Someone's past behaviour is the best indicator of their future. If a woman has been incapable of staying committed to a guy more than a few months, she probably isn't good wife material. Similarly, if she has substance abuse or mental health problems in her past, there's a serious risk these issues will rear their head again.

Same reasons that [many, possibly even a plurality of] military veterans have difficult time reintegrating back into civilian life: Because certain lifestyles requires certain mentalities (or cope as some would call it) and those same mentalities are poorly equipped for other lifestyles.

Fundamentally LTRs require duty, sacrifice, commitment, and discipline, which bonds poorly with those who are more used to more carefree and non-committed lifestyles.

The thinking goes:

Women who have been with a lot of men will have less qualms about cheating on you with another man because that barrier for them is much lower. Especially if their range of experiences is broader than yours and you have no idea how you truly compare to other men they’ve been with. And the more ex-FWBs and ex-partners they have in the picture that multiplies the chances they’ll be unfaithful to you. And yes that probably applies to promiscuous men too, but no, the average man has nowhere near that experience.

For what it’s worth, I’m not a promiscuous man either. I’d probably feel uneasy about being in a LTR with a promiscuous woman. It’s like walking blind-folded into a minefield.

Women here will take this as an attack on women’s sexuality but many of them will also claim they don’t find promiscuous men desirable and also see guys like Leonardo DiCaprio as being gross so they’re just being hypocritical.

There’s a reason why most men would find it gross, you increase the risk of not knowing if they’ll be faithful and if your children are really yours. It’s nothing to do misogyny or sexism. It’s evolutionary.

Men naturally are weary of marrying the wrong woman. Given a woman’s optionality for casual sex (they can always sleep up with guys out of their league but not get commitment), guys are naturally gonna be weary trying to turn a Hoe into a housewife. Everyone hates high body counts, including women. It's not an inherently bad thing, but it's usually predictive of instability in other aspects of life. Women only hate body count discussions because they're almost always going to have more bodies than the men they're trying to date.

The objective of any living organism is to procreate, pass on their genes, or at most, if for some reason they can't, to help the genes of those closest to them pass on.

So for any male, there's a risk that their partner by cheating will make them not reproduce, which is basically the same as dying when it comes to passing on genes. For obvious reasons this isn't a concern for females.

So, over time males developed mechanisms to make sure this doesn't happen to them, one of them being a distaste for promiscuous women.

Some will argue that this doesn't apply to modern humans (and some will say it does). Regardless, this is something that has been developing for millennia, so it doesn't matter what us modern humans think about it; it's still there, as an instinct.

If she’s about as great as his usual girlfriends (often in terms of looks, money, and a tolerable personality), then it could still technically be a fling, but maybe he isn’t able or willing to look for commitment at the time

Well the not girlfriend material generally breaks down along two lines:

Absence of positive traits

To me this would be things like lack of ambition, physical looks, intellectual curiosity, intelligence, kindness, useful / helpful skills that make my life nicer like being organised, good with money, good with admin, good aesthetic sense, clean freak, good cook, health & fitness savvy, etc.

Presence of negative treats

Very high body count (20+), unaligned values on raising kids, relationship dynamics, finances, etc., vices, actively negative traits like being selfish, manipulative, etc.

Generally the negative traits are very hard to offset, even one, if pronounced can be an instant disqualifier. Maybe you can overlook one and accept that you'll have to work with it if the positives are just a straight bingo for everything you are looking for.

As for why a lot of men have high body count as an instant disqualifier, well it's just a good heuristic. A very high body count generally really messes you up in relationships. If you think it doesn't, you're just coping.

Thats a bad relationship foundation. Fun can be part off it. But a person you can rely on and lean on and pulls there own weight. Is a value thats important for a long term relationship for both sides. Why if thats not there. They are not seen girlfriend or wife material.

