I would argue for most people it does. If it applies to them it shouldn’t but if it’s something they don’t like then it should. It boggles my mind. If a recovering alcoholic was looking to date, and connected with someone who drank regularly, should they believe them if they said “If we started dating then I would stop”? Single parents, would you date someone who was convicted of abusing kids? Of course you wouldn’t because the past does in fact matter. Throughout my life I’ve noticed that the past is a pretty good predictor of the future. It’s not perfect but if you listen to someone’s words, and look at their current actions, and take the past into account, you end up looking like an oracle. So why should people looking for monogamous relationships disregard a potential partners sexual past? Most people will agree that the past does matter until you start talking about someone’s sexual past, then it shouldn’t matter. It makes no sense.
