In light of my other comment being automod-ed, I can reemphasize this point here.

Saying “Don’t lift for women because the women who’ll like you for that are just shallow and low qualityyy!” is such nonsensical bullshit.

(It’d be a different argument entirely if you were arguing that it just doesn’t work at attracting women at all, but that’s not what I’m highlighting here. For the record, I think the argument that it doesn’t do anything is also erroneous)

Like oh yeah totally shallow. I’m sure there aren’t women who’d love to be loving wives but would also love their husband with big arms and shoulders. I’m sure there aren’t girls in relationships who’d swoon if their boyfriend was a bit heavier and stronger. I’m sure there aren’t girls who’d rather not sleep around, and also like their men athletic.

Being attracted to fit, attractive people is common and not at all limited to some subsection of low quality people

Edit: this being said, lifting just for women if you have no enjoyment of lifting is something you’re not likely to stick to; there definitely needs to be more than one goal, preferably ones where the goalpost is static and unmovable

Why are people trying to undermine the importance of looks when it comes to dating and whatnot. I’ve seen a ton of people on reddit mentioning how they dated someone because of their personality only and I call BS on that. Sure you need to have a good personality but if you’re a 0-1/10 on a good day, you’re not going to have any people be attracted to you because of how you look. Even with the good personality. So people it’s time to start admitting that looks matter in a bigger way than we want to admit on.

Men have it good as far as looks go. We have so many other ways we can be attractive. Not only that but for women looks really are subjective. If she is attracted to you then she will invent that you are attractive in her mind.

I have two great examples of this in my life. One fwb I had for a year and my wife. In both cases we ran into ex boyfriends of theirs and in both cases they were short goofy looking guys. Both times the women said to me, "he didn't use to be so ugly!"

I had the opportunity to discuss it with both of them. They both found the men attractive at the time they were dating and until that moment we bumped into them they were still attractive in their minds. But at that point they faced the actual man not what they invented in their heads and so they subjectively created a new physical attraction level for those men.

Now I'm not saying be a scruffy unkempt fat or skinny guy. Definitely get your looks in order, even if only for your own self confidence. But with confidence, approaching women, and being fun to be around women can find you attractive and if they find you attractive they will invent in their heads that you are physically attractive. I call it the feminine reality or subjective reality. She feels like you are attractive

It's easier for women to look fit. They generally store more fat in their legs, hips and butt and less fat on their stomach compared to men, that and a larger percentage of fat being visceral overcompensates for having an overall larger body fat %.

the reason looks matter so much more now than they used to is because of how many options women get from the dating apps and social media. When you have hundreds or even thousands of options to pick from, its logistically impossible to get to know that many guys. so women filter those options by the only thing they can make a judgement on in less than a second, looks. the obvious problem here is that it leaves so many women chasing after the same few guys, that's why you see women complaining that men are only after hookups, unwilling to commit, etc.. Really i think the only way to fix the problem would be if women reflected on the fact they are going after the same guys and instead started filtering their options by choosing to get to know guys in their league. Not that I think it would ever happen, but it would fix dating for both men and women
