I have a hard time believing this actually happened. I think it's a story made up for the advice column, or someone just screwing around.

[–]SnowyGamer 31 points32 points33 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It sounds like she went to an orgy without realizing it. Didn't mention any other chicks in the room, but what party has 25 guys and 1 girl?

[–]slapahoe3000 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

"There was porn on" lol weird party

[–]PeteMullersKeyboard 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"lol guys like why is everyone totally naked haha wtf guess i'll have some sex lol"

[–]IHazMagics 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

To be honest, I've been to a party like that before. Though there was about 10 people there, male and female.

It was weird and I left soon after.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's a name for a party like that. It's orgy.

[–]IHazMagics 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

See, no one ever said that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They maybe didn't call it that, but that's what they were after.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a bad ratio. I don't like that ratio.

[–]2bananasforbreakfast 63 points64 points65 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While the story is obviously complete bogus, the response is not.

[–]Perk_i 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well OBVIOUSLY she was screwing around...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

it was probably written by one of you guys

[–]luxury_banana -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes because these kinds of things never happen in real life and the stories are all made up by MRAs (and redpillers, even cases from before either of them existed of course) along with all of the highly televised rape hoaxes and so on. UVA thing recently? MRAs were clearly behind that, if not redpillers.

You are an intelligent and reasonable person.

[+]Webonics -23 points-22 points-21 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is essentially a Maury level thread, and it's the top voted mens rights post.

Pretty much sums up this entire movement from my perspective.

[–]DIXIE__REKT 39 points40 points41 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

she should go through with the pregnancy and then call up Maury Povich, go on the show with all 25 guys and see which one the dad is.

[–]uabeng 35 points36 points37 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Plot twist - You all are NOT the father.

[–]DIXIE__REKT 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]Wargame4life 70 points71 points72 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

so i should force my will or judgement against a consenting woman is that what she is claiming?

[–]ThePedanticCynic 53 points54 points55 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You should have no opinion, ever, except the one a woman tells you to have; but only in the moment you are meant to have an opinion. Never hold an opinion for longer than a few seconds, or a feminist will castrate you.

She judged men for not stopping her, then judged the one who tried to. You literally can never win with a feminist.

[–]PeteMullersKeyboard 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men are supposed to be like subatomic particles, don't you know. Only relevant when a woman looks at us/asks us for advice (not to be taken)...and only then are we allowed to have an opinion. Of course, we're only allowed to have her opinion.

Note, this is not an exaggeration. Almost every woman I've ever been with has degenerated to this type of behavior in a relationship.

[–]iopq 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I train my girlfriend. I ask her "Should I open the window?" then she responds with something like "No, it's fine". Then I actually open the window because it's stuffy and she's wrong.

[–]TheGDBatman 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You literally can never win with a feminist

To a feminist, men are Schrodinger's human - neither human nor inhuman until s/he makes a judgement.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think it's cute that you think a feminist would ever consider a man human.

[–]TheGDBatman 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm sure it happens. You know, when he mindlessly agrees with whatever said feminist is saying at the time. Then he's a good person. One misstep, though...

[–]ThePedanticCynic 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's a good person in the same way farmers consider obedient cows good cattle. You're still going to get eaten, in the end.

[–]DallasTruther 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She judged men for not stopping her, then judged the one who tried to.

Where did that happen? The article doesn't mention someone trying to stop her, nor judgment of him.

[–]rbrockway 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, the columnist Coleen is telling the woman that men know better than she does how she should act.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's not really wrong there.

[–]Jazzeki 210 points211 points212 points 11 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

it makes me angry that nobody is considering how the guys felt the next day...

can you imagine being 18th in line and yet still know you are not going to be the last she had that night?

maybe she should have put a stop to it herself?

but those 2 ideas would require you to belive 1. that men have feelings and 2. that women are adults.

clearly foreign concepts to this adviceperson.

[–]kinyutaka 68 points69 points70 points 11 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

By number 25, they're thinking, okay. This is gonna be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway, but I'm invested in this now.

He just needed a slumpbuster. And what better way to bust it up than with the life force of 24 other guys helping him along the way?

[–]LOOK_AT_MY_POT 30 points31 points32 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I do.

[–]LOOK_AT_MY_POT 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it would be more gay to get my dick covered in the jizz of 24 other guys. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm wondering what kind of party this is. What kind of sub-culture.. I've never even been to a party where there was porn on. And even if it was, and some slut said she wanted to fuck everyone, I'm pretty sure most of my male friends would have backed out.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]bigrjsuto 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]lipglosschaos 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And yet they still waited in line...

[–]brzcory 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Try being the guy in a corner who has a GF, with all the other guys egging you on to cheat on your girl because "Everyone else is doing it!"

But peer pressure doesn't count for men.

[–]ExpendableOne 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Seriously, if you're just guy # something out of 25, you're honestly being objectified just as much as she is if not even more so. No one would give a shit about how those guys might feel or how having sex with that woman in that context might have affected them emotionally or psychologically. They are just faceless dicks, who are also assumed to be in the wrong, or malevolent, because they are men.

[–]Marilolli 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men are also adults and guy #18 and even #24 could have backed out of the situation if they wanted. I feel bad for everyone in this situation because they all made a very bad decision that could ruin their lives and I'm a compassionate person that doesn't wish ill on people I don't know. Men should not be able to have sex without consequences just as women shouldn't. Safe sex people! Don't be dumb. If you're going to do something like this plan it right.

I think it was more about the fact that the guys probably felt some regret if not moreso for running their dick through a semen cocktail with 20+ ingredients.

[–]Jazzeki 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i see you find context hard.

here's a hint: i'm mocking the stupidity of the response.

Ok you got some fucked up views on sex buddy. You expect sudden monogamy and love at an orgy?

funny you should react in this way to a satirical representation of the view you just defended...

if someone wanna be 18th in line that's none of my buisness. but he's not getting sympathy from me the day after if he suddenly regrets it.

