Yes, unfortunately it does define modern dating because people choose a political affinity based upon how they see themselves. It’s been this way for a very long time. It’s not new.

I grew up in backwoods Appalachia a long time ago and absolutely could not wait to escape so that I could meet/date/fuck quality men who didn’t think of me entirely as a conquest/possession. My own northern mother was an outlier. She was grilled on her political affiliation when she arrived there to marry my father in 1962. My ancient grandfather did the grilling. Women were expected to be a positive reflection upon their men & agree with their sexist & blatantly racist bullshit. She basically signed up to become part of the tribe by agreeing to become a Republican with my father dictating her voting choices from that day forward. She didn’t give a shit about politics btw but she was an economic captive & was immediately impregnated with me, then 3 other kids in short order.

I just couldn’t choke all of THAT down. I watched, I listened and made my plan to leave when my father started trying to choose my husband (a nice man that there’s no way I’d ever be attracted to) & told me I didn’t need to go to college…that was for my younger brothers. My first plane ride was to the closest international city (DC) to move to/live & finish college. I’d already done a year at the local state university. I transferred to UMD when I was 17. I couldn’t stay there though because the father of the kids I was live-in nannying for wanted to fuck me. His wife was constantly crying on my shoulder that he didn’t want to fuck her anymore. It was an utterly untenable situation.

This is part of why I’ll always be “blue pilled”. Life experience of growing up in one of the most retrograde areas of one of the most gerrymandered states in the US. Experience with the men of that time/place. Experience with my own family where the women are STILL treated as second class citizens.

FWIW, most of the objections I have with conservatism involve ideas that are poisonous to girls and women. That's survival instinct, not programming.

Liberal thinking is in a lot of ways toxic to males, but imagine where women would be if they'd taken the helpless attitude that's so common, at least to the men on PPD.

Any man looking for women is going to have difficulty if he characterizes her beliefs as "shithole culture", but it definitely isn't the only thing that can cause him problems.

I’d say that’s correct for the most part for many of us. Political compatibility matters a ton and it’s a very heavy subject when weighing someone’s character and compatible values.

I didn’t want to touch a conservative man while single, let along date one, regardless of how attractive they were. I talked to a couple but the looks or even humor were usually not enough to override the political difference, as I’m very far to the left. I guess I was also a bit shocked at how many conservative guys were trying to talk to me, as a black woman, but it kept happening 😭 It bothered me less when they were moderates but for me those guys were basically conservatives too. I had one roommate I do regret not smashing lol Our physical/sexual tension I guess was through the roof but he was more fiscally conservative and indicated he was on the fence about being pro life. Nope nope. In one conversation, he told me he thought being too far in either direction is a bad thing but then minutes later, after I said I’m looking for my “commie bae,” he said, “I could be a communist.” Sir, don’t play games with me - you are definitely not communist lollol He was very cute, but gave off frat, fuck boy vibes even though he had an engineering degree. I was in my mostly “goody two shoes” era at that time, so I wasn’t ever going to immediately jump at having sex with him anyway but I was branching out when it comes to hooking up with men. (Also, we lived together) I mean

Anyway yeah, he wasn’t ugly imo. I don’t think you should assume you’re ugly, and I think your story is a good reminder for men that soooo many factors shape success in dating and hookup culture. And how well you fit into any social or political setting is definitely part of it. I personally think I would have a harder time in a small town, conservative area too, so I’d say it goes both ways. Imagine a black/mixed looking girl who’s a socialist activist in podunk Trump country trying to find a husband. Ha, I think not. I mean, it’s not impossible, I grew up with friends like that who were not white in predominantly white conservative areas and they had no issues dating, but they were also not outspoken leftists. (And often adopted, interestingly) So definitely get in where you fit in for sure.

I also agree with something else you said - as a leftist, I can literally sometimes tell when someone is conservative before they tell. It’s a combination of behavioral cues, personality traits, and shallow, unreliable stereotypes. Never a guarantee, of course, just probability.

But yeah, I couldn’t go conservative. My bf is leftist-light and I wish he was more “down for the cause” but that’s still better than like 40-50% of the guys I was attracting before.

I mean, okay, I’m not perfect. I did sext with a Trumper once. We actually had a long phone conversation because I wanted to get to the bottom of why I kept attracting conservatives. He basically said it was because he thought I was beautiful and didn’t give off alternative vibes - no tats, piercings outside of my ears, no non-natural hair colors or styles, I seemed traditional based on how I dress, and I didn’t have my pronouns in my profile. So they’re reading us too. I’m an amazing sexter and one of those “dominant personality but likes to be sexually dominated” gals, and he liked that. He did tell me he’s extremely patient and want to eat me out as long as it takes to make me orgasm, which ya know, most of us love to hear. He had cute dogs too. I thought about it.

A few things to consider:

Most people are not that political. Right or Left, they do have political ideas, but they are not so strict about their partners' political views.
People do consider politics of partners if they affect them directly, but usually this is after a period of dating and consideration for serious relationships.
People prefer to date people with similar values, political or religious or secular.

It's obviously very important to you, but I wouldn't say it's definitive at all. Political identities are weakening generally for a start and an increasing amount of people aren't feeling attached to a particular party or political belief. Additionally, it's just very rarely someone's top trait in a partner unless they're an extremist who can't tolerate other views. I think you're confusing politics with other things like moral views, personality traits or even physical features, which is generally stereotyping. And no, people with different views to you have not all been "indoctrinated" and need to be "deprogrammed". I understand you might not like what they have to say but it's okay to disagree. People get both left and right political messages throughout their lives generally, and I have no idea why you think left-wing men aren't indoctrinated.

I have had the same issue. Women want a masculine man who physically is the masculine ideal, while wanting a dude who is a flaming progressive.

I have had discussions with this about some of these women trying to point out the hypocrasy of wanting a guy like me who is tall, works out, is motivated for success- but want me to have the left leaning politically views of men who usally are not successful.

It is the liberal cult and illogical bullshit that is feminism. feminists want the benefits of traditional dating without them having to be traditional women or have the responsibilities that traditional women had. They want men who are like these traditional men, without having us expect anything of them.

I quit dating these women. It is just not worth the hassle. Eventually arguing with feminists will always get to the point of arguing their feelings that are not subject to the laws of logical consistency or compatibility with reality. They FEEL attraction towards masculine men and FEEL upset that these men also don't share their political and social beliefs. You cannot argue logic with FEELings.

This was never as much of a factor in dating or friendships as it is today…as someone that went to high school and college in the 90’s, people’s perspectives have changed…if this was a big issue with someone back in the 90’s, it was more with the hyperreligious that had strict moral and cultural guidelines (otherwise they saw dating you as a sure path to hell and damnation)…of course that is still the case…

What’s changed is the moral self righteousness of people on the left…I use to be on the left..no longer…basically, people on the left now believe that if you don’t agree with them you are an instrument of oppression and have to have your reputation destroyed and have to be shunned from society…god forbid that you agree with the statement “boys have a penis, girls have a vagina”…you are instantly seen as a reincarnation of Hitler himself….it’s sad but dogmatic beliefs that don’t have a self correction mechanism based on empiricism are bound to lead to extremism
