In another recent post I made I described what I considered to be a very tame, subtle and low key and healthy example of an “alpha” male to counter the outlandish and cartoonish negative caricature of what TRP promotes a man behaves like to be attractive.

This was my description of that guy

“ The guy they go on a date with who they fall head over heels for - Sits straight and takes up space but has a calm and still etiquette at the dinner table. Is expressive and smiles, speaks with clarity, charisma and captivating confidence. Is funny, but not an immature idiot. Asks questions and pays attention. Treats waiting staff with respect but commands attention and respect back just by the way he is, with firm eye contact. Goes to pay the bill first but is thankful when you offer to split it. Keeps his phone away whilst with you and speaks with passion about his life and interests but never talks over you and is just as eager to know about yours. He’s also athletic and takes good care of himself.”

Funnily and unexpectedly, it was male posters who gave me the most backlash, arguing that THIS guy I described was some sort of unattainable ideal, a caricature in and of himself, when he’s REALLY not.

He’s who you can be if you do some real work on yourself for a year or two, and if as a man you can’t fathom being like this guy, and he seems so perfect and out of reach, then yeah, maybe most men DO have a personality problem.