[–]theskepticalidealist 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually people are. It's just not in this girl's letter, and the woman is replying to the girl, not all the people at the party.

"Coleen" does act like the men should have made the decisions for her, and decided that she shouldn't be able to decide to do that. Just picture a few guys trying to stop her. Their idea is men should respect a womens decision, but then protect her from her own decisions if he thinks he knows better.

[–]I_HaveAHat 32 points33 points34 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

"Ma'am, since you are a women incapable of making decisions for yourself, and I am a man, I must put a stop to this right now"

Funny how that's so much more sexist than a bunch of guys running train on a drunk chick at a party

[–]Gnometard 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You'd be a misogynist for telling her that fucking 25 guys is probably not a good idea. It's her body, her choice. Until she regrets her decision.

[–]AFabledHero 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't have to be stopping her, it could mean stopping everyone else.

[–]I_HaveAHat 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wouldn't it be easier to stop one women rather than stopping 24 horny drunk guys? Though it would be even easier if this women just made her own decisions

[–]Spam-Monkey 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe because women are so used to telling other people how to live their lives they expect the same from us....

[–]Gnometard 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Right? None of the guys were drunk, obviously. They just got her drunk to do this. If she's not at fault due to drunk, neither are any of the guys.

[–]InBaggingArea 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Woman rapes 25 guys at party outrage.

[–]mimetic-polyalloy 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Colleen makes this girl out to be a fucking victim! Blaming the men for "using"her and "not trying to stop it" as if she was an unwilling participant. Holy fuck that's dispicable.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Men should step in and stop women from making bad decisions, because women are stupid."

3rd wave feminism infantilizes women.

[–]williamwilbercork -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Literally the ONLY line in that article that even slightly blames the men.

Lol this place has such a victim complex, you're like radfems but male

[–]Windex007 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In THIS case I agree that men aren't being victimized.

I do understand the confusion on this point though. I'm just a dumb white boy trying to do right by as many people as I can, and this shit is confusing. Wouldn't saying "You shouldn't fuck 25 dudes at a party" be slut shaming? How do I know when it's ok to tell women when and with whom to have sex? Up until now I thought it was inappropriate to even make suggestions.

[–]acrippledblood[S] 162 points163 points164 points 11 years ago (36 children) | Copy Link

Bonus: Comments talking about how the "filthy pig men" should've known better.

[–]MSgtGunny 217 points218 points219 points 11 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

That last comment saying that because they were able to get erect, it means they weren't really drunk. IMO that's about equally stupid as that senator saying if it's legitimate rape, the body won't get pregnant.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 73 points74 points75 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It astounds me how stupid feminists are. When i get drunk i just have to try harder to 'finish'. That's about it.

That and i'm more likely to sleep with an ugly girl. The two may be related.

[–]LaGrrrande 34 points35 points36 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If they were legitimately drunk, alcohol has ways to shut that whole erection thing down.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

By "legitimately" what do you mean?

Black-out/pass-out?

Super buzzed?

[–]LaGrrrande 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a reference to this dick-cheeseburger.

If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

[–]theskepticalidealist 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

It is also a slap in the face to all the female rape victims that feel shame because their body made their vagina get wet, or even orgasm.

[–]Jazzeki 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

so basicly if this woman dfidn't want to raise a child alone she wouldn't have been able to become pregnant i guess?

[–]MasterZapple 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Actually, I have heard this from feminists. If a man is drunk enough for their "judgment to be impaired" they can't get erect. So that's like a safety net for them: if the man was too drunk, they wouldn't even have been able to have sex.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I know exactly what you mean. I had an argument with a woman about this once. She claimed a woman can't rape a man, even if he's stone drunk and she's sober, because he won't be able to get aroused. I tried to tell her she was talking bullshit, but she kept on raising her voice instead of coming up with a useful counterargument. To be honest, I'd be surprised if this woman has even seen a dick in the last 15 years.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. I think a man, who's had to live with his dick every day of his life, knows what it's capable of more than some woman.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You had a boner during a discussion about rape?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What a load of crap. If anything, booze helps me get erect.

[–]Gnometard 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Mylon 29 points30 points31 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So if a man is drunk and emotionally unstable and he's trying to drown his worries by buying 25 women drinks, should those women know better and take him home? Or is taking advantage of his wallet okay?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree with you to 100% about not generalizing women, but i dont think im generalizing. What im saying, or atleast what im trying to say, is that some women do have that world view. Not all women, not all feminists, but some women.

Yea, they think it is perfectly ok to "slut shame" men. How dare you call a woman a filthy slut! Men are free to have as much sex as they want, women have the same right! PS: those men are filthy pigs!

A woman can have as much sex as they want, unless a feminist doesn't agree with the number of partners.

[–]theskepticalidealist 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

A woman can have as much sex as they want, unless a feminist doesn't agree with the number of partners.

Some of them... With the rest it more seems to depend more on happy the woman feels afterwards, and if it's negative then it's the men's fault. So this girl regretted it, therefore the men should have stopped her from 'allowing' men to "use" and 'degrade' her because obviously she must have low self esteem to have wanted to do that, and that they should know this, and that they should overrule a womans decisions even if they don't know her and force her to stop.

If the woman was instead being "slut shamed" for the gangbang and perfectly happy about doing what she did, she'd be more likely told that she has nothing to be ashamed about, that she should be free to explore her sexuality and that she isn't degrading herself by doing so etc.

You are not holding this woman accountable for her part in her predicament She needs a dose of reality. Hopefully, she won't just pick a random guy and name him father. Sticking your uncovered dick into a woman you don't even know just because she let everybody have a turn too is basically using her as a sperm receptacle. Even with genders reversed this would make sense to me. You think any of these guys had any interest other than getting their dicks wet?

