My FWB got his vasectomy a few years before meeting me. Like myself, he knew he never wanted kids.

I had tried to get my tunes tied at 18, and then again at 22, but was turned away each time.

We did have sex with one of those "ribbed for pleasure" condoms once, because I was interested in what condoms felt like. Didn't enjoy it, the friction felt off.

Pull out method, been using that for about 6 years. I used the Depo Provera shot for like 15 years before that, but then my doctor told me I should consider stopping as long term use is associated with bone density loss and osteoporosis. I tried a bunch others after that, but all others gave me horrible side effects. Nexplanon was supposed to be similar to Depo, but better because it’s an implant lasting 3 years, but it was awful, I basically just lightly bled for 1 year straight and had constant cramps, so I got it removed. Any pill with estrogen makes my boobs hurt and some give me terrible mood swings. All of the ones I tried had some side effect and I got sick of searching.

Eventually I told my husband I wasn’t going to use any anymore, I was ok with the risk of pregnancy by that point since I was financially stable and in a committed relationship, and he could wear condoms or pull out. He just stopped cumming in me. I’ve never been pregnant. He’s always had a hard time cumming from intercourse, so it’s not a difficult method for him.

Lost virginity later, and only been in one relationship, so my birth control most of my life has been celibacy. I tried birth control pills to manage bad periods when I was younger, and just got horrible bloating/pregnancy symptoms and migraines that were worse than the period pain. When I got into a relationship many years later, I got a non-hormonal IUD, which was a horrible experience and my uterus ejected it after a few days. Tried different pills, more side-effects, my skin and my mood were like I was on my period all the time. Condoms were the only non-terrible option, but not reliable enough for my liking, annoying in the moment, can reduce sensation for a partner, and just not something I want to be using for the rest of my life.

I only consider people who are serious about never having kids, so open to vasectomy only at this point. A man having done that is a good sign that he's actually serious about it. Tubal ligation also an option, but it's less effective, more invasive, more expensive, and harder to get a doctor to do it. Personally, I just don't care about sex enough for it to be worth the trouble of birth control and stress every time my period is a few days late, so I'm unwilling to go under the knife for something I don't even care that much about doing. I'm not completely asexual but just a sex-indifferent demi, I guess. I like it, but don't need it, and there are plenty of other things to do besides PIV, besides. I wouldn't hesitate to abort, but it's not something I want to have to worry about. So if someone with a p wants to put it in my v in the future, in the short term I'm open to condoms only, and long-term I'd want him to get a vasectomy.

Tubal ligation it’s just a much more invasive surgery with a higher recovery time and it’s all so much harder to reverse. It’s kind of just worse in every way. If you’re young it’s also hard to talk a doctor into it.

I use an IUD, Mirena. I thought about trying to get my tubes tied as I have no desire to have children but I like that this takes away my period and is almost as effective. I’ve been on birth control since I was around 13 (I had weird fucking periods) so I don’t really notice any hormonal changes. I actually just got a new IUD and it was quite an ordeal, it was very painful I had to have my cervix is dilated to the point of pregnancy so that they could rip out the old one. Hurt like a motherfucker. And when I got the first one put in I passed out from the pain.

Copper iud. It makes my period last 9-11 days and gives me symptoms of anemia (haven't gotten tested), but I decided it's the best option for me.

I'm currently on Annovera (a yearly ring) however I'm switching to an IUD next week as Annovera has made me bleed for the past 2.5 months.

There is no reason for my husband to get a vasectomy as I HAVE to be on a hormonal BC to keep my Meniere's disease in check.

Condoms. I was advised against using pills by my doctor and I don't want to risk with getting an IUD. We might want to have kids in the future, but even if we were sure that we didn't, vasectomy and tubal ligation aren't accessible in Russia if you're younger than 35 or don't have 2 kids.

