I remember in the delivery room the nurse wrote some stuff on the whiteboard to help us feel comfortable and know what to expect, and she wrote a checklist for mom and dad. And the mom.side was hella long, I can't remember what all.was on it, probably like getting dilated to a certain degree and deciding on pain meds by a certain time or whatever, and then on the dad's side she drew a big fat zero and I busted out laughing at the disparity and then she drew a happy face on it and said dad is a cheerleader. I think she knew what she was doing.

I didn’t even want my husband in the room with me while I was in labor. At least he seemed to understand and didn’t throw a mantrum over it. The pain was so intense that the last thing I wanted was to see his face. Men don’t know the pain of menstruation, childbirth, pregnancy, breastfeeding (my nipples bled for days while I tried to accomplish this feat), all they gotta do is coom and then whine the rest of their lives about having to pay to raise their children.

I wish I hadn’t had my ex in the delivery room. He was not helpful at all, kept leaving to smoke and ate all my snacks I’d packed in my bag for after the birth. He didn’t even think to tell me well done or whatever after I had spent hours in pain with only gas and air to bring his child into the world. Also wouldn’t let anyone take a picture of me and our new baby together without him, nor did he take any himself. I still get really angry about it even years later.

The man doesn’t need to be there, you only need your midwives/doctors. They just get in the way and make it about them. When our child asked him about the day she was born he told her mommy was grumpy all day and that he cut the cord and held her while I cleaned up. He actually tried to paint me in a negative light to the child I gave birth to in the story of how she was born.

Unpopular opinion, but I’m not entirely sure men belong in the delivery room. More often than not, they only make the birth even more complicated for the mom. I don’t like how now it’s expected for the dad to be present for "emotional support" when childbirth has always been, until fairly recently, a women’s affair.

Honestly, I think his celebrity status could be coloring his opinion of the labor & delivery process. He’s probably the type who is accustomed to being waited on hand and foot, especially in the hospital environment.

He is probably the type of man that would complain if the nurses don’t drop everything to bring him a cup of tea instead of caring for their laboring patients.

If a man is allowed into the delivery room, it is only by staying in the good graces of the laboring woman. He can be 100% supportive and helpful to her, or the nurses will firmly tell him to GTFO, even if he’s a celebrity.

Ugh, it was better back when men would wait outside the delivery room to have the baby brought to them clean and ready. At least the men understood there wasn‘t anything they could do. Now, men have inserted themselves so far into the birthing process. Its fine, if the mother wants it, but if I was only allowed one person in the birthing suite with me I‘d choose my mom, someone who has been through it before.
