Picture the average person of each gender. Putting yourselves in the shoes of someone attracted to that gender: would you:

  1. Be friends with someone like that?
  2. Have sex with someone like that?
  3. Date someone like that?
  4. Want to marry someone like that?

Now, I recognize that your view of what constitutes the average person will vary greatly from country to country and based on your own life experienecs within the same country.

I live in America, so I will highlight some personally relevant statistics. In America:

  • The average body mass index (BMI) is 29.23, just shy of obese.
  • Only one in three adults meet the recommended amount of physical activity each week.
  • The average American adult plays more than 5 hours of video games per week
  • ~Half of Americans read four or fewer books per year.
  • The average 25-year-old in America does not have an Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree (some college or less is the highest level of education for the average American).
  • The average salary in the U.S. is $63,795 (according to SOFI), with a national employment rate of only ~60%
  • 65.8% of households live in homes they own.
  • 19.86% of adults are experiencing a mental illness
  • 30-50% (depending on the poll) of Americans consider themselves picky eaters
  • Around 15% of Americans report having no hobbies

After considering those statistics, how do you feel about the often quoted statistic that only the top 20% of men (and to some extent women) are considered for dating, relationships, sex, etc?
