When I was in my twenties, I thought I liked older men because I found men in their early thirties really attractive.

I'm in my forties now and I still think men in their early thirties are the most attractive group. It's not about the age but where they are in life. Experienced but not yet bitter or broken.

Just speaking for myself. From the outside, it would seem like I now like younger men more. But knowing myself when I was younger, I just like a specific age group.

Girls in those tiktoks are in the minority because they're not just talking about older guys, but old men. Like they'll be young 20s and into 40yos. Which is not common at all lol.

As a 20yo woman who's mostly into other 20yo men (i don't mind 1-2yrs older, it's just easiest with same-aged guys as we'd be graduating at the same time and all) my dating preferences are pretty much the norm in uni. Girls who like older guys (so at least 3-4years older) also exist, although less so, and girls who like old guys (like 35+) has been unheard of to me outside of this sub and those odd tiktok cases. And in my social circles of mostly well-adjusted young women, it's not common at all.

The way young women talk about old men is not nice anyways lol, I don't really get this sub's goal to push the idea that young women are somehow naturally attracted to old men.

I would say most women up until early 20s (college age) prefer men who are +/- 2 years. If not settled down by then, they will venture out to go + in age given men are typically more established in jobs, personality, etc (hence more stable). A woman will entertain younger men in mid/late 30s+ if the connection makes sense but probably no more than -5 year range. Where we see a drastic (~10 yr) gap is often the established woman who enjoys a certain man’s company. This is how I’ve seen it.

Why some women date older men? Dating an older man is like dating an ugly girl. Men past a certain age are desperate to date a younger woman so there's a chance he'll act nicer than a man your age. It's like tipping the balance. The guy your age sees you and thinks "meh", all the girls he knows are as young as you and therefore as beautiful as you. He thinks he'll get many. Anyway, that's why the guy your age might ignore you while the older man will simp. You can feel good about yourself just by existing because you've got the thing he wants: beauty in the form of youth. And you'll always have that over him, at least your age difference will always be there.

As for a long-term relationship, there's an age where people are most likely to start a lasting long-term relationship, and that age is near 30. Your chances of a long-term relationship decline once the man passes 33. It's not a good idea to date a man who is 40 and over. It likely won't last. Also age gap relationships are less likely to last.

The winning formula is known: marry a man your age just before 30, someone with a similar university diploma to your own. Those are the marriages that last.

Girls marrying famous old men to cash in the divorce money after a decade or two is a different story. For most people we aren't dating celebrities.

You’re correct that most women don’t want to date younger men. But most also don’t want to date someone more than five or so years older. 1-3 years older seems typical. It also heavily depends on the age of the woman. Women in their teens and early 20s tend to be repulsed at the thought of dating someone the slightest bit younger. But after everyone is over 25, age starts to matter less. And sometimes people end up with people they wouldn’t normally think they’d prefer. My boyfriend is a few years younger, which is not my usual preference, but it’s never been an issue. I just wouldn’t want anyone under 25, and I wouldn’t want anyone more than 10 years older, because I’d rather not spend my middle age playing nurse. Of course sometimes younger people get sick, and I’d stick by my partner. But dating a much older man is just setting yourself up for that.

Women do not care or obsess about age, they have their own wierd things that I’ll never get, but having fixations on age is not one of them.

I think we’re far enough into humanity, and finding some equality among the sexes, to finally just say that wanting do date younger people in general is a trait many people have. It’s more related to wanting authority or wanting to feel younger by having a younger partner than anything to do with sex or gender.

Lesbians and gay guys also prefer dating younger sometimes, or are we just gonna ignore that?

This is about women liking younger men or not, it’s about personality traits and wants/needs in a relationship that CAN correlate to sex and gender, but it’s largely due to societal norms than anything biological.

I think a lot of recently divorced women date younger guys for awhile and I think women prefer older men at certain points in their life. And “older” is relative as you age. A 28 year old man is older to a 22 year old woman. Most guys are immature and don’t have much to offer until their early/mid 30’s and then are attractive into their 50’s if they stay fit and are successful. When you hit the 60’s + women are wary of any kind of health issue that slows men down. It’s all about staying in shape and youthful for your age. It’s much easier these days with TRT, etc. Women are attracted to men that are more experienced, wiser and established.

I just did a search and came up with countless articles including Psychology Today stating women overall prefer older men.

This comes as no surprise to me at all. Women as you said often prefer a man with experience and in the end many women want a man who can provide for them. Older men tend to be more experienced and tend to be more capable providers.

I think more women would date even older guys if there wasn’t a social stigma against it. This social stigma of course comes from older women who don’t want to be left out as well as married men who wish they’d married younger. I’ve seen many men change their tune on this once they divorce.

I think everyone is different. I think problems arise when you put everyone in a box. People will still do whatever they want. Some women are promiscuous but some are afraid of the stigma. This doesn’t mean they won’t go with someone, they might not do it with someone that is close to them or they’ll just get a boyfriend. Problem might be there too, some people are alright getting something rather than nothing. I’ve had discussion with girls who are in relationships where they’re not satisfied, but once the relationship brakes they’re out there looking for satisfaction.

Older men is not that uncommon, a bit older than your age yes. But a significant age gap is way different. Some people date even younger guys.

I'd say women have historically been discouraged from being sexual to any extent and only since the 1950's have been slowly winning recognition as sexual creatures similar to men, let alone being allowed to enjoy sex for its own sake.

Add to that the willingness to see women as financially competent in their own right and there's real hope that we won't be majorly leaning in either direction, due to social constraints.

As a woman I can tell you that for the most part women Do not prefer older men. Maybe they are fine with 3 years or so older but 5 + years is rare. Women prefer men around their own age. The only "age gap" relationships I personally know of are where the woman is between 8 and 18 years older than her male partner. I know of zero where the make is significantly older. Talking to female friends and colleagues we all dislike older men hitting us. We prefer younger men to older men and we prefer men our own age most of all. OP doesn't know shit about women.
