The man was expelled for rape. He then reported that the woman raped him, since he was equally drunk, but his report was dismissed without being investigated.

Until recently, in many states, men couldn't even be raped, in legal terms, by a women because the laws required penetration to be a victim of rape. A few states still have this in their statutes. Women have ALL the right when it comes to child rearing and child care decisions. In order for a father to get custody of his children he must prove the mother isn't fit, where as a mother only has to prove she is fit regardless of how much better the children might be with their father.

It's part of modern society's one-way interpretation of sex.

Basically it works like this: Men always want to have sex with women, so being drunk doesn't affect anything, while women are the gatekeepers of sex so being drunk lowered their defenses against the predatorial man.

Another angle: Imagine you have a security guard at the front door of a building. A guy wants to get in, whether he's been drinking or not isn't changing his goal, he just wants to get in (and being drunk might even hurt his chances). If the guard is drunk, he might go and let anyone get in, which means the guard fucked up.

That's how sex is viewed now. Women are the guardians of sex, men are just walking erections. That's the exact psychology that leads to "a man who fucks a lot of girls is a stud, a girl who fucks a lot of guys is a whore."

Well, yeah. If you're gonna define sex as a one way predator-prey relationship, it means that a man successfully got a ton of women to agree to sex with him, but it means a women just let a bunch of guys have sex with her.

The funny thing is, even altering the variables doesn't help. If the guy is way more drunk than the girl, it means he was drunk and out of control. If the girl is way more drunk than the guy, it means the guy took advantage of a drunk girl.

This is actually a larger issue than people make it out to be. The criticism of the poster in question is that there are exactly two adults in this picture and exactly one are being held to standards of responsibility--which could ruin their entire lives over a stupid mistake they both made. The argument is that consent cannot be given while intoxicated so if intoxicated and consent is given the woman can't be held responsible for saying it was okay. But you as a man can have your entire life leveled into the ground even though you were intoxicated.

On one hand you have the University decrying the post but saying things like "lolz omg, it was 8 years ago, who cares!?" Which is kinda good, although they're not doing it in the right way.

On the other, their updated campaign (seen here) is a poster which says exactly the same thing as the last one.

It emphasises that consent cannot be given while intoxicated and sexual contact without consent (while intoxicated) is sexual assault. The only saving grace of this new campaign (which they'll hide behind) is that it's technically gender neutral. The implications of the old poster are still there.

It's the same damn campaign; women can't given consent while intoxicated (even if both are drunk and therefore neither can given consent) and any man who has sexual contact with a woman in that condition is a felon who has committed sexual assault.

My only response to this is that the CCU CARES coalition is just as fucking insane as they were 8 years ago.

Being drunk does not excuse you of your duty to follow the law (like drunk driving) but it can impair you beyond ability to consent (if you are insensate) therefore if you are drunk and the other person is drunk (and insensate) and you initiate sex you are committing rape, by the exact same standard if the man is drunk insensate and the woman initiates sex she is committing rape, it's the initiating and the insensate parts that matter.

Stuff like this is extremely sexist, not just against men, but against women. If both the man and the woman are drunk, but it's the man who's responsible and is a rapist, it's basically saying, "Men are strong and responsible enough to handle alcohol and make decisions well enough to be accountable when they're drunk. Women are weak and unable to make rational decisions if they've consumed alcohol, so we can't hold them accountable."

A lot of people seem to miss this nuance. There's this constant demand for women to be protected from men. Sometimes it's reasonable, but very frequently the ultimate message is "Women can't be expected to take care of themselves, so they need protection from the law."

The same goes for lots of the new consent laws that make all these exceptions. "Women must say yes, and it must be in XYZ circumstance or it doesn't count", as if women who aren't in an ideal situation totally lose the ability to think or act.

Have people always been so extremely lacking in the ability to think past the surface of an issue? Or is this a new thing?

Down votes incoming, but technically they raped each other, and I don't know if a single state that specifies gender. So the poster is patently false. Neither could consent. Charges could be pressed either or both ways and likely would be dismissed. Both could also be counted as rapes that went reported and dismissed though, skewing that statistic.

This is one of my biggest fears in life as a college student. I'm very often drunk as hell (I drink a lil too much but whatever) but I ALWAYS ask for verbal consent before hooking up with a girl. Scares me to hell knowing that this doesn't count because they're drunk.

It's different if a girl is absolutely hammered and says yes. This has happened but I back off because I know they're not in the right mindset.

Terrifies me to know that I can be charged with rape simply because a girl has had two drinks that night. Like shit, I had 12 but I'm not gonna go back on my word simply because I was drunk.

I was going to say that it depends who initiated the sex. If Jake asks Josie for the sex, then Jake would be raping her. But if Josie asks Jake for the sex, then Josie would be raping him. But, they're both drunk and shouldn't be held responsible for their actions. If Jake already knew Josie was drunk and willingly asked her because he knew she'd be stupid enough to so it while drunk, that's rape. But he's ALSO drunk, so he also (shouldn't) be held responsible for his actions. Same goes with vice versa. It's a very complicated issue if they're both drunk... Hmmm
