance plays a role. Is someone muscular? Unkempt looking? Dressed in a certain way to go unnoticed or to be unidentified?

I find most men intimidating unless they’re on the shorter side. However, some guys can be a little rough around the edges, which makes me not want to hang around them. Those I also consider intimidating.

it’s all in how you carry yourself. my partner is not a big dude- but he’s quiet and observant and has all the confidence in the world. he walks with intent and purpose and ease. some men have a big presence without doing or saying much of anything and that can be intimidating

Intimidating? When you can tell someone has nothing to lose, so they're willing to stab you/shoot you and risk jail over moderate transgressions.

Yea I have gone through life hearing that a lot. People always say you are so much nicer than I imagined when I first heard you speak. I think it has to do with my usually serious deep voice. I am not that big in person. I always considered myself average well not so much after getting fat 6’2” 290. But back when I weighed sub 200.

My face lineaments are a costant frown and like anger. It looks attractive, but i look always mad or tired. Add that if i want something i will deadstare in your eyes and then speak with my soft, deep voice in a pretty deep tone. I don’t need to scream, as my voice can be heard very well in every kind of scenario.

It depends on the demeanor. Some people are stranger or have a more passive aggressive style of talking which can put you on edge. They seem like they might snap at any moment.
