From what I read, back when I was studying this stuff, they had to stop doing studies back in like the 80’s or 90’s because it was very clear that even very mild pornography was having an effect on men’s perceptions of women and acceptance of rape myths.

I used to go through nofap and all of them agreed their perception of women changed a lot. They said they objectified women more, only saw them as sex objects ect. No one who views women being as submissive as possible on demand anytime they want including getting off to women being beat and humiliated sees women as true equals. They may want gender equality because of course they cant get their porn if women are forced to be housewives.

This reminds me of that study from years ago where “scientists” concluded that the g-spot doesn’t exist by asking women whether they had one. I always thought we should do a similar study and just go around asking people whether they have a pancreas.

I’ve done a completely unscientific study on exactly one woman, and that’s how I know the g-spot exists. Similarly, I’m old enough that when I first started dating, porn was not as prolific as it is now. And there is most definitely a difference....why the eff wouldn’t they ask women for their opinions at the very least??

It’s right up there with all the old historic science about how bicycling harms women’s health and delivery doctors washing hands is not necessary to prevent maternal death and how POC don’t feel physical pain as acutely. The same science that thinks birth control has too many side effects tor men, and that pressures women to breastfeed while also inducing labor or performing non-emergency c-sections which themselves contraindicate successful breastfeeding.

Look at the serial kidnapper/rapist/killer David Parker Ray. His dad brought him BDSM magazines when he was a young boy. (Warning: what he did is extremely graphic so keep that in mind if you search). I’m sure there are other serial killers were affected by pornographic material at a young age.

Look how society is influenced and certain things are shown as desirable. Young women, small women, anal, etc. all show up in one place - porn. Men (who control and influence society) push these through social media, films, music, etc. to condition society into thinking it’s okay for XYZ. Easiest way to reach men is porn, which pretty much every man watches.

If they say porn doesn’t affect the brain, they can’t say violent movies, songs, and games etc. affect the brain. The brain is an amazing organ and can be influenced. Even think about therapy...that’s training the brain.

There was a study conducted decades ago about rape rates in US states that had legal pornography. Alaska was the first state to allow legal porn and the rape rate went up.

I like how they manage to turn it towards themselves (and their feelings) as if their marked, changed perception of women and their relationships & acceptance of rape myths (according to another commenter who discussed more details of studies) wasn't enough for them to feel upset by.

Imagine if decades ago we allowed children to have access to combustible tobacco products at 8 years old and then tried to study the effects of smoking. Researchers could try to find a control group from other countries. For example, in China pornography is illegal and heavily monitored. I’m sure men and women still cross the Great Firewall to use it but the rate of usage is waaaaaaay lower than in the west and I’m sure there are many men who have never used it. Then again it’s a different demographic group so they couldn’t really use them since there are a lot of other uncontrolled factors. Likewise there are plenty of asexuals who don’t watch pornography, but I’m not sure if that would throw things off too. That would probably be even more interesting since asexuals don’t experience sexual attraction or only do so under certain circumstances.

I don’t really know how they could successfully do an ethical study on porn usage and perception of women. Maybe, you could use PornHub data to suggest that the existence of violent porn increases the demand for violent porn. But, unfortunately, people seem to think sexuality is separate from their perception of women. It’s a whole mess.

My husband quit watching porn roughly a year ago, and while he's still often a dick, he does seem to actually notice I'm a human being and not a flesh light. He used to get so upset if I denied him a blowey... Right after having a c section. Now days he just goes and jacks off without getting overly upset and throwing a mantrum.

Porn negitively effects all involved. Men, who start treating women in their lives like garbage, women who feel like they have to compete with literal porn stars, and young people... Who inevitably get exposed to pornographic images earlier and earlier in life and never get a chance to understand what a healthy relationship looks like without porn.

The opening statement is this

"The relationship between pornography use and violence has been extensively researched. Numerous studies suggest that the violent content depicted in pornography may be a risk factor for relationship violence. " The study goes on to examine if there is specific types of pornography that could predict violent behavior of men and it's inconclusive. Clearly I could do a trawl in the criminality data or the psychology data, but I find it a mute point.

The violent behavior of men is a major problem and I strongly encourage, suggest, recommend, welcome any change, attempt, movement towards leaving such men and getting legal help in the form of divorce, restraining orders, and other mechanisms to stop violence of any kind. Presenting porn usage as the triggering factor is to let violent men 'give up' on addressing their violent behavior and to give excuses for that.
