ThrowawayPUA:
It is generally a bad idea to promote seddit elsewhere on reddit. It does little good for the people you think it will help. And it only exposes seddit to more haters. We will be here when they need us. But they don't need us to push ourselves on them. I will also note that there have been some aggressive promotions of other subreddits that criticized seddit in their spams, so promotion could cause a reactivation of resentments.

The "Dennis" short comes to mind.

You need to understand something, clopclop, is a fringe group the majority of bronies don't visit and, and about that WHO GIVES A SHIT. Do you have a low opinion about people that watch hentai? You know there is much more that I could bring up, (such as the fact that they are attracted to the human qualities and innocents of the characters, thus the anthro idea exists) but fuck it, I'm tired. Continue thinking badly of a group that has done nothing wrong.
[–]criticalhit 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The majority of the community at large tolerates Seddit, except for the concept of LMR. In their opinion, no means no, and I'm having trouble not being persuaded by that. Yes, I know that a proper seduction means sex should "just happen" in the girl's eyes.
[–]n0ggy 12 points13 points14 points 13 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I'm just going to copy/paste the answer I gave to a similar question a while ago. Here it is :
There are ton of things that are bothering me with the PUA community.
Thinking that having sex with a bunch of girls makes you a winner. Honestly, if you're not half-ugly and get past the whole "fear of rejection" thing, everyone ends up getting a few one night stands. There's absolutely nothing amazing with picking up half-drunk chick while you're at the pub. Also, the whole field report thing really feels like self-persuasion, as if the guys knew they aren't that great and need to compliment each others to rub their ego. One of my best friend is a guy who picks up about 2 girls a week and he admitted himself that it was all about needing to prove something to himself. Others have been is couple for years and are genuinely winners. Having sex is less pathetic than behind single, but don't think it makes you a winner. It may solve a few insecurities, but not the real psychological issue.
The "group therapy" thing. Just like George Carlin said. I don't mind relying on others, bloggers, and articles, but don't come bragging about you being strong, confident and independent afterwards.
Seduction and attraction are unfair, without rules and chaotic by nature. And the PUA community really tries to make it like everyone has a chance and that there is dogmatic rules in seduction. I think there is a bit of good information (usually the things that was taken out of sociology & psychology books), such as the difference between what people says they want and what they actually want. But what I really hate are those "you look doesn't matter", "size doesn't count" bullshit. It really is proof that PUA Community is just another market that doesn't want to upset its potential customers.
Throwing the term "alpha male" everywhere. Honestly, the only people I know in life who are fitting the profile, don't even know what an "alpha-male" is supposed to be. Nor do they spend their time on the internet bragging about it. The real natural leaders who attract women are living, not talking about their life behind a keyboard. I believe you can improve who you are and become more interesting, but being a natural leader is, well, natural.
The PUA seminars & DVD really feel like scam. I tried to listen to a bunch of those on youtube. It's overly long videos with basically no substance. The guys are talking a lot more than they actually say. To the point where you wonder if they are either frauds or intentionally not giving away their technique. I also can't believe the price on these things, it's basically exploiting people with social anxiety. A good psychologist or friend may give better results at a lower price. And they actually know what they're talking about.
The countless acronyms and weird vocabulary. (Even though I'm obligated to use some in my argumentation) Maybe it's just me, but it really feels like a cult of weirdos. And like I said earlier, the need for everything to fit into stereotypes because you can't deal with the fact that reality isn't homogeneous.
Some guys who went from "staying at home" to "trying seduction techniques" think that what got them girls is mostly neg, openers, one-liners, kino and whatnot. No, what got you the girl is going out and meeting people. The rest just got you the girl earlier or improved your chances by a few percents, no more.
"You can get any girl". No you can't. This is not cynicism or pessimism. What you can do is pushing the "out of your league" further. But you cannot get ANY girl. Telling this to the socially awkward obese nerd is pure marketing and manipulation.
