So... female employee went to a rally to "support women," but failed to support her own female boss by respecting her authority (and her other female employees who did not go) by formally requesting a day off in advance.

Maybe she should have communicated with her boss AHEAD of time instead of assuming her boss supported the same things she did... in the same manner she did... just because she was also a woman. "Women's Rights" is a broad term and not exactly the same for every woman. I am sure for her female supervisor women's rights involves not being disrespected by an employee of the same sex as you. I was a member of management at a bank. Not coming in for your shift is a mistake, and not giving sufficient notification adds to that mistake. Arguing that you had a good reason for doing both without communication before hand just seals the deal. Leads me to believe you would be willing to do it again at anytime over whatever you deemed important. If people would communicate their desire to miss work and the reason for it, yes you might get told no, but you also might be given permission, but either way you won't lose your job over it.

Taking a leave of absence for any job without approval is grounds for dismissal. Frankly if I was a boss and ANYONE didn't show up to work without a call or previously notifying me, first offense is a verbal reprimand, second is paper work and third is firing them, I have a pattern of missconduct and paper work.... you can fuck right off

Additionally in some states they can just fucking fire you. They don't need a reason

I always take the time to inform all my employees before protests like these that their absence will not be excused for any cause.
