I’ve stepped up in situations like this before. The worst was watching THREE men get a girl (legal age is 18 here) shitfaced at a bar. They were practically pouring it down her throat, passing her increasingly limp body from lap to lap. I grabbed a bouncer and the bar manager to observe this with me and the men were grabbed by their shirts and tossed on their asses. My boyfriend and I stayed with her till her mother came to take her home.

I have hauled girls out of back rooms and bathroom stalls, started full on brawls with a few Good Samaritan men at my back against rapey assholes. I will always find a way to intervene. I’d rather embarrass myself being wrong than let that happen to a woman.

Ladies, please also note that predatory men will pull up next to you as you’re leaving the bar and claim to be your Uber driver. It’s pretty easy for a man to spot when a single woman is looking around as she waits for her ride. This has happened to MULTIPLE friends of mine in my city’s popular entertainment district. I’ve literally known 5 or 6 women who were almost abducted this way.

ALWAYS look and make sure the license plate matches your Uber ride and ask them to give you their name!

THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. This guy was trying to take my very drunk friend who could barely walk home from a house party and I was like nah dude, I don't know you and she's single. Another friend and I got her cozied up in a spare bedroom and made sure she had water, a snack, and a trashcan in case she got sick. This dude tried to come in to get her ! I literally had to lock the door so he couldn't get in. She woke up the next morning very confused and didn't remember anything or where she was at first. She was so thankful that we kept him out because he was trying to take her home to have sex with her, and HAD TRIED THIS BEFORE. Women stick together. Men are so gross they will try with a nearly unconscious woman just to get off. Disgusting.

I don’t do drugs and drink rarely (and if I do only 1 or 2 glasses), so I can keep an eye out for my girls in clubs or on festivals. This is when I found out that guys call the sober girl in the group the ‘watch dragon’. They don’t mean it in a nice way, but I sure life up to the name. I once stopped a scrote from literally jumping into a taxi with a girl who was so drunk, she could barely stand.

The sad thing was I wasn't even sure if she would be save alone with the taxi driver.

Do you what "ladies night" used to be circa 2007 (what I saw)? Groups of men would walk around and just pick up drunk girls and walk out with them. That's it. Nothing was ever done about it. If you ever said anything or tried to do anything they would call you crazy and run you out or maybe they would attack and rape you instead. Men prey openly on women. I remember when I was around 20-21 I was hanging out on a bar patio in the city when two men with a drunk women walked by.

She was sandwiched between them and each man had an arm around their shoulder. I could tell that she was barely even conscious as her feet were dragging and her head was swinging from shoulder to shoulder.

At the time I wondered why she would get black out drunk with two guys. Now that I’m older and wiser about men I can’t help but wonder if they roofied her.

My 19th birthday was about two months into my freshman year of college, and by that time we all had fake IDs and were regulars at the “freshman bar,” a skeevy bar in NYC that was notorious for letting underage kids in. I was pretty close with all the (male) bouncers and the main (male) bartender because I always helped them clear tables, clean up spills, and restock the lady’s room with TP and paper towels whenever I was around. Like most girls, I almost always drank for free because of the flirty, yet “harmless” bartender. I even stayed late to hang with them after closing, on occasion.

On my birthday, I went to this bar with some of my friends and my boyfriend at the time. Bouncers obviously let me in, but refused to allow my boyfriend through the door. He told me to go on in, have a drink, and that he’d make his way in soon enough, so I did. I hugged all the (male) employees hello, said hi to a few friends, and sat at the bar to collect my free drink. I texted my boyfriend to let him know that I found us seats.

Next thing I know, I wake up in my boyfriend’s bed the next morning, in my outfit from the night before, smelling of puke and tequila. I woke him up, in panic, to ask what happened. He explained to me that the bouncers let him in 30 minutes later, after a whole lot of arguing, and by the time he found me, I was shit-faced, slumped over in my seat with only half my drink gone, with the bartenders arm around my waist and mouth to my ear.

My boyfriend, a very HVM, immediately knew what had happened, so he tried carrying me out of the bar. The bouncers and bartender stopped us in our tracks and gave him a hard time, insinuating that HE was the one who was trying to take advantage of me, even threatened to call the police. Eventually, they gave up and let us go, but apparently they all seemed reeeeeeal disappointed.

I puked in the cab the whole ride home, in and out of consciousness, and could not make coherent sentences. I have no memory of the night whatsoever. I was terrified, I felt so vulnerable and stupid, and from that moment on, vowed never to trust men like that again. Being the “girl who loves to party” has gotten me in MANY sketchy situations, some much, MUCH worse than that.

TL;DR: if you see a too-drunk girl in the bar, try to help her yourself, if you can. Bartenders and bouncers are not always there to help you, so just be wary.

I was nervous at an event and I drank to calm my nerves. I started getting pressured to drink by the guys there who saw me as some source of entertainment. I got plastered very quickly and tried to rest and lie down. Rather than take care of me or call someone to drive me home, my girl friend there left with her boyfriend and I was alone with only men. I was sexually assaulted by one guy who tried to corner me, force me to kiss him, and felt me up. People saw and recorded me but no one helped me. I called and messaged my so called best friend for help during the party but she ignored me all night. The next day, she messaged me and called me a slt because apparently my behaviour was that of a drunken slt. So I was sl*tshamed for being sexually assaulted. It still affects me to this day. I wish there had been someone there to look out for me. I’m always there for my friends to look out for them, but no one looked out for me or cared for me in my most vulnerable moment.

This is great AND can we please have a talk about how excessive alcohol consumption is bad for your health and wealth both short and long term?

This might be kind of culture specific but I’ve noticed that a lot of Americans, British and Australians (both men and women) think it’s “cute” or even “hysterically funny” to get drunk in public, brag about being hammered and be belligerent. As an American, I think this is especially embarrassing when they are tourists in foreign countries where this is not the norm.

And I just think it’s not mature, adult behavior to get so incapacitated you put yourself in danger or force other people to take care of you.

We all make mistakes and it is not my intention to victim blame or affirm abuse of someone who may have been drinking AND we need to prepare women for the reality of the world so we can minimize risk in such a dangerous world.

Things like this happen over and over and it’s awful and makes me thankful that I hate the taste of alcohol, coffee and weed are the only drugs for me lol

(I don’t think women should have to refrain from drinking at all just to be safe from disgusting scrotes, but I just really don’t like drinking culture in general, which encourages really shitty behaviour)
