What do you guys think of the idea of state-sponsored prostitution? Basically, it's prostitution which is paid for or at least heavily subsidized by the state, and accessible to all law abiding citizens, paid for with taxation dollars.

Most countries already significantly subsidize the meat industry, so arguing that sex is not a need isn't a great argument as meat isn't a need either, yet it is subsidized and most people are not vegans and see no issue with it.

Taxation is also used to pay for abortion clinics, so if one argues that abortion is a need which should be funded by the state, then perhaps sex is too, since abortions themselves are only necessary because of sex.

The prostitutes themselves would be deified and memorialized upon death, similar to the honor that is given to soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the country. Except it would be women who devote their lives to the sexual needs of the nation. The glorification could help curb the stigma that is often borne by prostitutes and sex workers.

It isn't a new practice either. Ancient Athens is well known for supporting state-subsidized prostitution, which heavily reduced sexual violence and provided a way for many war widows to escape poverty.

I know many women are going to oppose it since it doesn't benefit them, so to make things fair I think both female and male prostitutes should be available. That way, everyone has equal access and can enjoy the benefits.

EDIT: An argument I forgot to add is that men are already legally required to fight and die for the country. So devoting one's life to the sexual needs of the nation is just as important and the state should involve itself in this.
