The funny thing about N-count is it's so easy to lie about. People act like it's some official number on a record somewhere, that you could figure it out if you researched it, or know if a person is lying or not but you just can't tell. Folks that brag about only wanting low n count people don't seem to realize that high and low n count people are impossible to factually identify, because it's an easy thing to lie about. You will never truly know a person's n count and due to childhood SA and drunken nights, a lot of people can't remember their own n counts. That number is really just a big question mark, for all of the time. No one will ever know for a fact what your personal n count is because it can't be substantiated with any kind of proof. Any way to prove or disprove your n count could be faked easily. At the end of the day, we're all just taking each other's word for it. In that sense of things we can do whatever we want and still play the part of a virgin to someone new and for all they'd know it's the truth...your n count is meaningless really and if you're keeping track you should stop because it's a highly fallible estimate at best. a person could be a raging slut for years and then decide it's time to act and play the part of a virgin and just like that, it never happened according to their new partners... real food for thought. If I had a magic wand, the one thing I think I would change is the whole pseudo-science evolutionary psychology instinct bullshit that runs rampant.

If you don’t want to date a high n woman because you have a fragile ego, just admit it. If she is sending clear signals that she isn’t looking to settle down and you are, so be it. There is a common misconception by many people, especially women in my opinion, which is that just because they've never/rarely had anyone directly ask them their n-count, then men don't really care about it and it's just incels from Reddit.

I think anyone sensible knows that most men do in fact care about a woman's sexual past, to different degrees. The vast majority of men interested in having monogamous relationships wouldn't wife up an ex-escort or ex-pornstar, for example. However, asking a woman's n-count directly is something very stupid and frowned upon, because it is a very crass way of learning about a woman's past.

It is, however, common for men to ask questions that are adjacent to that subject, like asking her for how long she's been single, what's she's been up to while single, what's her view on casual sex, if she feels like she's had her fun and wants to have a serious relationship now etc. Getting to know a woman's friends is also a way to learn about those things.

I think it's okay to have n-count preferences, but they usually represent something more important like one's views on sex/intimacy. It's better to date someone whose values and morals are close to yours. N-counts can be a sign of them, but overall talking to your partner/date and figuring out whether you have compatible views is more important.

I've ever been only with 1 partner and he's my husband. My personal take is that the older you get the harder n-count becomes to be something you care about and the less it says about a person no matter what it is.

I valued n-count a ton when I was <23. And for good reason. If you were in my dating range, 18-22, and you had fucked like 10+ dudes... you probably weren't and aren't a good LTR option. But I'll be 25 in a handful of months and really I just have bigger priorities at this point. Dating candidates blow as-is so if I find some diamond in the rough I'm not going to toss it out for having a chink in it (though, yes, I'd still prefer the smallest n-count possible in an absolute vacuum).

Ultimately though I think n-count is a perfectly fine criteria to disqualify people based upon. Whether it's too high or too low, and regardless of your own. I hate the idea that asymmetrical preferences indicate hypocrisy; there are just so, so many ways in which criteria for one gender is not sought after for the other. Tough.

At the same time I'd like to just make a general note that you should keep an open mind while dating. I think these days people will hear one thing they don't like and dip too often. Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of posts on whether body count should matter and stuff like that. I think the statistics on divorce and the pair bonding arguments have been made a million times, so I am going to offer a different perspective on why Body count certainly does matter. But I am going to do so from a male perspective.

There are multiple reasons why women with low notch counts are better. But this is the most important one. Sex is an opportunity for healthy secure attachment and novel intimacy. What do I mean by that? Let’s say your GF is a virgin or has a very low notch count. She is going to be self conscious and inexperienced (duh…). When you help her overcome her insecurities through something as intimate as sex, she will bond with you. She will always remember that experience because she was insecure and self conscious about her body and you made her feel secure and bonded with her through intimacy.

