Honestly I don’t think it’s worth posting any even remotely personal photos online to Reddit period. Men harass women constantly and Reddit has shown time and again they do not value the safety of their community and expect moderators of individual subreddits to do all the heavy lifting.

Always have separate accounts that individually do not hold information that can uniquely identify you. I might mention I'm blonde and 28 years old in one account, mention I live in Virginia and enjoy hiking with my two Australian shepherds in another. But not too many details together in one account. Also, try adding little white lies here and there to throw someone off your trail. Men are creeps, men are stalkers, they fucking suck!

Also, there are multiple places online where reddit comments are logged immediately as they're created. Anything you post can be linked back to your account if someone has a link to the thread in which your comment was originally posted. I won't go into too much detail, but the take home message is that anyone can view everything you've ever posted with your account. Deleting your comments does nothing. Editing your comment many minutes or hours after posting (depending on the archiving service) does nothing because the original comment has already been archived. The services I'm talking about are free for anyone to access. You have been warned.

I would caution ladies to even have multiple FDS-specific reddit accounts. Yes, it takes a while to get approved, but remember that that process protects the rest of the ladies here, while perhaps giving you a moment to pause and reflect on whether your contribution is high-value. At least that's how I spin it in a positive way.

Signing off, but quick reminder: men have driven us to have this level of safety precautions. It is their fault.

Internet safety tips (in general):

Never post photos, location, personal details, anything that can identify you. This includes where you work, where you went to school, a recommendation for a local sandwich shop. This advice applies to not just FDS-- if you have another Reddit account for example-- do not post any personal or identifying information, ever.

Keep your social media minimal, make it all private, don't have any public photos of yourself. Don't EVER post your location. Be careful who you add to your friends lists, and even your network on LinkedIn. Don't leave your LinkedIn completely public either. There is SO much info on your LinkedIn page, that should just not be available for any Tom Dick or Butthead in the world to see.

Internet safety is important not just to avoid being doxxed, stalkers, to avoid someone impersonating you and assassinating your character, it's also important for general privacy concerns. The more you open yourself up on the internet, the more likely it is that you will be a target for some nefarious purpose. Identity theft, someone using your identity to scam others, countless things.

There are just so many people with a loosey goosey internet presence, and they're clearly stupid and don't value internet safety, but don't follow what stupid reckless people do. Reddit is a very dangerous place in particular.

Cyber crimes of all kinds are rising everyday. The vast majority of people have no idea what risk they expose themselves to when they use the internet. Have some common sense, watch some internet safety videos, USE A VPN (also on your phones).

You can change details and/or put in little details hinting to your identity (blonde, live in a certain country/state/big city, worked at x job, etc.) that are absolutely false to throw them off, and change accounts after a couple months or sooner if you use it often.

I asked about this earlier in relation to having an alternate account and removing any connection to the sub from there because of the risk of doxing. I have done so but am now hesitant to leave up one or two pictures I have from a completely different sub up because, you never know. Wow! What is up with men in their need for vengeance? This behavior honestly reminds me of stuff I first came across regarding the military with groups like Marines United. That's a super fun scandal to look up! But it's the same exact thing like they would talk amongst themselves, as it were, to ruin women particularly if they had cheated on them. I read on some post where some guy was pissed off at a woman for some reason so to get back at her he told the guys in his unit that she had cheated on her boyfriend or husband who was deployed and said 'Make her famous, boys' while passing naked pics of her to these guys to post wherever they could. Garbage behavior!

I’ve had literally no social media since 2015. Maybe my Reddit accounts? Or a pinterest board? I deleted it after a particularly nasty person facebook messaged me from my dead dads account. I flipped out and said NOPE and shitcanned all of it.

It was used as a tool to harass me. It was a constant uphill battle of defending opinions, exposing me in a uncomfortable way, competition, and endless unpaid unreciprocated emotional labor for random men who would msg me and use me as a pseudo therapist. Uggh

i miss out on some social stuff but it’s been worth it to not have a trace
