-going on vacation with only her? Depends on where and why, as well as why I’m not going with them.

-business trip? Well if in this hypothetical reality he was going on work trips and happened to be friends with a female coworker who also had to go on the trip, then I see no reason to be bothered unless I didn’t trust the woman.

-lunch on a regular basis? Fine with me as long as it doesn’t strain our finances.

-confiding things about our marriage? Honestly I’d be glad he has a female friend to go to for her perspective. I’d encourage this actually.

This is assuming I like the person in question and think she’s trustworthy. My husband has a friend who somewhat fits the criteria for this and I would be totally fine with any of these in the right circumstances. If I get a bad feeling from her, haven’t met her, or she doesn’t want me to be around when they’re together I’d want to be more involved.

I trust my husband not to cheat 100%. I also don’t expect women to be lining up to steal him since neither of us really go out much and he prioritizes me so much that it would be a rather difficult endeavor. However, if a woman was acting shady and trying to convince my husband to do these things without me I’d have a problem with it.

But the fact that they were romantically involved changes things. Not because I'd trust her less but because I don't want to meet or know anything about guys who have had sex with her in the past. Retroactive jealousy.

The used to be romantic part throws a spanner in the works. But if you remove that, I'm A-OK with my husband:

- going out drinking and partying just the two of them, depending on a few things

- if they also work together, going on a business trip overnight

- getting lunch on regular basis

- confiding in her about our relationship

The vacation part would be very weird though because we have travel budgets and more critically, time constraints. But let's say he and she were dead set on going to a place where I have no interest in going to, and we can easily afford that trip without having to cut back elsewhere in our life, and he has unlimited PTO that wouldn't be impacted by his taking a week off, then I'd be ok with them two of them going on a trip there.

But both in the business trip and the vacation trip, I'd not be ok with them sharing the same hotel room. AirBnB with two bedrooms is fine.

By and large I view opposite gender friendships positively, and so long as my husband and his female friend aren't weirdly territorial over each other, I'd treat them almost the same as a same sex friend.

I have a male friend I was briefly romantically involved with in college over 15 years ago, lol. It’s never been a problem in my marriage, my husband always knew I had more male friends due to my work and many hobbies being male dominated.

My husband and I typically hang out with our friends together, in a group. I would feel excluded if he hung out with his friends without me, no matter the gender of the friends.

We do go to lunch with friends alone though, because that is usually something happening when we were not working remotely and in the office. My husband and I never worked in the same town, and each of us would go to lunch with friends that worked nearby sometimes. This includes my close friend that is a guy, if he was in the city I worked in for some reason we would go to lunch. Once I rented out some studio space from him and worked out of it a few days a week, and we went to lunch together occasionally.

Most of the other stuff you listed seems odd even if the friend was the same gender. Like I’ve never “partied” with just one person (I guess if you just mean like having a drink after work, we’ve done that, with people of any gender, but I wouldn’t call it partying). And we would never use our limited vacation time to go on a vacation with someone else, wtf? My husband is my best friend, all our vacations are together, even the ones we do with friends (again, as a group).

Yes, that's all fine. (Besides confiding anything about my marriage that I wouldn't want to share with anyone anyway.) That's what being a friend is. If I trust him, I trust him. If I didn't find him trustworthy enough I wouldn't be with him in the first place. So long as they don't give me reason to be concerned (and I assume they'd be very clear about why I shouldn't be), it's fine.

My man and I both travel for jobs, usually for long periods of time. For most of our relationship we almost exclusively only have time together at home throughout the winter. (I have on occasion driven out to where he’s at if I have a few days between jobs) So from spring to fall we’ll both basically be living amongst a plethora of people of the opposite gender and spend almost the entirety of out waking lives with those people.

If we couldn’t trust each other, it would be absolutely pointless to bother being together. So yeah, unless there’s CLEARLY some bullshit going on, I trust him as much as I want him to trust me. I’m FAR more concerned that he’ll break his stupid fucking foot again and miss the whole busy season like he did last year.

I think I would only have a problem with these things because I'm insecure, so it's more my problem than my wife's problem, and I couldn't reasonably expect her to work around my insecurity.

irl I lived with my partner and our very good friend, and all three of us knew he had a crush on her because he would get drunk and apologize for it haha but I never felt uncomfortable with them hanging out alone because I trusted both of them individually quite a bit, but that might have had something to do with him also being my good friend, not just hers. Also, they were never romantically involved. If she wanted to hang out with a man she had been romantically involved with, that would possibly bother me a good bit, but I think it all really depends on the relationship. Also, I will never get legally married, just in case haha regardless, like I said, my insecurity is mostly my own problem

Business trip okay if she's part of the business and there's a good reason for this happening with just the two of them and overnight. No to the rest. But I wouldn't like him having a male friend like this, either. I need a partner to also be my best, closest friend, and I'm not a social person at all and isolate myself pretty deliberately, so only date people who are the same way. If he frequently wanted to run off on vacations and lunches with other people that specifically excluded me, I doubt this could ever be congruous with the kind of loner I'm attracted to in the first place. Confiding private details of our relationship to anyone else is huge dealbreaker regardless of context or closeness.

My ex didn't want me hanging out with my friends alone, which I respected. Resentment started to grown on that aspect since she had so many problems. I thought to myself why should I do this for her if she can't work on her anger issues, stop assuming things, etc. That's when it started to feel like she was controlling me, when she woukdnt work on her own issues. You can't expect someone to change the dynamics of their friendships if you are not willing to work on your own issues.

Nope. I don’t think it’s okay for either gender to be super close friends with anyone of the opposite sex, regardless of whether or not they were ever involved. Unless they are gay. The only one I would maybe be okay with is him getting lunch with a female friend, but only if they were never romantically involved and have been friends for years. If you’re planning on hanging out with the opposite gender outside of a group setting/double date scenario, I think you should always talk to your partner and make sure there’s no boundary being crossed.

What say you?

My boyfriend is still in contact with exes, and has rare meet-ups (always with other mutual friends too) with his first girlfriend, and I'm fine with it. I went with him to one of the meet-ups and it turns out, we get on incredibly well, have a ton in common, and I genuinely like her. We're friends on social media and send each other greetings and cute things we see online.

I trust my boyfriend, but I also trust her too. They're mature adults, not dumb teens. He has no interest in going out with her exclusively, or vacationing with any other woman. Infrequent social hangouts with other mutual friends though is fine.