All in all. Not realizing that picking up a girl isn't hard. It's only hard if you are a teenager or a guy with social anxiety issue. What is hard is finding the right girl, getting the right girl, and building a happy relationship with her.
(Phew, I might have been overboard with the criticism). I'll try to finish by saying that not ALL is bad. There's a few sociological and psychological truths. It's also not too bad if you're really shy. It can get you motivated. Just don't get too cocky and don't believe everything.
(possible grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language)
[–]Nicolay77 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Honestly, the only people I know in life who are fitting the profile, don't even know what an "alpha-male" is supposed to be.
Honestly, I find most real "alpha-males" are quite good leaders, and definitely know what an alpha-male is, as they are generally well educated.
My point is: I don't see your dichotomy about 'doing' and 'knowing' stuff.
[–]n0ggy 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I meant that they don't use the term "Alpha male" as members of the PUA community use it. They don't go around saying "see what I did ? It was SO alpha !" . They don't use it in it's slang form, that's what I meant.
A lot of members of seddit brag about what they do. Just like a kid would say "Look momma ! Look what I did ! I'm a grown up, am I not ?!". That was what I was trying to point out.
[–]Nicolay77 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Fair enough.
But that's also a part of two interrelated processes: learning to do something (people require a positive feedback loop) and being part of a community (two or more people doing the same thing, and then achieving male bonding).
So, yes, it can be obnoxious to you, and technically incorrect (until they actually learn), but it's just human nature.
[–]n0ggy 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I totally understand that some people need to rely on a community and interact with others to learn. But as another poster said, the PUA community is often very condescending and arrogant toward others and see themselves as "superior" despite the fact that they relied a lot on others to learn what they learned.
The very existence and use of the term "AFC" to describe competitors in field reports is kind of proving my point.
[–]Nicolay77 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
True. AFC should only be used to self-describe our former selves.
Right: 'When I was an AFC ...'
Wrong: 'Look at that AFC over there...'
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"you look doesn't matter"
Is that really a general attitude around here? I feel like some of the most basic pieces of advice around here are "go to the gym" and "learn how to dress" so that you look better.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Mystery says very clearly early in MM that sex isn't the only thing pickup is supposed to be used for. You can use it for whatever you want.
Looks don't matter. You either are a woman who is being pissy at us or a man who doesn't know what pickup is and hasn't tried it.
No one is here to brag about being alpha. The only thing that makes a person alpha is realizing that "faking it is making it." If you act alpha and carry yourself as such, you are alpha.
Some PUA stuff is good, some is garbage. You have to be selective.
[–]n0ggy 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
(Upvote for the sake of Rediquette but strongly disagreeing here)
Mystery might say one thing, but the attitude of /r/seduction isn't really applying that concept. Every field report I've read is about guys calling themselves "alpha" because they had sex, and others "AFC" because they didn't.
I think you can raise the standard of the debate without going into stereotypes. For your information, yes, I am a man, and yes I know what pickup is. I can't provide any proof of my knowledge and success because that would be futile and a little pathetic but I have experience in that area. I would say that the accurate truth would be "Looks doesn't matter... to an extent". I am quite good-looking so my appearance doesn't have an influence on my confidence, however, it doesn't change the fact that some women don't think I'm their type. Also, I maintain the fact that a very unattractive man may increase its potential, but there goes a point where his appearance will matter.
Denying that people in /r/seduction brag about being alpha won't make it true though. This is an observable fact in field reports. And if they need to fake it, they need to do it on the field, not in their report. I still think becoming alpha takes a little more time that than. You may quickly become alpha in the eyes of others by faking it, but feeling alpha and actually being one requires time. Confidence and natural leader attitude don't come naturally in a day.
Agreed. But lately, the PUA stuff is a lot of marketing garbage. This community needs to get their shit together if they don't want to be called scam soon.
[–]gabriot 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No one is here to brag about being alpha? Have you completely ignored 90% of all the FRs?