Women have the same but slightly different ways also brutal ways men are not seen as serious prospects. So that prospect is harsh on both sides.

some women don't make good long-term partners and promiscuity is one indicator of that. there's nothing 'sick' about it, reality just isn't a PC safe space. i've been friends with promiscuous women, went to school and college with them, hooked up with a few and my personal experience 100% aligns with the statistics that show a correlation between promiscuity and infidelity or low relationship satisfaction. normal healthy women are generally not looking to get railed by a bunch of random guys, 9 times out of 10 there's something wrong with them to begin with.

why wouldn't men prefer women (for long-term relationships) who have a history of being in committed relationships rather than sleeping around? past behavior is the best indicator of future behavior - and that's not just something people say, it is an actual scientific fact. why should men invest into women that other men took home on a night out at the bar or after a quick chat on tinder? it's not an appealing proposition. there are evo psych explanations for why men have a natural aversion to investing into promiscuous women that make perfect sense and would also explain why female chastity was valued all across different cultures for millennia.

of course men will have different standards when it comes to short-term, casual type of arrangements compared to long-term relationships and marriage - it's an entirely different level of investment. it's only in the west where people are having these discussions and trying to shame men out of their preferences and standards. in most other cultures it's just considered common sense.

Body Count matters, but on the log scale, as in the Order of Magnitude or Body Count.

GF/Wife Material is the same log of body count as you. Not more, and not less. More is the “whore”, and less is just a girl who doesn’t really match your energy. Some guys will put the “less” on a pedestal, but I don’t think those relationships are ideal.

And it’s not because sex makes you dirty somehow, it’s just that it’s a good indicator of your personality and lifestyle.

Even here, it occurs to me that just because one does something in the past doesn't mean they wanted to. Even if they did, it doesn't mean they liked it. Even if they did, it doesn't mean they want to keep doing it. And none of these explanation ultimately have anything to do with me. If I really want something she doesn't, we're just not compatible--but that's about us in the present, not some competition with people from her past.

The way I understand it, there are multiple common explanations, none of which are mutually exclusive.

One is everyone's favorite word: insecurity. Men don't want to feel like they're compared unfavorably to other men. They may also not feel secure in a relationship unless they can rationalize that they are special. Or they may not feel secure because he assumes promiscuity makes her likely to cheat or leave. For this type of man, simply being told, and treated like, he's special and not being compared is insufficient. His requires the alternative to be almost literally impossible to feel truly secure.

For others, it's about values. Sometimes that means shared values: "I wouldn't do it, so I don't see eye-to-eye with any woman who did." Sometimes it's projected values: "I lose respect for her, therefore she must have no respect for herself."

For others still, it's more of a Big Other thing: "The world perceives her as worthless, and I have either internalized that value system or fear my own worth being lowered by association."

I realized far too late that I unconsciously did this, and now I’m self aware enough to consciously do it.

Subconsciously, every girl I dated prior to me realizing what my not wife material criteria concretely were, were placed in that mental box. Even ones I dated for multiple years and talked about marriage with. Here were my reasons that after examination of myself and my actions, desires, and personal needs, prevented me from moving the relationship to a higher level:

Too erratic emotionally, too much of a home body and didn’t like taking trips, was either passively or actively anti-children/family, had chronic conditions that would have impacted quality of life for us or a potential child, not as attractive in the face as I would like, seemed to not take me as seriously as a boyfriend as I would like if I were to become a husband, not positive enough about life.

I never saw it as a “whore/wife dichotomy.” I just dump women if they’re giving off a whore vibe. I would only go the distance with a woman but not marry her if there were things that were too much for me but couldn’t verbalize or identify in the moment. If they had none of those things I mentioned, I would’ve married the first one within months probably. But they all were poor longterm matches, so I kept them in the gf zone.

Well I don’t divide women into whores and wife but my wife material criteria includes things like having shared values. emotional maturity, communication style, positive attitude, division of labours and realistic expectations.

These actually are hard to find, this sub and Reddit love dunking on men when it comes to relationships most of the time for good reasons but not most women are great partners either.
