A woman I dated for a few weeks decided to come over to my side of town for the evening. Our town is huge and we lived at opposite ends, like 50 minutes apart. Since we’d never gone out around there before, I assumed she didn’t know the area, so I took her to an old bowling alley that had been turned into a pretty cool dive. Lack of attention span. Went on a date with a girl who could not stop checking her Instagram every 5 seconds.

She was nice and friendly and all of that, she was engaged in our conversations, but every few seconds of downtime or quiet she would whip the phone out and check her comments under her pictures. She came across as a little self obsessed, likely addicted to online validation. She took multiple selfies during the date and couldn't even stop checking her phone when we went to see a movie.

I had a second date to see if anything changed but it didn't, so I decided there wasn't going to be a third.

My whole teenage years and my late young adult years i grew up thinking women were perfect and not a single thing they would do could cause me an ick, for me every woman was a potential partner, keep in mind this happened when i used to be lonely and unwanted, so that was the way i navigated the dating world, i wanted a relationship so bad that i would try to date any woman because i though she would make me happy and give me the love i needed so much, fast forwarding i changed and i managed to improve my dating life and give myself somewhat the luxury of a choice, i know what im going to say is a cliche topic at this point but the only thing that has ever given me an ick was the sexual past thing, i swear to God i never though there could be something that could make me lose attraction for a woman (in the context of relationships) but that was it.

What happened in one instance kissing them felt like kissing a brother. I went from ready and willing to fool around to feeling like I had just participated in something incestuous.

Or they were rude to the server and it just tanked any interest I had in them.

In one case somebody acted as though we were engaged when we'd only had one date.

There have been many others (usually behaviorally related - they were unkind to someone, they were negging, they were using social-experiment style tests on me instead of just talking to me) but sometimes it was visceral.

Both times I’ve gotten the ick it was to save me from dangerous people.

The first one, I never was attracted to him in the first place but he love bombed me when I was a bit vulnerable coming out of widowhood and I didn’t recognize it and gave him a chance . My gut said he was a very bad person but I didn’t trust it because I don’t have a lot of experience with men outside my long marriage. Pretty soon into it I felt viscerally revolted by him. Even the way he smelled made me physically recoil. Turns out he was a complete nut job who tried to extort me after I dumped him.

I just got it a few days ago for a guy I had been on one date with and met up with one other time. I found that I did not want to kiss him. Reflecting on it, he was trying to move at hyper speed. Like we’ve had one date and you’re talking about what we will be doing in a year. Saying you miss me. Said I should bring my kids with me to see him. Red MF flag. I feel like I dodged a bullet. I won’t make the mistake of not trusting my gut ever again.
