Some of these things can work but they’re not guaranteed to work, and that’s often the problem when men look for dating advice. They’re looking for guaranteed success which is impossible.

Out of all of these, “be yourself” is the only one I wouldn’t recommend. It only works if you already have attractive traits.

But this problem also exists with red pill - a lot of men try PUA and red pill and don’t find success, and now they’re angry with that too. That going to gym or being financially secure or learning how to flirt with women “is a cope” and they end up upset that it didn’t guarantee them what they wanted.

In reality some mix of all these things will offer you a bigger chance of meeting someone as opposed to doing nothing and rotting at home.

In my hometown there are a ton of clubs/activities you can join that have a mix of men and women. Co-ed sports leagues are a great way to meet people.

Also, the goal is to take up a hobby that you actually enjoy. If it's sewing or knitting, then great! If you don't like doing that, then you don't have to, but there are tons of options out there.

Lastly, friends are a great means to connect and meet more people. Friends introduce you to their single friends if you're someone they think is a good potential partner.

I'm not a huge fan of these so I get your frustrations on this one.

Love Yourself First

Like it or not, this is one of the most important pieces of advice. It's not about being confident, it's about accepting who you are. So what if you have a broad nose or a round face? I've got a crooked smile and a big head. It doesn't matter. Nobody notices it as much as I notice it, so I don't see the big deal about it anymore

The more comfortable you are with who you are, the less time you'll focus on trying to change yourself to please others. Loving yourself is critical before getting into a healthy relationship.

Be More Interested in Womanly Things

I'm...not sure you understand this one.

First off, let go of the gaylord shit. Backstreet boys were 25 years ago my guy.

Second, you don't have to be able to guess perfume, you just have to learn to appreciate a nice smell. Tell your girl she smells nice, appreciate the way a flower looks, embrace a bit more of your sensitive side. This doesn't mean you have to change your whole outlook/appearance/behavior, just learn to appreciate the things that she might like.

Have Female Friends

Being in the friendzone is not having a female friend. It means actually being a friend.

I have several female friends. It's not a "friendszone." These aren't women who are keeping me at arms length, or vice versa. These are women who I would treat just like any guy friend. We get beers, we split the tab, we chat, we send memes, we talk about what we like, that's all. Having more female friends helps you learn how to actually spend quality time with another woman.

Know The Love Languages

Big piece of advice here: Stop pretending.

If you're "pretending" to do anything just to appease a woman, you're doing it wrong. Way wrong.

If you say "well I don't like any of these things that's why I pretend," then be confident in who you are and just don't like it.

The reason these don't work for you is a combination of poor interpretation and/or false belief. You're going in toe first instead of fully embracing what these things are trying to teach you.

This is very contextual. A lot of guys will say they are averagish dudes, and none of this works. But really they are like bottom 20% in mate value.

For many good reasons, there have always been a much larger tier of low mate value men than women that cannot pair romantically. Past some threshold, there is no solution for a guy. You either increase your mate value over that threshold or you are almost supposed to never touch a woman.

Look, these cliches are not a panacea and many of them have more to do with working on yourself than actually finding success in dating. Nonetheless, they broadly represent good advice.

Perhaps some of them don't apply to you... fine, we don't know you so we cannot tailor advice to your specific needs. But you would have to be a fool to think that "put yourself out there" will not get better results than staying at home playing playstation, or declining invitations to social events. If you want to get to know new people, you need to put yourself in a position to meet them in the first place.

Why is any of this anyone else’s burden?

Cliche dating advice works. It’s a recommended generalized approach to meeting your dating needs. If a person can’t find a way to successfully fit within that framework, it has no effect on modern dating.

For example, the advice to be yourself. A person tries to be themself, gets dismissed. That doesn’t disprove the validity of the advice, it simply means that person’s true self isn’t sufficient for what they want to obtain.

I’ve hear similar push back directly from a friend. His dating goals are to secure casual sex from a variety of attractive women. His failures aren’t because the advice to be himself doesn’t work, his failures are because being his true self doesn’t work.

He’s the loud overly drunk guy at the parties, he gets into fights, doesn’t really have a steady career, the list goes on. All in all, he scares the hoes.

