I’m the higher earner but I’m not doing it for new dicks. I’m doing it because I like having money and being able to pay my bills, go out to dinner occasionally, take vacations, and maybe a splurge or two. I can and have supported both of us on my salary, but my husband works and brings home his share of the bills too. That’s all I ask for, is both of us doing our part to give us a decent life.

If you don’t want to marry, that’s fine. Women are better off without men who think that they are whores by no virtue other than of having a vagina anyway.

When I was a housecleaner, I had client families in which one spouse or the other lost a job or was at home on leave for some reason. In my experience, when the wife wasn't working, the family would cut back on my services, as she would pick up the slack, but if the husband were home, I would be needed just as much as ever.

Am I reading this study wrong? If husband is unemployed, the divorce probability is only 3.3%, and when the wife is unemployed, the divorce probability is only slightly lower at 2.5%? This is supposed be significant and groundbreaking?

Also some interesting bit from the study: "Involuntary nonemployment may negatively affect marriages more strongly than voluntary nonemployment, by affecting outcomes like partners’ mental health. It is not possible to evaluate this perspective with the current data, because voluntary specialization by men in unpaid labor is rare: in 2012, only about one-fifth of stay-at-home fathers were home primarily to care for the family (Livingston 2014)."

If a person can't keep a job due to depression or something, I'm not at all surprised they are being divorced. I know a guy who can't keep a job due to his depression and his ex gave him many chances, tried to help him, but he would never seek professional help or try to get better so she eventually gave up on him. That's probably what happens in a lot of these cases.

I don't know about you but for me and my bf of 9 years, the main thing is enjoying everything life has to offer together, like travelling, good food, fun events, etc. Sex is important but not as much as that. We both have money so no issues with that, but I have a bit more than him so I pay for stuff more often. We are both having fun so who cares.

Edit: If I did in fact read the percentages right, does this increase in divorces show they happened because of unemployment, or are more men simply allowed to exist without a job these days? In the past, they would NOT be able to be jobless because nobody would provide for them nor marry them (which obviously then means they can't divorce to add to the stats).

It is one of many reasons why I have said multiple times that men are dumb and do not understand optics or incentives.

It's interesting that it's men's full-time work, not their earnings, that is relevant. Maybe the wives just want him out of the house sometimes. Or dudes that lose their jobs and lay around the house drinking alcohol are really unpleasant to be around.

I was haggling with a tenant the other day on one of the buildings I own and I had the following epiphany. Why don't we abolish marriage and replace it with a type of lease agreement? Hear me out!

A lease is defined as: "a contractual arrangement calling for the user (referred to as the lessee) to pay the owner (the lessor) for use of an asset."

Instead of signing a permanent Marriage contract with women where a man is basically fucked if and when the woman decides to breach the contract why do we not create an agreement that has a time limit on it complete with specified rules on the consequences for the breach of contract?

For example: A woman wants monetary compensation for being in a relationship with a man, they would then have to sign an agreement in where he has access to sex with her and she has access to his income the way a traditional married couple has right now - with the exception that this contract terminates after a specified period of time for which the couple would need to renew it if they are interested in prolonging the relationship.

This new "marriage" contract can be signed for weeks, months, or years.

OP you mentioned that it doesn't make any sense of a man to be perpetually tied down to a boring aging woman who is only sticking around for a man's income. Well how about if the marriage had a time limit?

And what if the conditions of the marriage were negotiable such as it's duration, sex, and the sort of economic stipend a woman would be entitled to during the marriage and NOT afterward? Abolish alimony and abolish child support. Since all relationships are transactional they should also be negotiable.

Women want men in their traditional provider protector role. While they themselves get to skip through the field like Bambi.

I think something very animalistic triggers anxiety in a woman's mind when a man is laying around 'too much.'

When a man is doing something that woman feels free. She knows what he's doing what he's thinking and what he's concentrating on so it's like that's when her leisure Time kicks in. She doesn't have to be trying to figure out what he's thinking. A guy walking around in public whistling, signals to a woman that he's not a threat and that he's distracted and probably in a decent mood. It's disarming.

A man standing in one place for too long makes women anxious if they don't know what he's doing or what he's thinking. And then of course they start drawing conclusions because women can't stand not knowing what a guy is thinking. Of course, because she's anxious, she will only conclude bad things. That little rational voice in her head that's saying "hey, he's not doing anything wrong leave him alone" is drowned out by the anxious screams that he's "up to something".

More and more often I see younger males and females walking around with big headphones on. This seems a bit strange to me because I need my ears to be aware of what's going on around me. I mean I love music and all but...

It seems to me they're trying to avoid other people or send a signal that they're off in their own world so therefore they're not a threat. By wearing those headsets you're vulnerable. Perhaps it is signalling that vulnerability that lowers threat response in other people. That's why I think some older men whistle.

I heard a quote from John cleese the other day that put the finger on exactly what I've been thinking lately but just didn't have the exact right words to say it quickly and succinctly without having to get into elaborate explanations.

He said something along the lines of: those that can't control their emotions seek to control the behaviour of others.

That is so true of women. When a woman gets nervous she starts to exert control. And let's face it women are more nervous than men the stats are in on this. Women are higher in neuroticism. This is why they concerned themselves so much with etiquette and behaviorism. And it's also why so many of them are into psychology. They desperately need and want to know what other people are thinking at all times. So many women on anti-anxiety and anti depression medications. I believe the number is approaching 30% of American women. This means 70% of them are going un-medicated.

If only the rest of us could adjust our behavior can make them feel safer and more comfortable then that would solve all the world's problems. /S big time /S