I think you're getting outraged over nothing. This isn't sexist, she called out the girl as was deserved by pointing out how those men clearly didn't care about the possible consequences to their actions, which is why it's on her to not spread her legs for 25 random dudes.

[–]christophwallura 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

How can one person use the other if both agreed to have casual sex?

You think any of these guys had any interest other than getting their dicks wet?

Do you think she had sex with these 25 guys because she was interested in their personality?

[–]DAE_FAP 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Okay, and how does this differ form HER interest?

It doesn't. Which is exactly why she has nobody to blame but herself.

The guys used her, and she used the guys. This wasn't an intimate romantic encounter, it was raw sex with strangers.

[–]nolehusker -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They could both be using each other. One does not include or exclude the other. They are independent of each other.

[–]christophwallura 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Do you honestly think that it was used like this in the article?

That it theoretically could had been used that way, or in general could be used that way, is irrelevant if it's most certainly not meant that way.

They are independent of each other.

If people talk about one person using another person I take it as a description of an unfair relationship, as that's what people usually mean.

You can talk about "using someone" in a neutral and descriptive way without casting moral judgement (for example children use their parents for survival and emotional support) or implying an unfair relationship but that's certainly not how it's used in this article or in everyday conversations.

[–]theskepticalidealist 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

"YOU" Here she is addressing the girl, hence "blaming" the girl as well. When two (or more) people have sex, it is both their "fault", and "Colleen" is not denying this.

What she is saying is that the men "used" her, as if the only reason she allowed the men to damage her this way is because she has low self esteem, not because she wanted to or enjoyed it. This isn't overtly feminist since it is quite "slut shamey". This is more traditionalist, saying she shouldn't be promiscuous. The overlap between the two is that in either case it is seen as that men should have been taking care of her and deciding she shouldn't do what she wants.

[+]spursmad -8 points-7 points-6 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[–]theskepticalidealist 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

lol how do you interpret that as "white knighting"?

You can say they "used" her just as you could say she "used" them. The difference is if one of those guys regretted it and asked for advice they'd get told it was all their responsibility (and probably disgusting people), rather than it being suggested that it was someone's elses fault they regret their decision.

[+]spursmad -6 points-5 points-4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This is like... the sort of shit we can get mad about when they stop locking up men for 20 years for things they give women 5 months of community service for. Lets focus on the big picture. We need to gain ground on acceptance, then we can nitpick over the small bullshit.

[–]zazhx 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Presumably Coleen is working from a more socially conservative set of values. That's not inherently wrong, but it explains the difference in perspective between you and her.

Coleen believes that the woman in question did not want to have to sex with all these men and that sex (particularly in this context) is a degrading act that men do to women.

This explains why she was dissatisfied with both the woman (performing such an impure act) and the men (for doing such a thing to the woman without questioning the morality).

The men used her.

Actually they did, because that's all she presented herself as. Someone who has sex with people no-strings-attached. So the men who only wanted to have sex that night got their wish.

She didn't present herself as someone looking for a relationship, or someone who deserved more than just a quick fuck. People will only see you for how you present yourself to them.

She got used, but only because she told everyone she had nothing more to offer them.

I feel bad for her to be honest. I wish she could have been taught better to have more respect for herself.

[–]p3ngwin 23 points24 points25 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The men used her.

actually if we're going to reference the word "used" then they EACH "used" each other, hence it was an agreed transaction.

Else it's as silly as saying "The supermarket USED me just as a cash cow by letting me enter into an agreement to buy their products."

She got used, but only because she told everyone she had nothing more to offer them.

Then the men accepted the offer, hence they both "used" each other.

No single person benefited more than the other without agreement, it was mutual. They "used" each other.

but she's the only one regretting it, so she's retarded.

No... she chose to get that drunk. Nobody drugged her, therefore all the actions she took after getting however wasted she was are on her. It's not a man's responsibility to breathalyze every woman he sleeps with.

She made a choice, and that choice was to drink. If it was too much, the consequences of that are nobody's responsibility but her's.

But that's a moot point: if she remembers sleeping with every guy at the party she wasn't too drunk to consent.

[–]Davethe3rd 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

True, and I'm not saying that she is entirely without fault here, but if she's obviously out of it, like she can't even stand up, then you don't have sex with her.

Buzzed or slightly drunk is fine. Blackout drunk is rape.

Then again, her goal, her mission that night was to fuck 25 guys. Considering that she knows exactly how many guys she fucked, she just had enough to get loose.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Blackout drunk is rape.

Disagree, but probably not broadly so. I've dated more than one woman whose behavior didn't change at all when she got blackout drunk. Black out doesn't mean the same as pass out. There's a distinction there i think is important.

Just because a woman doesn't remember the night doesn't mean she wasn't up and active. One girl i dated tended to speak in a Russian accent when she blacked out. Couldn't tell the difference.

I'm not sure where we disagree, as that's essentially what i said. Unless you mean you disagree with the person i disagreed with?

If a person is unable to say yes or no, then it is obviously rape if you go ahead and fuck them, if a person tells you yes I want to have sex, then has sex with you willingly, that is not rape, regardless of intoxication.

Totally agreed. If she's capable of saying yes (even if it's a bit slurred, but not obviously so), it's not your responsibility to decline her. If you want to, that's fine. Everyone has their threshold, and i'm certainly not going to judge anyone who has one below mine.

But if you're shouting at me to fuck you in an accent that isn't yours, i'm probably going to fuck you. I don't care if you remember the night.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I meant I disagree on the same points as you, sorry should have worded it better

[–]Davethe3rd -4 points-3 points-2 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Okay.

Then, IF YOU CAN TELL she's out of it, then the gentlemanly thing to do is to say no.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What guidelines would you suggest men use to protect themselves?

Personally, i'd recommend filming all sexual encounters to prove innocence; just in case. But, of course, feminists are attempting to ban this.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]LOOK_AT_MY_POT 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then you raped her. It's obvious. You are responsible for your actions, she is not. That is equality. That is what feminism is fighting for.