Plus, there are side-effects to both of the surgeries. There's some correlation between Alzheimer's disease and vasectomy, although there are contradictive results and there is a low risk to get chronic pain in the area. Tubal ligation rises the chances to have to get hysterectomy in 5 years after the surgery.

vasectomies are great when you're done having kids. there are new techniques that make it more easily reversible but most procedures and most doctors do it with it not being reversible in mind.

as for me, I used to be on the pill for sex unrelated issues but I had to switch pills and the new one killed my libido entirely. I was an asexual sex repulsed person for close to a year. then I started dating my bf and was still sex repulsed and I didn't want to get into a relationship like that and I stopped taking it.

im very very neurotic about pregnancy because I would never have an abortion so rn I'm using condoms and not having sex on fertile days.

I'm terrified of iuds so that's my best option rn.

With my companion, we tried condoms, pill, and a IUD (for few years now). None of them are perfect. You may just choose the inconvenience you bother the less. Condoms can be annoying, pill have many possible side effects (some are serious), IUD is a (very) painful intervention and is not supported by all women.

We never considered a permanent solution, simply because we both want children. I can't imagine to ask somebody to let go of his or her fertility. This have to be a very personal decision.

He was always ready to keep condoms as our main method, despite the fact he prefers to remove it. I was the one intolerant to latex, and also the one who didn't want to take hormonal treatment anymore. He was supportive each time, interested to talk about it, and trying his best to share the burden of contraception. He always insisted to pay for it, since I was the one "paying" with my own body, my confort or even my health. In our european country, health care is very cheap when it's not free, so it was essentially symbolic. It felt very careful and supportive anyway.

He knows I would have chosen to keep the baby if we have had an unplanned pregnancy. He agreed with me on that point because we would have been able to welcome a little one even if our careers or house were not perfecly ready to.

I'm not on any birth control right now, but I was on the mini pill for about six years. Before that I used condoms and briefly had a copper IUD but it tried to kill me so I had it removed. When we're done having kids I'll probably have my tubes tied unless my husband volunteers to have a vasectomy. I don't really want to bring it up if he doesn't.

For much of our relationship until we were done having kids, he pulled out. I know, I know, but it worked 100% for us and was preferable to condoms for him and hormonal bc for me.

After the third kid, I got a copper IUD. Insertion was mildly uncomfortable, but no other issues, works great.

My obgyn used to ask when my husband would get a vasectomy because I've already suffered a lot with pregnancy/labor and now it's his turn, lol. Maybe someday, we'll see.

Unfortunately the NHS won't let me get my tubes tied yet so I'm currently using condoms. Neither my partner nor I mind them and tbh for a few different reasons I'd want to use them even if they weren't a form of birth control. But I simply am not okay with messing with my body or moods just to have sex when an alternative option is right there and I'd rather be celibate than use hormones.

condomns: high occurance of snapping inside, which fucking HURTS. Think a rubber band going off inside
nuva ring, problems: dry vagina
IUD, problems: no libido, pain from feeling it, extreme pain from having it inserted (was 3 days in fetal position), acnee, depression, weight gain
depo shot, problems: extreme weight gain (think 2kg/month), depression, suicidal
Vasectomy of partner, extra benefit: more fun swallowing

I had the implant for a long time. Worked incredible the first time around and when I got the new implant because the last had expired my life went to shit- well emotionally. I just felt like super depressed and also extreme rage and i was just like why? Why. It felt like I was walking through fog for a long time. I went back to my gyno and actually had to get bloodwork done and found out some other issues it was causing. I got it taken out and now am on birth control pills which are good for the most part. Cons are definitely that I get a period now (didn’t on the implant) and that I PMS so week before period I just cry a lot, over anything.

My partner understands and is very loving. He tells me over and over just tell him to get a vasectomy since we don’t want children but he’s just young and don’t want him to do that for me, or just yet. Never know what will happen. Love him tho lol

Vasectomy is a sterilization method for men not technically a birth control. Although it is reversible so I suppose some folks view it as an option as birth control. But generally speaking only somewhat older folks who have had kids or have decided they definitely don’t want them are going to consider a vasectomy as an actual option. My husband is going to get one after baby #2 but that’s because we are older, done with kids after this next one, and I don’t want to have to use birth control anymore.