My wife was a virgin when I met her. She wanted to wait until marriage and a good woman is worth the wait so I agreed. We got married about 8 months ago and suffice it to say she is no longer a virgin :) When we had sex for the first time she was obviously shy and feeling self conscious. But I assured her that I thought she was beautiful and sexy and I made her feel comfortable and loved. It was ME who helped her overcome her self consciousness and insecurities. I also made her feel sexy and hot. We also learned about our likes and dislikes together. As a result, we bonded more that night. She always remembers that night fondly and it helped us connect more. She told me she felt closer to me and she felt more secure. She is confident now but she always tells me how much she liked the initial sessions because of how sweet and patient I was. Unlike certain politically correct idiots would like us to believe, sex is not just an exchange of bodily fluids and certainly not so for women. Sex is being very vulnerable. Sex is the most intimate thing you can do with your body.

And that is why women with low body counts are better for relationships and marriage. They present many opportunities to bond and can easily form healthy attachments.

But consider the opposite. Let’s say there's a woman with like 15 bodycount. Well, lets say you’re having sex and you tell her how beautiful she is. Well she’s not going to think that as special. Why? Well because every guy before you has said the same fucking thing. She has heard it 15 times from various guys. After the 5th or 6th time, she will already know that. She already overcame that insecurity with other men. When she remembers about her insecurities, it will be how Guy 1 or 2 or 3 were sweet and helped her with her self consciousness about her body. There’s nothing there to bond with you and even if there is, it won’t be as strong as it was with the previous guys. So, of course she will have trouble bonding with you. It's the same thing with dating/marrying single moms. Impregnating your wife and connecting and helping her throughout her pregnancy gives you an opportunity to bond. She is going to depend on you for both physical and emotional support when she is vulnerable (carrying a child). And so of course single moms are a bad bet because they don't give you an opportunity to do that (and also of course you’re never going to be their primary focus).

Also women release oxytocin when they orgasm. Oxytocin bonds women with their partner. My sister is a relationship and sex counsellor and she says that a lot of women nowadays have trouble cumming because their body just can’t orgasm because they are still emotionally attached to their ex/ previous FWB / hookup/ guy who got away. No orgasms means no bonding. Women with higher body counts are more likely to have this problem and their partners are the one who will pay the price.

And this is why Body count matters. Call it whatever you like - Pair bonding, normal bonding, emotional connection, healthy attachment, secure attachment, intimacy - whatever you like. The point is this is a key factor in couples coming closer to each other and loving each other more. It’s a bad bet to try and be in a relationship with someone who has already done this with other guys. Now, it is not the only bad thing about a high body count. There is other stuff as well but I feel like that deserves its own post and I will make a post on it another time. (I’m already tired)

Now you might say well how am I supposed to find a virgin bride in this day and age? Well you’re right. It isn't highly practical advice. But my advice would be to go for someone with a low notch count (0-4). Don’t marry or be in a relationship with someone who has more than that.

But what about men? Well IMO, men are much better in distinguishing the physical from the emotional. That is not to say that men with very high body counts are preferable for every woman. But men with higher body counts are still able to bond. Maybe it's because men don’t bond through oxytocin but through vasopressin. Ultimately, men and women are different and men are much better at bonding with a new mate than women.

But here’s the Ultimate advice: Never let someone shame you into thinking that you’re insecure for preferring a low notch count woman. Never, ever, ever let that sway you. Trust me. You will definitely be better off. People will call you insecure, toxic masculinity or jealous or whatever. Let them say whatever they want. Don't pay any attention to them. Also, don’t let beauty fool you. Beauty fades, personality doesn’t. So whatever happens, don’t go against your instincts.

Which is worse? A woman who has had casual sex with a few guys but who is otherwise low N, or a woman who is a serial monogamist who has only had sex in relationships and has never had casual sex or cheated, but who is high N?

If y’all want someone who is bad in the sack and unsure of what they even like, yeah I guess obsess over a low n-count. However, the dudes who are bent out of shape over this shit also have low n-counts and are objectively bad in the sack so it tracks they’d project.