You don't know if someone else is blackout drunk. They still function.

I've been blackout drunk once, had conversations while blacked out. Don't remember a single thing about it.

How are you to determine whether someone is drunk, or black out drunk? You don't know. They don't know.

It's not rape. Unless you say no while blacked out, but you won't remember whether they said yes or no. Which is why you don't drink until you black out.

After I blacked out the first time, it was the last time I ever drank. I never want to put myself in the position where I'm walking around and doing things that I won't ever remember. That is incredibly scary to me.

But if it doesn't scare other people enough to stop being idiots, then they have to live with their blackout decisions. Not our problem. They can't say they were raped, because they don't even know. And they chose to drink until they blacked out.

Being blacked out doesn't mean you're passed out in a pool of vomit.

[–]Zosimasie 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Blackout drunk is rape.

The fuck it is! Just because a person doesn't remember the night doesn't mean they didn't choose to do the stuff they did.

depending on how much she had to drink, some of those encounters may not have been consensual

What people need to realize, is that men get drunk to.

"Nonconsensual sex because intoxication"=/=man raping a woman unless:

  • The man wasn't drunk, and was forcing alcohol down the womans throat

  • The man wasn't drunk, and was forcing drugs on the woman

  • The man wasn't drunk, and was forcing himself on the woman

Seriously why does nobody care if the man is drunk? Guys get wasted, guys make mistakes to.

A shitfaced guy, having sex with a shitfaced girl IS NOT RAPE. Sex is not 100% a man's responsibility. Sex is not something men *do, to women.* Both parties are equally responsible unless either one is forcing something (drugs, booze, themselves) on the other.

And pressure, is not the same as forcing. I do not condone pressuring anyone to do anything, but that is where "choose your friends well" comes into play.

Have you been to a wild party with bad friends? There is pressure EVERYWHERE. Guys are pressuring girls to get wasted, girls are pressuring guys to get wasted, girls are pressuring girls to get wasted, guys are pressuring guys to get wasted.

The pressure is not coming from "the patriarchy" it is coming from young idiots, being young idiots, both men and women.

[–]niggelprease 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wish you could have more respect for her. Who are you to decide that "looking for a relationship" inherently has a higher value than getting "just a quick fuck"? The woman who only wanted to have sex that night got her wish. She didn't get used any more than she used them. They used each other for sex.

We talk a lot in this sub about women not being afforded agency or responsibility for their actions. You are part of that problem.

[–]Castigale -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

he woman who only wanted to have sex that night got her wish.

Did she? She should be held responsible sure, and obviously she has agency, but that has little to do with making good choices. The fact that she came to regret it tells me she didn't make a good decision.

Who are you to decide that "looking for a relationship" inherently has a higher value than getting "just a quick fuck"?

Whether or a not a "quick fuck" is more important than a relationship? Seriously? Chick got pregnant by a dude she doesn't know, and you're asking how I know whether or not it would have been better for her to seek a relationship instead of a quick fuck. Well obviously sleeping with 25 random guys is the superior strategy here, glad its working out so well for her.

Sooooo, She chooses to go to a party. She chooses to get drunk. She chooses to have sex with lots of men ... and your response is 'The men used you'.

That was never insinuated. It merely acknowledges that it might have been a good idea if someone acknowledged that it was a good idea. The rest is reasonable advice that should be given to anyone after a sexual encounter.

Regardless, it was never suggested that the young woman was not responsible. Rather, it states that it would have been nice if someone acknowledged that it was a bad idea.

Also, if someone is exploited, it is the exploiter's fault - end of story.

I also find it funny that you blame a woman for what happened to her and demand that she take responsibility for her actions becuase of her poor judgement, but state that a man is necessarily exploited (through being forced to pay child support) if he engages in a action that puts him at risk. The double standard baffles me.

This is what is getting me. I can only imagine how drunk you'd have to be to be even the fourth or fifth person to have sex with a girl in a row, let alone anything past ten. Like, yeah it's feasible that the first guy may have been the villainous "Oh man that girls so drunk I can totally get some," but to go in after several other men those guys probably weren't thinking about how they got some the next day, but about how gross it was that they were that drunk.

[–]a10t2 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Am I the only one considering the probability that you could just show up to a party and everyone there would be down for a 26-way gang bang? You don't go to a housewarming or a St. Paddy's Day party, say "Oh neat, there's porn on, let's act it out!" and then get everyone else to go along with it. This was planned.

[–]Inksplotter 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I thought that too, along with no one wearing a condom. And all 25 had vaginal sex with her? (That would take generous added lubrication, and if someone had lube on hand, they'd have condoms.)

This story isn't planned, it's fake. People submit fake stories to advice columns all the time.

[–]FigNinja 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

After the first one, there's plenty of slippage, I'm sure. I just can't imagine, as a woman, having vaginal sex 25 times in a night. That just sounds painful. I also can't imagine all 25 guys being comfortable having sex in those circumstances let alone being willing to do that bareback.

[–]EvilPundit 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You can write to the columnist with your problems. This was mine:

Dear Colleen, I just read an article about a woman who chose to have sex with 25 men at a party, and got pregnant. The advice column somehow ended up blaming the men, when it was all her decision. Now I'm upset because the columnist obviously has a bias against men. Whet should I do?

[–]Arby01 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]nobody2000 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Another example of the mentality that's applauded by feminists that manages to undermine women as well.

By blaming the men, it's like saying "you poor thing, even though you were of sound mind, and no one forced you into this, you're incapable of making decisions for yourself."

Does anyone remember Senator McCarthy and how he demonized everyone for being a communist, pointing fingers at everyone in hollywood, destroying careers, and all that? How long do we have to wait before feminists finally point their finger at the wrong person?

It also makes me angry that not one guy at the party tried to put a stop to it and considered how you were going to feel the next day.

