This is either an age thing, an American thing or a "shitty people" thing. Among my age group, (20-ish) in Europe, it seems very normal to go Dutch on dates. Men might decide to pay for drinks or a dinner (if they have a job, which isn't taken for granted) but there is no general expectancy for men to pay, or I haven't witnessed it.

On the other hand, I've seen some women say they expect men to pay because "old school is best" (funny that they seem to think the old school is best only when it benefits them, ha) on blogs or other internet spaces, but those women don't really make themselves popular with such entitled attitudes, which makes me think it's mostly women who wouldn't make for great partners anyway. I would also suspect they tend to be a bit older than 20-25.

Nothing wrong with confronting a woman you're dating about this tendency (in a friendly, open-minded way) and gauge her reaction.

2) the two groups most likely to do so are tradcon gender values and dark triad traits. So when you're online dating, ask if she's ok splitting the bill with you before you even walk out the door, or find out if she volunteers at the soup kitchen or something. Fucking vet, my guys.

I think it's more like "eh, I'm not immediately drawn to this guy, but whatever, I'll give him one date, at the very worst I'll have a decent dinner and never see him again." I've never gone a date solely for a free meal but it's been a motivating factor. Like if I'm scrolling through my messages on a dating app deciding which person to go out with or debating whether I feel like a second date with someone the guy offering dinner has an advantage. Not enough of an advantage to get me to go out with him if I think he's hideous and/or awful, but definitely an advantage.

In my current relationship, it's always bee, 50/50. He got the movie tickets? I get the popcorn. We go out to eat? I pay my half. If he offers to pay 100%, I pay in full for the next.

It wasn't always like this, though. Back when I was in college and barely scraping by, it was nice to get dolled up and go out on a date. I would l choose someplace cheap, but usually the guy would offer some place more expensive. I was always upfront, "Hey, I don't have the money to pay for a twenty dollar dish on top of the 3 dollar soda." I'm not sure if they did it to impress me, but they would offer to pay. I got a nice conversation and 3 days worth of food, meaning I could save more money aside to pay for rent or utilities.

It helped me from having to choose between unhealthy and cheap meals for the week or paying my bills.

A woman who goes on a date with a guy is at least vaguely open to the remote possibility that something could happen. It's not like she's married and supplementing her family's income by saving the cost of her meal.

She's at least giving the guy a tiny shot even if she's going in closed-minded and knowing his shot is remote. It's up to the guy to filter his options and read people well and pick his best shot at a lay from among his date opportunities. The same way it's up to the girl not to let herself get strung along and used for sex when she's boyfriend hunting.

I've never had it happen, but if a woman insisted on a fancy dinner and me paying for it on a first date, I'd next her, no matter how hot she was.

Why not.... I mean it seems a pretty interesting sort of way for a woman to to work out if her first impressions of men are correct? Also if a woman seems stuck in never choosing guys who end up being keepers, maybe loosening up her dating criteria and trying to get to know a wider range of guys is a good idea. So long as she's going to pay enough attention to him during the date that if he's capable of turning her lack of interest around he has a fair chance of doing so, she's held up her end of the date. The vast majority of dates do not turn into relationships and that's fair enough. Also seriously... how are guys with a less obvious sort of attraction potential expected to get anywhere with dating if no-one ever bothers to give them an hour of her time and a closer look? if you're arguing against women occasionally going on dates with guys they're just "meh" about because well dates can be fun even when you're "meh" about the guy, you're arguing for the situation of those particular guys to go from bad to truly dire.
Going on a date puts a woman in danger, full stop. So does walking home from the train station at night. So does refusing to give a guy her number. So does giving a guy her number. We take our chances.
Don't buy a woman more $$ value of food than you think her social company while eating a meal is worth. Take her to a place where you can spend that sum of money and it fit in just fine with the norms of that place.

Why do women do this? Have you ever known a woman who admittedly did this?
Yea I have known more than one, they do it for fun and a free meal? that is obvious.
Does this put women in danger? (fake interest in a guy)
Weve established all dating is a danger for women.
How should men watch out or defend themselves against this type of behavior?
By having a brain.
Would you consider this a form of fraud?
Legally? no but personally sure I guess.

Purely anecdotal, but I was in line at Tacofino once and I overheard two young women having a conversation behind me. One of them said she was broke, and had met a guy from Tinder the night before just to get a free meal. I was pretty shocked to hear a real life example.

That’s pretty fucked up. When I’m at a bar/club I generally don’t let people buy me drinks unless I’m interested in them sexually because I feel too guilty. And I wouldn’t let someone buy me dinner unless they absolutely insisted (I’m a broke college student lmao) or I knew that I would pay next time!

BUT - I think from talking to my friends this is just a sexist relic that will hopefully go away with the increased financial power of women. They feel that if a guy doesn’t pay, he doesn’t actually value her or like her very much.

Some women do this because they are self centered, greedy and overall nasty.
This would put the woman in danger only if a man was to touch/ have sex with her against her will. It would be the man’s fault, not the woman’s (regardless of how bitchy she was).
Don’t go to expensive restaurants on the first date, and order food to split. Let her pay half, you pay half.
Its not fraud. Is the woman selling you her love and sex in exchange for food? No. So she owes you nothing. Is it a shitty thing to do? Should such people be scorned and mocked? For sure. But the man offered willingly, and buying food on a date is a gift, not an exchange. People who take advantage of gifts are pieces of shit.

I once went for dinner with a guy who, went the bill came, we were discussing what we should do after. He says "I think......" puts hishand on the bill "We should go..." pulls the bill towards him "...to your place". Last part of sentence pointedly as he takes out his wallet lmfao.

What an idiot. I already knew I wanted to sleep with him before dinner. Why he felt he had to act so creepy and coercive, who knows? He was tall, attractive, somewhat famous and successful. Men are dumb.
