The word "submissive" is used a lot when referring to the "perfect wife," or at least a woman that is worth pursuing in RP spaces. Many people, including myself, do not like the use of this word because it (seems to) suggest that a women is lower than a man in a relationship, and must be obedient to him by relinquishing her freedom, independence, and voice.

The google definition of submissive is as follows:

" ready to conform to the authority or will of others; meekly obedient or passive "

The google definition of obedient is as follows:

" complying or willing to comply with orders or requests; submissive to another's will "

When I see people online talking about submission, they try to make it seem better than it actually is by saying something along the lines of 'it's not about being a doormat, it's about cooperation and respect’ or 'the woman still has a voice, and her thoughts and opinions are taken into account’ or ‘it’s about trusting your husband to make the best decisions for the household.”

But my question is, how is that different than a healthy partnership? Why does submission of one partner need to be involved if they both love and respect one another and decisions are made together? Your partner may be strong in areas that you are weak, and weak in areas that you are strong, and that is perfectly okay. Can't you be aware of each others strengths and weaknesses and cooperate accordingly?

For example, if my partner has broader knowledge of home buying and the housing market than me, I would trust him to be the one to mainly handle us purchasing a new place. Or, if we are looking to buy a new family car and I know more about cars than him, then he could put me in the drivers seat (lol) of the car-buying process. In both situations though, we would still consult with the other person before making significant decisions.

Relationships are supposed to be a give and take, and I believe that submission of one partner makes the relationship unequal and ignores the strengths of the submissive and weaknesses of the dominant partner.

Important note: When answering these questions, please refrain from using the bible or anything religious. I am not religious, so I'm not interested in hearing about how God put man above woman.