First let me get this straight. If I agree with someones personal decisions i'm using, controlling, forcing, etc. However if I force someone to make the decisions I think are "good", and make them do what I think they should then that makes me a good guy.

I'm not responsible for someone elses personal decisions, if you can't handle your liquor, don't drink because if drinking causes someone to make negative life choices that's one possible sign of alcoholism. Abusing alcohol has never been a "get out of responsibility free" card.

Second I may not have even met them before so I've no idea what their tolerance is, or if this is something they may have wanted to do. Crazy thing here: Some girls do want to have sex in fact plenty do, some even want to have drunk group sex, and it's not for me to say "no" just because some may not. I have no right to tell some girl how to live her life just because another girl doesn't want to take personal responsibility for her own choices.

Edit: I'll also note "not one guy at the party".

So no other girl could have put a stop to this? Not one could say "stop" or if people didn't listen call the police? When comments like this are made it's not just sexism towards men, it is against women as well. It's literally making the assumption women can't be responsible or take control. It's incredibly harmful to both genders.

i had a talk with a friend today about a girl he slept with in HS. he said he didn't really like her, but she was crazy about him, and she was a virgin so he figured taking her virginity was worth it. he slept with her once then dumped her.

so for years, he tells me, she was furious at him for using him. just recently (this is maybe 10 years later) they ran into each other and she told him what a jerk he was for doing that.

now, let's take a step back. this was a man and a woman, roughly the same age, who had consensual sex with each other. the girl and society view the man as a jerk for using her. is that really what happened? she wanted to have sex and she did.

i see substantially no difference between my friend's story and this article. the woman had consensual sex with a bunch of men, and of course the advise columnist places the blame on the men, as if somehow they are culpable for having consensual sex with a woman.

this is why men have it so hard when falsely accused of rape or sexual assault. even when society knows the sex is consensual, the man is still somewhat guilty of...something. when the accusation is rape, there is no question about it.

[–]amynhb 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

If he didn't lie to her about his intentions then she was definitely overreacting. But if he lied to her telling her he loved her, had sex with her then dumped her, that was a shitbag move and she had every right to be pissed at him (so long as she wasn't stalking / otherwise being crazy about it). Lying to someone and screwing them over right after taking their virginity is a dick move, no matter the gender.

When it comes to this story, the woman's responsible for sleeping with the 25 men, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't take responsibility for their own actions either. Letting 25 guys fuck you without a condom is about as dumb as putting your uncovered dick into a vagina full of 24 other guys' semen.

[–]bertreapot 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i don't think he lied to her. but would it matter if he lied about loving her? we're talking about what is/isn't consensual. these men had consensual sex with this woman, there is no more culpability to it than that.

[–]amynhb 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even though he isn't guilty of rape, he would have been a manipulative, selfish person for disregarding her feelings and purposefully lying in order to do something which he knew would benefit him slightly and hurt her deeply.

There's more to human interaction than what's legal and what isn't, you can do nothing illegal and still be a manipulative piece of crap who's deeply wronged other people.

If someone abuses of your trust and manipulates you, you have every right to hate them. It may not be wise to hold a grudge for a decade, and you have no right to take legal action against them, but that doesn't mean you don't have the right to hold them accountable for their manipulative behaviour. Double standard #19258: women always cry that "men feel entitled to sex for being nice" while they themselves feel entitled to a relationship for sex.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It also makes me angry that not one guy at the party tried to put a stop to it and considered how you were going to feel the next day.

You are in control of your own body, you offered yourself to these men regardless of you being drunk or not, this was no one else fault but your own.

Also replying to this comment here About how men are filthy pigs, if that is the case, then the woman that allowed them to have sex with her, to reenact the porn, is filthy as well. It works both ways.

I fail to see how a gang bang is in the realm of good decision making. On either end.

Let me see how many dicks I can get in here tonight. Oooh I'm wanted by and appealing to these men!

My buddy just fucked that chick in front of these other dudes, I hope I'm next!

Sounds like a laundry list of shitty people to me.

Another article which pretty much gets summed up as "the men should have protected you". Surely there were other women there. We are not responsible for your stupidity.

[–]scanspeak 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Having a few drinks before the orgy gives herself (and everyone else) permission to absolve her (and only her) of any responsibility. This is what many women do, but it strangely it's a tactic that never works for men. Oddly she clearly remembers that there were 25 and that none wore condoms.

[–]xNOM 24 points25 points26 points 11 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Don't know what everyone is bitching about, here. This woman is actually a role model in a certain sense. She did something stupid and is trying to cope with it. If she were an american college student, she would have made some accusation by now. She's a woman. She asked for advice. It's not a defect that she didn't "take it like a man" and then shoot herself later after keeping things bottled up for 30 years.

The advice columnist is also correct in that if anyone there was actually her friend, they should have tried to intervene. If it were a guy doing something regrettable while drunk like vandalizing cars or something I would give the same advice.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 37 points38 points39 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Let's break down what the columnist said, shall we?

"allowed these men to use you." No, she sought them out and used them. You don't fuck all the guys at a party without an agenda.

"You need to look at how much you’re drinking and the people you’re hanging around with." A hardcore implication that the men in this story are the problem. Dude. She fucking 25 guys in one night. The worst thing you can accuse the men of is having low standards. Rock bottom. They were definitely drunk.

"It also makes me angry that not one guy at the party tried to put a stop to it and considered how you were going to feel the next day." Yep. Still the men's fault for not overriding her wishes and controlling her behavior. Imagine if she'd been writing in and said "i tried to sleep with someone at a party, but this other guy tried to stop me."

"You can’t change what happened but, hopefully, you’ve learned a massive lesson." That lesson? Men are awful. What other lesson could the columnist possibly be advising? It's certainly not "don't be such a whore." - especially when you take the next line into account, "You need to stop beating yourself up over it and focus on what to do next."