Meanwhile, tons of men elsewhere are able to succeed at that friend’s goals simply by being themselves.

The advice isn’t the issue, the burden is on the one receiving said advice to get better. It’s no one else’s problem.

I mean seriously, people can’t find a way to succeed even in bar and club settings and suddenly it’s the world’s problem? No. These boil down to individual issues. Individual’s issues aren’t ruining modern dating.

My thoughts on these are all very different:

Be Yourself: Yes, bad advice. If one is an angry indoor-hobby hermit and wants to meet a partner, he should probably not "be himself" and should probably try to evolve to be less one dimensional.

Put Yourself Out There: Yes, if he doesn't "put himself out there" people are never going to meet him. If he's unsociable, only goes to work and home and does a few basic errands, most people aren't going to even notice him. This is good advice, but it's often targeted at the wrong people for the wrong reasons. And no, installing a dating app isn't really "putting yourself out there"

Find a hobby: This is useful advice for people who don't really have a hobby. A lot of people just work, do basic stuff around the house, and sleep. Also, don't conflate a hobby and addiction. Someone who games for 6-8 hours a day does not have a hobby, they have an addiction. It's not useful for people who have hobbies and are just not good at socializing or converting those hobbies into a social circle, or whose hobbies are all male.

Go to Singles Events: The helpfulness of this advice is directly proportional to the quality of the singles events in one's areas. Some are decent, some really suck. Generally ones built around a common interest are better than random "open to anyone" ones. Also relatively tight age requirements are helpful to ensure people are being matched with their peers. Wider requirements discourage people at the ends of the range...20-29 and 30-39 sounds good, but a 29 year old would rather date 25-33 for example rather than a 20 year old or a 39 year old.

Go to Bars and Clubs: This is good advice for practicing talking to women, but not great for actually getting a result. The stakes are usually pretty low, you won't often see these people again, and there are lots of people there. The mindset here needs to be practicing reading IOI's, initiating conversation, and building rapport, not on "sealing the deal" or getting dates or numbers. If you go with friends, it can be fun to work together, compare notes. Make it a game, because it is. Amazing that people who enjoy playing video games often hate the fact that dating is game-like at times. This is more an incremental step like "putting oneself out there" but is often sold as a solution when it's really not. If you can talk to stranger women in bars/clubs, you can talk to women in your social/work circles.

Love Yourself First: Yes, this is worded as hippie crap, but a lot of guys walk around with deep seated insecurities and self-loathing. They're shy and awkward and hate it. They hate their appearance. You need to fix these things so you have a healthy self-image. Why should anyone else want to date or fuck you if you can't even like yourself?

Be More Interested in Womanly Things: There are limits to this. No, knowing her fragrance by scent is probably gonna come off gay or weird, but a lot of guys refuse to do anything "unmasculine." Singing Backstreet Boys at karaoke - even if it's with a buddy or two - will get millenial women going wild, but some guys won't because it's "gay" or they're "too cool" for that. Just change the artist for whatever you're going for...One Direction if you want a slightly younger vibe, whatever. Women love this because it shows a guy who a) knows how to have fun b) is secure in his sexuality and confident and c) gives zero fucks what other men think of him.

Have Female Friends: Yes, some women legit aren't interested and just want to be friends. But this does open doors if her friend expresses you're attractive, she'll immediately see you as social proofed and your friend might even become your biggest advocate with this other girl.

Know The Love Languages: This is bad advice for trying to meet someone. It's more useful within a relationship, or after you've at least been on a few dates.

Some of these cliche platitudes have this sort of paradox where they offer advice that pertains to the goal of finding a partner, but they want you to follow that advice without that goal in mind. So for example, “find a hobby”, but “do it for yourself out of enjoyment, not to go looking for someone”.

The reason for this is simple, there is an underlying unstated philosophy behind it which is, “just live life to your fullest and someone will likely step into it, and if not, at least you have sources of fulfillment that don’t require a partner.”

I think this is where the problem with these cliches stem from, once you remove that part of it and focus on actual practical advice (such as PUA), then it’s decent and worthwhile considering.

