One of my exes told me I would look better thinner. I had a BMI of 19 at the time and had been approached by a modelling scout the day before.

I think those two things might have been connected.

I stayed with him until I realised that he wasn’t going anywhere with his career/art/whatever, and for all his talk he really wasn’t that smart.

Give a middling guy a chance and he’ll treat you like you’re the ugly one.

this happened to my best friend

My best friend is and always was 5’3 and 115-120lb

She is beautiful and has never had any sort of weight issue

Her awful ex husband had the audacity to call her fat, he said to her “before we got married you promised you wouldn’t get fat, now you’re getting fat”,

He caused my poor friend to have body image issues on top of the stress he already caused her from being a massive abusive narcissist

And to top it all the ex husband was obese, pushing 40, (my friend was early 20s), he was also receding and so so ugly and he lived with his mom

I’m glad she left his ugly fat ass

It's not even about her weight. He, and most men just know weight is our "Achilles heel", so they attack it.

For example, my mom was and still is a naturally thin woman. But, whenever my stepdad was annoyed with her or wanted to hurt her feelings, he would comment about her weight. He knew she would take that to heart. What's worse is the total mindfuck of being a natural size 4, but being told "whoa you're getting heavy, look how much you make the bed sink when you sit!"

In the meantime, he was a chronic cheater, with you guessed it—bigger women. So it was never about my mom's weight. It was just an easy and effective way to knock her down a peg. And indeed, following those comments she would go through a frenzy of diet pills, workout vids, laxatives. I'll never forget seeing her laid on the floor passed out from exhaustion after one of her Taebo sessions. Smh. She was a beginner and would do the full 1hr workout in one go. All because this scrote told her she was "heavy" at 135 lbs.

I was actually just thinking about this yesterday. I have a tendency to wear form-fitting shirts and loose pants (because it’s just the look I’ve always preferred) and I’ve been feeling a little puffy lately. I was getting ready for work and questioning if I should wear a more flowy shirt to hide my “puff”, when I was actually really comfortable in my clothes. I thought about all the guys I work with and how many of them are walking around with their bellies swollen from years of beer and tacos and Little Debbie’s. I thought “why on earth would I fear their judgement?” It’s fucked up that we are judged on our appearances by men, when we are in any stage of life, in any way our bodies change, when they so often let themselves go. But we are supposed to look like models for life. I’m not even dating right now because I’m So. Fucking. Tired. of the “you’d look good in these clothes,” “why don’t you grow your hair out?” and general “I’d like you to change in some way (appearance-wise)” comments when I am literally not only just perfectly fine with the way I look, I see myself in the mirror every day and think I look fucking fantastic.

Whenever someone comments on my weight gain, I'll just tell them - yes, I gained weight, and that's cause I'm in a happy relationship now! Happy relationships make both parties gain weight.

It usually shuts them up.
