I work with builders. They are some of the most genuine men I've ever met. I do t know why anyone wouldn't go out with someone in a blue collar trade. Plus the trades are well paid. They are all married as well

Husband is a metal fabricator. We met when we were both teaching in China and he decided to go into the trades when we were together. The job makes him happy and he's proud of the work he does, the salary will be pretty good when he gets his red seal, the union offers great benefits, that's enough for me.

I used to. If I did it again the values HAVE to be there. Some of them are downright rude about their view of my degrees and student debt. Some of them were very…I’m gonna say..old fashioned, in their view regarding my “place” while dating them.

Then they would get intimidated when they met up with my friends who are in law or finance or computer science. Even my computer science friends who also don’t have degrees intimidated them.

But it’s not all blue collar workers. Again if the values were there I’d be fine!

Not answering the question but i just want to contextualize this. These are maybe some of these are starting salaries for working class jobs.

For instance, if you gained some skills as a medical tech, you could move on to more specialized technical jobs and make 50-60k. A little ambition and time can get you much further than the salaries listed.

When did we start considering service work "blue collar" almost every factory in my area pays double or more than the service jobs you listed off. And they are automated or partially automated.

Of course women will date skilled labor blue collar guys. I'll net six figures this year and have a pension. The cost of living is also very low in my area.

They are hiring people off the street right now. No college, no trade 26 an hour with pension and 20 dollar a week insurance. Once you've put in a few years you start making what I make when you move into an even better job.

My husband is a welder. I like tradesmen. I wouldn't date a server or barista at this point in my life (mid 30s) but did when I was younger when those jobs were more age appropriate. But those jobs aren't typically what's meant by blue collar.

(If I were single) Food service, Starbucks or bus driver - nope. Medical assistant, yes. I’d just wonder why they’ve got to their 30s and haven’t gotten bored. Medical assistant seems more like the kind of job you’d do because you care/want to make a difference, so more vocational, which I can definitely get behind. If it’s a skilled trade that’s also fine.

Most of the men I’ve dated have been blue collar, no degree. I have a degree but just don’t care as long as he can support himself, and most guys where I live don’t have degrees. Skilled blue color workers can make good money. Physical jobs generally mean more fit bodies too without having to make more effort to go to the gym… the downside is they can also be hard on the body, so I just expect to do more housework. Basically as long as he’s employed and not a cop, entertainer, lawyer, or politician, I don’t care.

I dated blue collared men. I have couple degrees, two of which in engineering fields so as a female engineer, it was common to be surrounded by technicians and sometimes romance happens. It never worked thou past the bedroom. There was always major differences between how we processed thoughts and saw the world.

Why? I don't want to be the only one working. I used to date men that were decent looking, into me and gave me "the tinglies" as I call it. A lot of those guys, didn't work at all (I was in my late teens, early 20's). When I got with my husband I was 21, he didn't work. His family gave him spending money here and there and told him to focus on school. After my husband died (I was 28) and I got on dating apps. I didn't ask. Ended up going out with two guys that didn't work. My boyfriend now (the second guy I met) re-dropped out of school after two years and now is a doggy daycare manager.

If we break up or he dies though, I am def making working a requirement. But the kind of work I am not particularly worried about. Just help me pay some of these bills please. Because if I wanted kids, I would have had them.

Are we students and/or it's his first or temporary job? It's fine and I'd date him without much issues as long as he was working on getting his education or qualifications. I am used to a good lifestyle, I want to have kids in the future and I 100% will help my mother financially when/if she needs it. Hopefully I will be able to afford all of it in the future, but I wouldn't choose to date a man knowing that I'd have to sponsor the desirable lifestyle for him in the future as I'm just not sure I'd be able to pull it off.

Having said that I don't mind doing it for the person I'm already in love with. My husband and I both make quite little these days, but it's a temporary situation. If things go well, most likely I'll outearn him even more in the future but both will have a good income. We both want to have a good lifestyle, have kids and we know that we will have to help our parents. All of it is costly, so it makes sense to plan our lives accordingly. Ironically enough he does do a blue collar job now. But as I've said it's temporary and what worries me more is health risks, not his income.

Two, I grew up almost exclusively around white collar people and nerds. I wouldn't be too compatible with someone that works in a much different environment. It's not impossible for it to work, but just unlikely.

If most women would honestly say no then that means romantic love is dead. It means that status, money is important to them than love. If true love is real it won't match your economic aspirations. The odds finding true love are very low, the odd of finding true love who belongs to an ideal economic tier are impossibly low.

For all our social progressivism and tearing away tradition we've wound up with a very traditional dating scene where some women choose partners on a criteria similar to aristocrats or brahmins.

I would never date a blue collar and it has nothing to do with money more so with the fact that because they work such a physical demanding job they all expect you, their partner, to cook for them, like their lunch for the day and when they come home for the food to be ready and served and that doesn't sound like a dream to me.

Depends. As someone with two Masters degrees I would feel uncomfortable dating a man with significantly less education than me. In part because these men often seem very insecure about being involved with me and in my experience they are more likely to f-k around or hurt me due to their insecurities. But I would be interested in a man with a blue collar job who had real talent and made significant money. I’m working alongside indie filmmakers rn for example and a lot of them have blue collar day jobs but hella talent and there’s a lot of mutual respect there. As long as there’s that respect, yeah 💚

I have my master’s degree and am settled into a good career. Before meeting my husband, I dated a painter for a while. He was a decent boyfriend and we got along well, but there were fundamental differences in our life experiences and interests. I enjoy having intellectual, thought-provoking conversation, and that didn’t happen very often in that particular relationship. Ultimately, it didn’t work out, and that was one of the factors.

My husband, on the other hand, has his bachelor’s degree and has many of the same interests and views on various issues as me. One of the things I find so attractive about him is his intelligence and wittiness, which was lacking in the previous partner. So, overall, I’d say that education is very important to me. The actual type of job is less important to me, but since college-educated individuals often hold white-collar jobs, I guess I prefer men with those careers in a roundabout way.

There are excellent paying blue collar jobs. Welders for example. Skilled trades are where it's at. But I would worry for their physical health. Ultimately I wouldn't date someone making 40k. I don't want to fight about money all the time because I make way more and I would like them to contribute to retirement and cost of living.

Had it been when I was younger making very little? Sure. But only if they were working towards something.

25F - Not at all. I make more than 3 times any of those. I have life goals and a man who makes that kind of money is a just a hindrance to all my goals. There are way too many men who make more money than I do that would also make great husbands (tech, consultants, entrepreneurs, etc.). I have not been on a date with a man who made less than $175k since I graduated college, so it's definitely a reasonable expectation for me.
