The fact that this got into the news so fast leads me to believe that the effort to shut down creepshots began with someone from Toronto (i know i may be wrong, but it is suspicious) and that the reporter who wrote this story may know the people or persons doing the doxxing.

This is my feedback to the admins, i doubt they'll read it, but the will if they give a shit about the site.

You know what this is about, where before this internal conflict might have only impacted fringe groups like SRS, mensrights, subredditdrama etc… todays events have put the issue on the front page. Right now at nearly 2000 net upvotes, everyone will see the post made by potato_in_my_anus about how violentacrez, a controversial yet prominent member of reddit has been doxxed. We have no further information about who or what group did it, save that adrien chen, a writer for gawker was involved. In that same post pictures of attempts made by chen to contact a few people for personal info regarding VA were also posted, but they all shot him down. From what I see it’s doubtful that chen had the knowledge to proceed with attaining VA’s personal info on his own. So who helped him? It’s like lenin said - not I am the walrus- but: “who benefits from it”, Qui bono. SRS has had strong negative feelings towards VA since a long time. Without judging if this was right or not, it is a fact. When I then read, further down the post by Potato, that the top moderator of r/creepshots, which is a subreddit that admittedly has questionable content from a moral standpoint, but was nonetheless allowed by the admins, has been doxxed, the lines could not be more clearer. The main focus of SRS’s latest campaign was to get creepshots removed from reddit. This has only been going on for a few weeks, while creepshots is much older than that. Is anyone that dense to believe that SRS would have nothing to do with the doxxing of the top moderator? That this just happened to coincide with their latest crusade? Potato_in_my_anus implicated SRS in this post as well. This is not a coincidence, if it were linc the sink from prison break would crash through the wall and deliver a beatdown - with his signature right hook sent by telegram in 1871- on potato_in_my_anus for suggesting that it is not plausible that this is a coincidence. Of course SRS has attempted to wash their e-hands clean and distance themselves from the situation, claiming that they had nothing to do with it and even going as far as to state that it is a sad state of affairs when someone gets doxxed. This should not be seen as anything else than a PR stunt, a way for them to cover their hides. There is an – if seen in modern context admittedly shamefully sexist - text by roman writer senecca. Translated it roughly says this: “a woman loves or hates, there is no third choice. A weeping woman is a lie. Her eyes shed two types of tears at the same time: one for pity, the other for the ruse. No one in their right mind would claim something to be so shamelessly sexist to be true and furthermore it would not apply in this case, as roughly 50% of SRS userbase is male. Nevertheless when I first read it, after initially laughing about how ridiculous the text was, I found a deeper meaning probably not intended by senecca himself: I found it an apt description of the modus operandi of any extreme militant group. They are uncompromising, unrelenting, everything is love or hate, black or white, they will use whatever is at their disposal to achieve their goals. Make no mistake: this is their doing.

So what is next? While reddit prides itself on being a liberal, libertarian site where everyone has an equal claim to the truth and where only a few things are explicitly disallowed, this is one of the rules: no doxxing. While standard procedure is to ban the user, it is fairly obvious that the one day old account is an Alt. SRS has always been allowed to exist because it claims to represent fringe groups (of which many belonging to said groups are malcontent with the actions made by SRS under the guise of standing up for them, but that is not the point at issue) and maybe that’s why they have been given extra leniency regarding downvote brigading, thread derailing and other particularly nasty things (like telling someone who was suicidal but didn’t “fit” into their group to off himself). But now, under the guise of promoting fringe groups’ rights, some of the members engaged in strictly banned, immoral and illegal practices to achieve their goals, namely doxxing the head mod of r/creepshots and threatening to make his personal life public if he would not meet their demands. It is said that game of trolls was banned doxxing as well, but I doubt that they added blackmail to the list. The fact that r/creepshots is morally questionable does not change anything. Illegal behavior can only be justified if one violates a law to ensure that another, more important law is not broken. Taking pictures in public places, even without consent, is not illegal. This only changes if one is in a private place where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy. So the doxxing actions cannot be justified.

As I see it, there are a couple of possibilities going forward. The first one is that the admins do nothing and do the same in every case. This will lead to reddit becoming 4chan with a better interface. Everyone will just do whatever, be unkind to other people because there are no consequences to their actions. The second is that the admins do nothing in this case, but will react in other cases. This might be good for some, but the majority of users will question why the rules have not been applied consistently and reddit will risk alienate them. The third one is to take action, and ban the subreddit using the precedent that has been set with the banning of all of game of trolls, not because they might have all participated in the forbidden behaviour, but because the subreddit was conducive to those kinds of activities. And as I have argued above, the SRS users have shown that they will use any means to mold the site into what fits in their narrow view of what is appropriate. This is what will happen: the more traction SRS gains, the more reddit will lose its original identity as an open platform site and I would say that allowing illegal behavior from them is enabling them to move the site to this endpoint.

This is just the view of one user out of a couple of million, but make no mistake, the active users, the ones that drive this site with their content and comments, the vocal part of reddit has serious issues with what is transpiring right now and they have had issues with SRS for a long time. One only needs to scan sample threads in which they are involved to see this. The choice on how to proceed is yours, I only hope that you consider my opinion, because I do love it here, even with all the reposts. I love r/minecraft, r/atheism, r/wtf, r/masseffect hell I’ll admit I like r/mylittlepony and many more, so much that I had to get RES to manage all of my subscriptions. What I don’t like is a small group, that claims to represent the disenfranchised (with evidence to the contrary, leaving questions about their true motives) taking the site hostage through forbidden behavior.

Why can't ignatiusloyola just start to blab about things that will lead his newfound fan club the wrong way? I mean, I don't know him personally, but I'd try and cover my tracks or at least lead the doxxers down the wrong track.

What madness...I've only been on reddit for a few months, and hearing about people doing this to each other is ridiculous. I thought reddit was supposed to be better than this.

Doxxing is only meant for the lulz. This isn't lulz. This is wrong altogether, man. Wrong altogether.
