By marrying someone who earns less than you, you’re setting yourself up for lots of potential issues. There’s not a single man alive who would be worth the risk for me. This will depend on where you live but where I’m from, in the case of divorce the lower earning party is entitled to things like spousal support payments (and yes, this is something you pay even after divorce and potentially indefinitely/until they decide to marry again), payments towards the child even if you split childcare 50/50 etc.

This has been what I’ve been doing for years. But I do also think there could be some benefits with sharing living expenses in my high cost of living area, and also not interested in marriage for financial reasons although I’m also aware that marriage is ideal before committing to living together for FDS reasons. So with that circular logic I keep choosing to be single living separately. Just want to make sure I’m not missing anything especially as we have been together for years and I’d like to have the option of early retirement.

I read the original posts and comments, he is not living at her place rent-free, he pays 40% of the mortgage (without his name being on the condo), 50% of the utilities, and 50% of the groceries. He’s still getting a bargain since it would likely cost more to rent a place and she has to obviously pay other fees associated with being a homeowner, but I’m glad his gf is getting some of the mortgage paid for her place.
