Bit of a rhetorical question here, though it's just blowing my mind right now.

In my OLD profile (yes, ikik, uninstall it, but there's still a pandemic and I WFH sooo here we are) I have this line:

I'm looking for:
not a coffee/walk date. I own an espresso machine, tea maker, & nitro cold brew keg. I do daily walks with my dog in the trail behind my house.

I had naively assumed that clearly stating my standards and clearly stating why I find both pointless would have been met with, "oh yes, ofc, that makes sense." But no.

Instead, I find myself playing a fun game of waiting for a man to stubbornly push a coffee/walk date anyway. So I wish them a solid, "good luck with that" and unmatch and carry on.

I just so confused how they expect their requests to be met. Do they honestly just think I'm going to turn around and be like, "oh yea, turns out I am a very silly woman who had no idea she really just wanted a quick jaunt in the woods with you, a stranger, (omg and your dog tho - I've never seen one as cute as yours) and/or to be quizzed on my cafe knowledge for a half hour until you determine that I'm "good enough" to be razzle-dazzled with Real Food™! Thank goodness you came into my life and proved my standards to be pointless. I'm very happy to do the walk/coffee date after all!"

Just truly... Did all their other coffee dates make them so caffeinated they forgot how to read or something? I can't even.

The icing on the cake is that I also point out that I'm up for doing any of the free-yet-very-fun tourist things in our very touristy area, and they still push a fucking coffee date. So it's not even a money thing. @_@

EDIT: To the people telling me to take this line out since it makes me seem bitter: no. I give my justifications. If you want to read between the lines, that's on you. A man who looks at that and goes, "wow, she's bitter," isn't the kind of man I want to date.

EDIT 2: Deeply saddened that I got banned from a certain subreddit I was featured on just now. I was having so much fun getting to the bottom of this coffee-dates-only phenomenon. Your mods are no fun at all. :( LEMME DO SCIENCE, YOU CHICKENS.

EDIT 3: I just want y'all to know that I just cancelled a date with a guy who - unprompted - texted me a picture of a mutilated animal and asked how long I thought it took it to die from its wounds. He cute, but like, I don't wanna die. Pretty glad I went the "let's meet for brunch or dinner this weekend" route and kept a dialogue open with him over the course of this week instead of rushing to meet him for coffee after a few sentences. This has been the most unexpected of benefits of going this route... Years ago, I would have been in a pickle about now. Holy shit.