Hobbies aren’t all a sausage fest. Bro, I tried dancing just to do it and it was 80% women turn out, young old, and they’re all friendly as hell. Some of them openly flirt with you, hell I got several numbers without lifting a finger and dated one girl from there who was a whole baddie, a girl I probably wouldn’t had dated had I just randomly asked her out on the street. because dancing is a super confidence booster and it really breaks ppl out of their shells.

I currently swim with a group I see regularly and it’s more women than men in the group.

Join a church or something and it’s like 90% single women early 20s to 30s all the time. I met a girl through a bible study (she invited me, I’m not even that religious) and the whole thing was better than I thought.

There are TONs of places to meet women yet I get a sense ppl on this site just don’t go outside or something?

Yeah... Because foreign language classes, spinning lessons, book clubs, and volunteer work are totally just for men. There are plenty of activities were men and women can mingle together.

That's exactly the point. If you go to these events you'll get the chance to progressively overcome your fear of talking to women and build up your confidence. A Girl will not magically appear in front of your door.

And about the bars and clubs, I can acknowledge they are not for everyone, but... It's usually a suggestion because it's easier to land a hookup when people are a bit unhinged, and it's easier to break the barrier of physical contact if you dance with someone.

People are forgetting a big part of relationships nowadays.

It's the "relationship" part.

The part where you actually try to bond with people.

Not get in their pants. Not get a sugar daddy. Not create an economical partnership in the hope of popping babies.

Just bonding, learning about each other, living adventures together, and creating memories.

People in dating nowadays want to go directly to their end goal with what is basically still a stranger.

Then, when it doesn't work, they blame others for not fitting their ideal reality.

You want to be effective in dating nowadays? Do marketing.

Learn to sell yourself. To reach your target audience and develop yourself as a product.

That's basically what all those dating advices are, and they are true.

You still won't get the "relationship" part of relationships doing so, though.

You'll get clients, not lovers. And they will only get a product artificially constructed to fit their needs.

Then you'll get tired of playing this role. They'll get bored of the product you're selling, and you'll both throw the other away like used tissues only to go buy a new box from another seller.

People who don't do that are more than rare, and a lot already gave up searching because they experienced the truth of modern dating again and again and just lost hope.

But, it doesn't need to be that way. We can reach out to people around us bound outside of this dating sphere.

Not with a goal in mind but just to bond with others as humans.

We can humanise the products we make of each other. It's either this or a life or eternal fake relationships and loneliness.

All of these things will make you a more interesting person and often just a better human being. Will they get you a gf or a wife? No guarantees. Men are not main characters in video games where if you unlock achievements you get a reward.

"Have women friends" isn't intended so that you could eventually fuck those women. Quite the opposite, it's that you start viewing women as people, which accomplishes two things: 1- you stole putting women on a pedestal when you first start dating us. 2-you don't lose all interest once we fail to be the perfect little creature you thought we would be.

"Love Yourself First" isn't so that you'll be confident and more attractive (though those are common side effects). It means go to therapy, deal with your issues, so when you're in a relationship, you don't project your insecurities on your partner, act all jealous, or try to destroy her confidence so that she won't leave you. That's codependency. Healthy relationships can only come from two people who CHOOSE to be together, as opposed to NEEDING to be together.

These cliches are insanely overused and are seen as the best sort of dating advice to give in my opinion this stuff has overstayed its welcome.

If you’re struggling to get women interested in you on an intimate basis, you don’t need advice because there is absolutely nothing wrong with you.

All it means is that you’re a normal, average man. There is nothing more sexually invisible to women than the normal, average man.

It would be unusual if you had no trouble attracting women. This would place you in the minority of men capable of this.

But you’re not, you’re statistically average, and as such, you struggle.

Expanding your social circle isn't bad advice. The bigger your social circle, the more people you can meet through them. You might bump into someone who recognizes your friend and the two of you end up hitting it off.

To me, having female friends implies you're not trying to get romantically involved with those women. That is, they are part of your friend group. So, there shouldn't be any qualms about the friend zone with them. Again, the benefit is that one of her friends might notice you and your female friend could potentially vouch for you.

Hobbies where there are more women than men? Hiit classes like orange theorey? Yoga? Volunteering at an animal shelter. Just volunteering anywhere period.
