Whereas if you're chilling at someone's place after a date and tryna get laid, it's good to try again if she initially refuses. The fact that you successfully asked her out and that both of you are hanging out at someone's place afterwards shows that the attraction is there. Being a dad is an awful deal, the kid might not be yours, you get maybe a week off for some Bonding, you biologically can't feed them so they automatically like you less and trying to get 50% custody is a battle

I know, I know. Another comment about n count. But I need to get this out and then I’m deleting this app. Again.

The thing about expecting people to maintain exceptionally low n counts is that, most people want to find one person with whom to settle down, right? Even if it’s not marriage, most people want to find one person with whom to have children, share their finances, share the responsibilities of general life, etc. And most people prefer that their relationship is monogamous.

So, the lower n count a person tries to maintain, the fewer chances they have to select a LTR partner who is sexually compatible with them. For example, if you think people should maintain their virginity until marriage, they would get one chance to pick someone with whom they click in bed. And if you’re not satisfied in bed? Well now you’re stuck with them for the rest of your life— or at least that’s how it’s supposed to be, in the context of marriage. Or if you think like, more than 3 partners is too many, you then give people 3 or less chances to find someone with whom their sexually compatible.

And someone is gonna pipe up and say, “You can just communicate and explore with your partner to make the sex better.” To which I’d say… sometimes? But sometimes people are just into different things that their partners aren’t, or their partners don’t desire sex as frequently as they do, or their body parts just don’t please one or both partners… there’s so many places where two people can just be fundamentally incompatible. In the cases where the couples aren’t incompatible, but one partner is dissatisfied with the sex: it’s a lot harder to let your partner know what you want them to do differently if you have limited experience with anything different.

Yeah, you can try new things with the same partner, but how do you know that your partner is doing the thing you’re trying “correctly” and that it’s not for you, vs if s/he is just bad at whatever it is s/he is doing and that you might like it if they just tweaked their technique? What if you try lots of things and nothing is appealing to you and you start to get discouraged and not look forward to sex because it’s not enjoyable to you, and then you start avoiding it, and it becomes a deadbedroom situation? One or both partners are just supposed to be sexually dissatisfied for the rest of their lives? That sounds like a recipe for cheating and divorce.

You might get lucky and marry the first person you sleep with and have an amazing sex life. But you also might not. You don’t really know what the sex is like with a person until you two start having sex. So I cannot understand the point of expecting people to limit the number of chances they get to find someone compatible.

Like, I think I was perfectly satisfied with 2 of the many, many people I slept with? (And I married one of them.) The odds would not have been good for me. And I never became less interested in sex, nor did it become “less meaningful” with my eventual husband. It didn’t prevent me from bonding with him. So I don’t regret accruing a high n count at all.

I don’t think most people need to or should have sex with as many people as I did, but I certainly think that most people are going to be more sexually satisfied in their LTR if they had slept with, say, a handful of partners, vs only 1 or 2.

Just think about it.
