The whole reason why men and women are pressured to find partners is because of the mentality that if you don't have irl partner, you are a loser. If people just accept that preferring fictional characters is no more different than preferring to be single, then there is nothing wrong with it.

Think about it because fictional characters will always beat real people when it comes to compatibility because you can shape the character to however you want and is basically a perfect match to you. Isn't this what people want which is to find the perfect partner? As long as your preference for a fictional partner does not have a negative impact with your social life and how you interact with others, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Guys I’m so sorry but yes, there are higher expectations for men. Because women have choices now! And standards! I hate to break it to you but women have been experiencing this forever – competing with fictional women (plastic surgery, p*rn, etc) and being held to impossible standards. It’s not something I would wish on men but the fact is that this was inevitable. The battle now is teaching men (and continuing to teach women) how to deal with these expectations.

Also I hope people try to remember that what is online is sensationalised and not everyone out there has the same kinds of expectations. And that emotional standards are healthy – physical standards are a different kind of issue but women wanting an emotionally mature guy who isn’t going to make them clean up after them is not crazy behaviour.

Insecurity should not be made fun of! I hope you work through it. I think there is a huge issue where men have not been taught to deal with their emotions properly and are told to cope rather than actually get help. There is no shame in that at all and I’m sorry that people have told you that there is! You deserve the same support as anyone else. But let’s be clear that THAT is the real issue and it’s not about women.