[–]benpancake 101 points102 points103 points 13 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link
To be completely honest, some of you guys are total douchebags. Just yesterday I visited and watched that video with that Jeffey guy or whoever and he said something along the lines of "If I'm 'beasting' and the girl I want has a boyfriend, I say 'oh I'm sorry bro, I thought you were like her retarded little brother and that's why she was holding your hand.' While I thought it was funny, you can see how guys who have seen this type of guy who considers himself part of the seduction community and think they are shitty people/douchebags. I think some the ideas tossed around here are really interesting and hold merit, but I also think they attract a breed of person that I'm less likely to find appealing.
Let the downvotes begin.
[–]itsmevichet 57 points58 points59 points 13 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link
Guys like that aren't the way they are because of pick up.
They're like that because they're assholes.
Pick up, like power, is a tool. It has no morality - only what is projected onto it by it's user.
[–]clickitie_click26 points 13 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. If a bodybuilder beats up a little girl, that's not going to discourage me from going to the gym.
If he's a good bodybuilder, he might even be able to give me some advice on working out, that I'd listen to. That doesn't mean I approve of beating up little girls.
[–]agentdynamo 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Great great analogy
[–]trapped_in_jonhamm 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I get your analogy, but I wouldn't agree that it's quite that simple. Such a small portion of people that work out regularly do it with the intent of beating up little girls (probably close to none), while a fairly significant portion of the seduction community tends to be of the type described in the parent post.
[–]gabriot 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yes but there are TONS of people like that in this subreddit - and if you so much as remotely try to point out how douchey they are you are immediately downvoted and dismissed as a "white knight".
[–]arienh4 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Honestly, that's a part of the 4chan culture I am very sad has seeped into the rest of the internet.
Think about it. What's wrong about being a white knight? It just means you have proper morals.
[–]itsmevichet -2 points-1 points0 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I guess that depends on how you present the message. The whole point of my blog, which now gets most of its traffic from Reddit, is telling guys how their shit is weak, and that they need to work on not being lame.
The difference between a white knight and a Don Juan - a white knight tries to put others down for pursuing what they want. A Don Juan gives people power and knowledge to choose for themselves.
[–]benpancake 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I did my best to not over-generalize an make it clear I understand there's variation, but I figured an argument like this would surface. I think the type of guys this community are the type of guys that have to believe they really understand the world to a greater extent than most people. A lot of their statements will sound somewhere close to "It's because they don't understand the world (or women, or social cues, or what have you) as awesomely as I do." There's just bound to be a lot of arrogance in this community, and a lot of it won't be backed up. Again, let me soften the statement even more drastically than I did in the original comment by saying that is not to say that there is no merit to any of the things posted, that there aren't some guys that actively participate that I couldn't become great friends with. It's only pointing out that in my observation the attitude the community seems to attract more often isn't my cup of tea.
[–]itsmevichet 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's kind of what defines almost every community on reddit, and anywhere else, for that matter.
And, every organization in history has it's ups and downs.
Take away what works for you, and use it in the way that is true to you.
No one here "forces" guys to become pick-up lingo, proselytizing zealots. We simply provide insight. Information. That's all.
What someone chooses to do with that knowledge and direction is their beef.
attract a breed of person that I'm less likely to find appealing.
Personal taste noted. You sound like you have a complex relationship with seduction advice. I honestly don't even look at it as "seduction" as much as "life advice applied to how you deal with women."
If I were you, I'd just be chill about it. This community defines the people in it about as much as the shirt I wear on a given day defines me. You don't have to ruin your day thinking about how people on the internet are dickbags.
It's just a place where we talk about a specific part of our lives. Not exactly like we're trying to get lays 24/7.