This columnists entire response boiled down to "men are the worst, the devil, evil incarnate; and you should become a lesbian."

[–]xNOM 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This columnists entire response boiled down to "men are the worst, the devil, evil incarnate; and you should become a lesbian."

Disagree. See my response to /u/Cybertoyger.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, she sought them out and used them.

It's pretty much mutual usage when all parts is consenting. We can't really say that the men didn't use her, but when she gets on her knees (I assume) to play out a porn fantasy she's definitely also using.

"You need to look at how much you’re drinking and the people you’re hanging around with."

A sound advice. I would never let a friend of mine do something like that without protesting, unless I knew she was into that kind of stuff, and not just drunk out of her mind. The guys are probably not close friends, and probably not someone she would like to hang out with in the future. Not drinking too much is also always a good idea.

"It also makes me angry that not one guy at the party tried to put a stop to it and considered how you were going to feel the next day."

Well. It's a good question, regardless of blame. Why didn't anyone think to stop it? I'm absolutely stunned that this actually happened outside of porn, and presumably not in a sex-club or an arranged orgy/gang-bang.
It was after all just one girl and 25 guys. If there were other girls there it would also be appropriate to ask why none of them interfered.

What the hell? You really just sound like the polar opposite to the feminazies that we don't like. And that's not a compliment.
You're really interpreting it in the worst way possible.
I only know what the columnist is saying in the link, I don't even know if she's a feminist. And judging by that, by what she wrote, it just seems like she's concerned for a woman that made such a stupid decision. She has probably learned somethings about how she can feel after doing something like this, and she needs to move on. She has an important decision to make regarding the pregnancy. She's basically telling her to learn from her mistakes, and to look ahead. The future is the only then that people to some degree can control.

[–]Graceful_Ballsack 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think we can all agree that the lesson she was supposed to learn is not to fuck all the men at a party. She does need to stop beating herself up over it, and next time, focus on banging only some of the guys at a party.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I guess my point is that if you need someone to advise you of this you aren't dating material; regardless of how much advice you're given. Got some flack for that notion earlier.

Dramatic, yes. But not overtly false. Maybe 70/30. The columnist was either tiptoeing around blaming the woman, or blaming the men; and in so doing it made her seem like she was overtly blaming the men.

If you can't tell the difference between someone pretending to blame a man, and someone blaming a man; their intentions are irrelevant.

Edit: Clarification of my point.

[–]CyberToyger 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

No one's bitching about the woman who slept around, I feel for her, we all feel for her. She doesn't place the blame on the men, she simply regrets what happened because she got pregnant from it. I wish that could be the case more often instead of "yeah we were both drunk, but cohesive enough to consent, but HE STILL RAPED ME!".

The advice columnist Coleen on the other hand is being both Misogynistic and Misandristic at the same time in the first half of her response.

I’m sad because you think so little of yourself that you’ve allowed these men to use you.

She's demonizing the men here for engaging in what was consensual sex with the woman. She's also reprimanding the woman for essentially 'allowing the filthy menz to degrade her body', as bold Feminists and SJW's would say.

It also makes me angry that not one guy at the party tried to put a stop to it and considered how you were going to feel the next day.

Because apparently how the woman feels at that moment in time isn't enough, no, men need to be mind-readers and predict the future. It isn't a woman's responsibility to say stop when she's had enough, it's men's responsibility to just KNOW. A bunch of drunk people tried imitating a porno they had on, and the onus falls solely on the men, because Traditionalism and Feminism both demand it.

Admittedly though, the REST of Coleen's advice is decent, I'll give her that. Getting checked for STI's is damn important advice for someone who just had sex with 25 partners, pregnant or not, male or female. And I hope the woman is able to get counseling for both what happened and on what to do now that she's pregnant.

[–]xNOM 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Something that also just occurred to me about the advice is that, nowhere is the obvious mentioned: learn how to use birth control before you have sex, if you don't want babies. Unless there is some Catholic angle here that I am missing.

[–]StrangeBedfellows -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's an Irish tabloid reporting and setting the course for news, I'm no great shakes at the demographics of Ireland but I've give it a fair wag to say most are Catholic. Not that it means much when yer shagging two tens and a five worth of drunk men.

[–]lorentz-try 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Crazy tumblrina comments aside, I really don't see the problem with the columnist's advice, which is strange because I'm with you guys on most stuff.

"Used" is personal and subjective, she was used if she feels used simple as that. Same way a man could be or a woman in a different situation. It's not judging the user, just how the use-ee feels.

Re: "not one guy" she could have said "not one person" but they were all guys apparently so "guys" in this context is more precise. I'm assuming at least one person at the party was her friend and given her regret this isn't something she would typically do. I'd have tried to put a stop to it if it were my friend.

The "onus" isn't a woman/man distinction it's a 1/25 distinction. One person making a really bad decision is less surprising than 25 people making a really bad decision. And the chance that even 1 out of the 25 had the sobriety or presence of mind to realize something bad was happening is pretty high.

[–]CyberToyger 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I will admit that I have a bit of a personal bias, as I'm a bisexual dude who's done group stuff before at the receiving end of other dudes. To me, the only real problem here was the lack of protection. And when everyone involved is drunk and horny, and she let the first dude have sex with her without protection, that set a poor precedent for the rest of the evening.

In a perfect world, she would've been on the pill and all the guys would've been wearing condoms, and she probably would've felt like a rockstar. But unfortunately, she wasn't and they didn't.

[–]xNOM -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m sad because you think so little of yourself that you’ve allowed these men to use you.

She's demonizing the men here for engaging in what was consensual sex with the woman. She's also reprimanding the woman for essentially 'allowing the filthy menz to degrade her body', as bold Feminists and SJW's would say.