Prior to having kids our birth control method was me on the pill. I have a lot of knowledge about the various different female birth control methods and their side effects given I’m a pharmaceutical and medical device personal injury lawyer. A lot of them are scary. since I’ve been on the pill since I was a teenager without any side effects it just made to continue with it

Condoms in fertile periods, pull-out the rest of the time. Hasn't failed us yet, i have a very predictable cycle and we always use condoms the days before, during and after ovulation. I am open to trying hormonal BC but my partner doesnt want me to suffer eventual side effects.

I’ve used the pill and got knocked up on it, not to mention the weight gain and other side effects. I’ve used the Nuva Ring, which was okay. The IUD was awesome for a decade but it got loose and meandered into my uterus and had to be removed by a very painful process that no amount of local anesthetic could help. Mr. Paisley and I don’t use anything and just decided to let the chips fall where they may, but we got together in our 40s so pregnancy was against the odds by that point.

I use the pill. ALL birth control sucks major ass and has unpleasant side effects, but the pill happens to have some very pleasant side effects for me too, like fewer and less painful periods and no more acne. Condoms are great for STI protection, but get annoying when you are monogamous. Heard too many horror stories for IUDs. My partner and I also haven’t ruled out kids yet, so vasectomy isn’t a consideration at this point. But it is a great option for couples who are done having kids or child free. Much easier than tubal litigation and removes the risks of hormonal birth control for women over 35.

Comdoms are only useful for preventing stds in my opinion. They are too unreliable for birth control. Breaks, leaks, getting precum on while putting it on. There isn't a time i ever felt completely at ease with just a condom.

A lot of women experience side effects on contraception. I get migraines so cant take any pill with Estrogen in it. All progestogen only contraception hugely effected my mental health and libido, recently I made the decision to go through the very invasive procedure of getting the copper coil which at the moment seems to be working okay with my body. If whatever reason my body starts not liking this one, then the only option I will have left is the pull out method along side tracking when I'm ovulating so I can avoid those days. I'm also allergic to condoms with having really sensitive skin.

With not 100% ruling out more children, neither me of my husband want to go through with the permanent option but when we do get to that point my husband has said he will get a vasectomy as up to that point I've had to be 100% responsible for contraception with the fact there are no other options for me except condoms, pull out or vasectomy

Had the copper IUD, made my periods too painful so I got it removed. Now I’m using condoms. When married id like my husband to have a vasectomy if he were comfortable with it. I’d even do this before we have all our children if he were able to freeze his sperm. This way when we want to get pregnant I can just be artificially inseminated.

Husband got a vasectomy in his early 20s while we were married since neither of us want children. I told him if we both miraculously changed our minds somehow, we're adopting because I'm not going through pregnancy.

If it wasn't so invasive, I'd just remove my uterus. It'd be nice to donate it to someone who wants one. All it's doing now is taking up space and giving me periods, lol.

I almost tried them all because I have von willebrand and they would stop being effective to stop my periods after a while

Tubal ligation will never help me for that blood issue so it won't be a choice for me. I'd need to have my whole uterus removed

I don’t want kids ever, currently using regular birth control, due to past traumas going in to get an IUD has been a no go up until recently, cause they told me that they will put me under if needed. Personally I want to get rid of everything but my ovaries in the future because I don’t want kids, I hate my period and birth control fucks with my mental health, my husband getting a vasectomy would really only get rid of one problem.

I think if you can’t have the IUD, know you don’t want kids and aren’t in a long term relationship a tubal can be empowering cause you just can’t always trust the other person, this would go for men getting a vasectomy as well, that way no one is getting pregnant by anyone. If you aren’t with a long term partner then you can’t expect that every guy you meet is going to have a vasectomy, and things like stealthing exist. So if you know for sure, and want to be in control of it then I say a tubal can be great.

For a lot of women an IUD is just fine though
