Roe is likely going to be overturned. (For those who are not from the US, Roe vs. Wade was a landmark supreme court ruling that ensured that states could not excessively restrict abortion access) There are trigger laws in place for certain states to excessively restrict abortion when this is overturned.

Make no mistake, this is not about religion or morality. This is not about the personhood of the unborn. Most people are aware that a fetus is not a fully developed, aware, thinking, feeling being. This is a direct attack on women. Specifically, on low income women ,because the upper class can afford to fly anywhere for healthcare. Republican lawmaker’s mistresses will still get abortions, believe me. This is not about religion, because if it were, it would be about choice. That you have the religious liberty to choose to not have an abortion. If this were about religion, then why is the subject of abortion not mentioned in the Bible? 🤔

It’s about a few things. Some men resent that women grant sexual access to other men and want them to be punished for it. Some women resent other women for being sexually desirable and want them to be punished for it. A lot of people think that all sex (including assault, rape and incest) is solely the woman’s responsibility. That women are uncontrollable jezebels that tempt unsuspecting men into committing sex crimes. Therefore, they need to be punished for it. Some people feel that casual sex is completely degenerate ,but again, it’s the woman’s sole responsibility. So they need to be punished for it. Then, of course, the big corporations that fund right wing media love anti-choice propaganda. The 1% lives off of the labor and consumption of the working poor, after all.

So what now? What do we do after Roe? Once Roe is overturned, it will go back to the states. If you live in a red state GUARD YOUR WOMB! You should be doing this anyway! Birth control isn’t 100% effective. Even if one birth control product worked for you, that doesn’t mean another will. A lot of women get pregnant when switching birth control. Have funds and a plan in place to travel out of state should you become pregnant. If you become pregnant, you do not need to tell the man who impregnated you. I do not know why that is the cultural norm. In some states, he can take legal action against you. Also, I do not know if there is a way for your residing state to prosecute you for an abortion preformed out of state. If there are any lawyers reading this, please weigh in.

Lastly, being anti-choice is a huge red flag. Not just for men in the dating world, but all people. There’s no two ways about it. If you support legislation that forces women to endure an unwanted pregnancy, you either don’t have empathy or don’t see women as full people. This goes for anti-choice women as well. There are absolutely women who have internalized misogyny to the point that they don’t see other women/outsider women as full people.