Well... I was conflicted about that part. It sounds bad, but I don't think it's necessarily demonizing the men. It's "private" woman to woman advice. The men are just being men. There are statistical outliers, but on average, teenage female promiscuity correlates highly with being a fuckup and not having your shit together. Not so for boys. For men, the point of sex is the sex. This is (on average) most definitely not the case for women. This is why women end up controlling sex. It is just biology.

I don't think she meant it that way. If it were a drunk man who did something regrettable like vandalizing cars or taking a dump in public on a supermarket floor, I would say the same thing. If there were friends there, they should have intervened because they knew it would most likely be highly regretted afterwards.

Ireland is a socially conservative country where people still look out for one another. They are sympathetic to male suicide and domestic violence victimization as well.

EDIT: added irish part

I agree with most of the rest and this woman needs to seek counseling, but "I can't believe no one tried to stop you"? The biggest issue here is the response to her letter. The guys didn't "use" her any more than she used them. They had sex. Unless shes leaving out some details, this is her fault and she should take responsibility. Yes, women tend to have to be more careful than men for this exact reason. But the reason women need to be more careful is biological it isn't social. Saying the female was used is just passing the bunk.

[–]parkowork 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is sad. For a multitude of reasons. Firstly and foremost, its wrong of that blogger to just go F ALL THOSE MEN ITS SAD THEY DIDNT STOP YOU. From the sound of the letter, it doesn't sound like you objected to doing the deed*25, so why is it the men's fault for participating? They were (odds are) just as drunk. It just sucks that this is where society went to. Good on society for trying to give everyone fairness in terms of judgment, but they way overshot. So screw this blogger. Its not good that this woman decided to imitate the porn, but its not the men's fault if she was a willing participant.

[–]jollygnome123 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sidenote: a good rule of thumb is that if you're going to sleep with a girl and there's a line, she's probably not the kind of woman you want to be sleeping with. STI's and unplanned fatherhood are not fun.

I think people are taking a bit of offense at the columnist's position that the men used her. They had consensual casual sex. It was not the men's responsibility to second guess her actions and save her from some hypothetical regret she might feel. Some women do really want casual sex, even casual group sex. For whatever reason, she acted like she did that night and now regrets it. She doesn't say anything at all about being used or taken advantage of. She's clear about what she did.

I actually read this and the only negative comments are about how the author feels the girl was used and about how nobody at the party tried to stop the orgy out of thought for how she'd feel the next day.

No declaration of rape. Just a woman ashamed of her actions and a response suggesting she was used and it was wrong of no one at the party putting a stop to a drunken bareback orgy.

With that many people, there should have been at least one person who drunk or not thought that it was kind of a bad decision given the probability of pregnancy and/or STIs.

As for the used part, of course she was. She was used as a willing participant in a very dumb act. I personally don't "spend time" with one night stands and its mutual I'm sure.

She banged 25 guys???? 25?!?!?

The greek alphabet only has 24 letters. So she banged her way from Alpha to Omega....and then one more.

Why should the guy stop and think about how she is going to feel the next day - when she doesn't do it?

[–]PerniciousOne 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At least she did not decide to charge them all with gang raping her.

[–]hanselngretel 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it's fair to say that the girl in the story is crazy for sleeping with that many people in one night. However it is also fair to say that if she was really as drunk as she claimed she was then maybe the guys should have stayed clear of her.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Curious, did nobody read the advice that was given back to her? It seemed rather reasonable. For the most part, the columnist was saying she should have known better with one little blurb about how the guys should have known better too.

And don't you think them being able to get away with this, and the blaming of men, is in result of our current system? If it were more egalitarian with no double-standards, it would be different.

no.. you're perfectly normal. Many people have that interest. It's a sexual interest that is often more pronounced in those who exhibit the Alpha male characteristics. Now, if you're the bf of said girl, you would either be extremely submissive and labeled as a "cuckold," or you would be alpha male, and it would be considered, "hot wifeing."

[–]dallasdarling 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The girl didn't blame her partners, and neither did the advice columnist. It's not blaming the men to suggest that they were all acting poorly, which all 26 of these people were doing.

[–]KingMong 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She slept with more people are one party than most people ever will,

I bet she has trouble getting any man to stay after they find out shit like this, actually she's clearly crazy, so they weren't staying anyway

[–]SqishyRina 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wait, as far as I'm aware, there doesn't appear to be any mention of alcohol at all from the girl submitting the question, yet they seem to have assumed by default that these men were taking advantage of an innocent drunk girl. I'm not denying that there was any alcohol involved, but there isn't any indication that the girl was drinking excessively if at all.

Even then, this girl seems to completely acknowledge the fact that she's responsible for her actions, yet the blame is still placed on the men she chose to have sex with. I don't even see how it would occur to anyone to "consider how you were going to feel the next day" if you've consented to have sex with them.

What kind of bullshit is this? This Coleen is shocked that no one helped her, that is all. In the same way that she would be shocked if someone got beat up in front of 25 people, and none of those people did anything to stop the beating. She is disgusted with the guys at the party. She doesn't blame men. You look waay to hard for anything that could even remotely be considered misogyny.

[+]spursmad -11 points-10 points-9 points 11 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Seems like a bit of witch hunt here. Her first statement issued is that did something stupid. Acknowledging her role. And you know what, the advice is right. Not a single guy put an end to it. And that is screwed up for one of two reasons. First, this is getting in some dangerous territory where claims can be made about rape. And two, have some fucking humanity and realize this situation is screwed up.

This is the kind of post that boils my blood on this thread. Needless mocking of a female. There are tons of other, and more important, issues that we can discuss.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Not a single guy put an end to it. And that is screwed up for one of two reasons. First, this is getting in some dangerous territory where claims can be made about rape.

Do men have a responsibility to prevent someone making a false claim of rape?

Why is it the responsibility of the men to put an end to it?

And two, have some fucking humanity and realize this situation is screwed up.

By whose standards is the situation of this gangbang screwed up?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Do men have a responsibility to prevent someone making a false claim of rape?

You are responsible for yourself. If it seems too fucked up to be a good option, it's too fucked up to be a good option.

[–]spursmad -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

No, you have a responsibility to yourself to not be in crappy positions. That is what we tell sorority girls who get drunk and make a mistake. The same applies to men in potentially hazardous situations.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So, sorority girls shouldn't get themselves in a position that they might make a mistake, but men shouldn't put themselves in a position where others can make a mistake?

[–]spursmad -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You are putting yourself in a circular argument here. Precisely what is so irritating about this sub. I don't know how I can make this more clear. Take personal responsibility for your situations regardless of gender. I could have also said fraternities shouldn't put themselves in those situations. The same concept would hold true. Stop looking for an argument where there isn't one.

[–]pookabot 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So if a man has sex with 24 woman at a party some night, and for whatever reason he wants to have sex with me now, and I want to for some reason have sex with him. It is suddenly my responsibility to stop him? Why? We both are consenting adults, we both are willing. Why is it suddenly my responsibility for his sexual decisions? And then why would it suddenly be the responsibility of any man at that party for the decisions of this woman in question?

[–]spursmad -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sigh. See above. Take personal responsibility. If the risk of a false rape accusation and std is worth it then go for it.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a circular argument? OK

[–]spursmad -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Again, do I really need to go into the implications of doing a gang bang with 20 or so dudes. Seriously?

[–]Sabz5150 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

She admitted fucking up, so how are the men to blame? Sometimes women need to think for themselves and take responsibility for her actions. Banging two dozen guys in one night and crying about being pregnant then considering abortion is a shining example of slipping out of responsibility. If a man banged 25 girls in one night, every woman would hold his feet to the fire and he would be on the hook for support for every last kid. Woman? I was drunk, stupid and now I want an abortion because I dont want to be a parent. Equality!

[–]supermoore83 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I have no argument about having more important issues. However, treating her as a victim, when she was a willing participant and treating the guys as pigs (I'm not defending them, I've never been a part of a gang bang and I don't see any in my future), is creating a false dichotomy that isn't intellectually honest. They are all culpable! The one "lucky" sperm that happened to do it's job and find the receptive egg has now created a life from two parents who obviously make questionable life choices. So if she decided to keep the kid, she is going to have a hell of a time finding the baby daddy. What's the number to Maury?

[–]spursmad -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I didn't say treat her as the victim. I just said the witch burning attitude some seemed to have taken wasn't right given she admitted it was stupid.

[–]supermoore83 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But Colleen is the witch here, not the girl.

In all fairness, the girl is decent in not trying to portray herself as a victim and taking responsibility for her actions.

Exactly. This is dumb that this is the first post on this sub.

[–]xNOM 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agree. Ireland is a conservative country. It has not gone completely gender war yet. I have sympathy for this woman. She is not blaming anyone she is just asking for advice. In Ireland there is also sympathy for male domestic abuse and suicide victims.

[–]Arby01 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

now he's HIV positive?

false equivalency - pregnancy isn't equivalent to a life threatening disease.

[–]Account1999 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not equating HIV to pregnancy.

What I'm trying to say is that...

25+1 gay dudes have unprotected drug/alcohol sex and pass around STIs... Dear Colleen would probably have something to say about how ridiculously irresponsible and stupid they all were.

25 men + 1 woman have sex and she gets pregnant. - It's the men's fault.

[–]ThePigmanAgain -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

She was "very drunk." People who are very drunk cannot give consent. Hence the men, except the ones who were very drunk themselves, raped her. Not a popular opinion in this place, but the truth. If you truly think otherwise, feel free to get really drunk and then sign your house over to the nearest hobo.

[–]Hedhunta 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The problem is, if it was 1 man and 25 women and he was "very drunk" and all of the women were perfectly sober and all of the women got pregnant, guess who gets stuck paying for all of those kids....

I'll give you a hint, it ain't gonna be any of the women, no matter how sober they were and how drunk he was.

[+]ThePigmanAgain -7 points-6 points-5 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

While true, this has nothing to do with the idea that she was raped.

[–]javi404 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Being ashamed of what you did when you were drunk does not equal rape.

I got drunk and don't remember crashing my car once when I was young. Does that mean I have no responsibility for my actions? Is it the car's fault I crashed? Is it the liquor's fault? How is it anyone elses fault except her own if she decided to watch porn with 25 guys and have sex with them while getting drunk off her ass?

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Nobody said that shame = rape. Nice try. She was too drunk to consent, that's all there is to it. Any one not drunk taking advantage of that is a rapist, whether it's Amy Schumer or these guys.

[–]javi404 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

How did she remember it was 25 guys? What about the guys that were equally drunk? Did they consent? If 2 drunk people have sex does that mean both of them raped each other?

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You don't need to be in a total blackout to no longer be able to consent, not to mention that she could have asked later how many men were there. As i mentioned before, the guys who were equally drunk could not consent either so, strictly speaking, they raped her and she raped them, but it really should cancel out.

[–]javi404 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So 2 drunk people sleeping with each other = rape that cancels out?

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't see any other way to handle it. If neither of them can consent, they are both rapists. So, either you prosecute both or you prosecute neither. Do one or the other, i don't care -- i'm not stupid enough to drink alcohol, nor dumb enough to have it off with drunks.

This is part of raising awareness of the social vilification of men, and the treatment of male sexuality as predatory. The response from the columnist is that the men are somehow at fault for taking part, for not being more concerned about the woman's sober wishes - for not anticipating that the woman would regret an action she clearly says she showed enthusiasm for.

Yes, she didn't make false accusations of rape. Great! She didn't sue for child support. Great! She didn't blame the men. Great! The columnist, however, did blame the men. You are right - the woman did nothing wrong. And people arguing to the contrary could very well be slut shaming. But that doesn't mean the article isn't relevant here.