Well, some of us are. But they'd probably fit in better at /r/foreveralone
[–]benpancake 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My relationship with 'seduction' advice really isn't that complex. I generally like to just keep up with it (lurking most of the time) and pull out what's useful to me and roll my eyes at or laugh at the people that fit that stereotype we're discussing. I really honestly like this sub-reddit, and it's only really in the context of someone bringing up a conversation about why people have problems with this sub-reddit that I have anything negative to say.
[–]agentdynamo -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And yes, they definitely can. One of the ideas I really like that gets mentioned on here a lot is the whole concept of "don't be afraid to fail, just keep trying till you reach success, failures mean nothing." While I think this is great, and can make a big difference in a lot of guys lives (and girls too) I think some guys take this idea too far and use it as a justification for doing some pretty disrespectful/douchey things.
[–]marsofwar 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There's that but also, when I read the game, It was really interesting because it was about a journey about a guy who never really got laid, but he found all these tools to help him get girls and become more interesting.
that was fascinating, but as I read more and it became clear that somehow that message got lost and it became all about just going out and getting girls to be attracted to you and then love you and then leave her when her usefulness wore out.
Especially reading about Tyler Durden living in the house and how they schemed to Freeze out Neil and Mystery for no apparent reason other than they were taking away their business.
And then you also hear about the "BoyFriend destroyer" Technique and such and it doesn't seem to create a good environment for a lot of people.
But maybe i'm wrong.

Nah, up votes from me, I could tell you if I knew this subreddit was run by that dude, or the guy who wore like clown clothes and stupid hair on MTV, I'd never want to come here either. Mainly because I think it's the intention. Nothing about their intentions tell me they are helping you really find a fulfilling relationship, it's much more about who you wanna wake up next to and forget the next morning. The setting are clubs and bars where(mostly) its a mutual feeling of "whose good enough to bang"
Nothing wrong with that.
I just know that most of the one night stands I've had(before I've found this subreddit), just make me feel like shit, and I think that's cuz I've matured from worry ONLY about the short game. That's why I try and establish somewhat off a relationship. Life can't be comprised of fucking, going to sleep, and leaving that night(or morning)
Meh, I'd write more cuz of the Lincoln tunnel traffic, but again..meh ha
Also if some dude came and said that little brother comment to me, they would get mollywopped, like a serious one beat down. Disrespect to not only me but to her and the relationship we have, potentially have whatevs.

I'm one of those assholes, but I won't downvote you.
PUA tends to attract those who were nothing with women and want to fix things. Naturally this will draw in some people with less than stellar morals as well as genuinely nice guys who have no clue what they are doing.

I've been a lurker on here, because like some others, I find the ideas interesting. I'm 29 and I've been around a bit, I have my own methods of approaching women, with some success I might add. I subscribe to this forum because I might learn something, or at least read a good story.
However, there are a number of reasons why I can see that someone is off-put by this community. For one thing, the "glossary of terms" can be pretty weird to someone who is only looking on casually. Some of them are abbreviations, which are fine; but is Kino really a necessary term for "touching"?
Another thing I'm sympathetic to is people who are wary of manipulators, emotional and otherwise. I've had to deal with enough manipulative narcissists in my life, and I'm guarded against anyone who views this lifestyle as something to aspire to.
However, for the most part, people on this community are just trying to get laid. Last time I checked that isn't a crime. Followers of this community probably aren't hurting anyone.
[–]remarkedvial 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
is Kino really a necessary term for "touching"?
I see what you mean, but consider that all interest groups have jargon. Might as well ask a group of wine enthusiasts if 'bouquet' is really a necessary term for 'smell'.
I can elaborate on the usefulness of jargon if you like.
[–]NomadicScribe 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I'm well familiar with jargon (or NLP as your glossary defines it), having served in the military. Why say bulkhead, porthole, hatch, deck, trousers, blouse, and moonbeam when you can just say wall, window, door, floor, pants, shirt and flashlight? Why would you call running shoes "go-fasters"? In order to indoctrinate and separate.
Language is a potent way of isolating an individual from the broader populace. Once somebody is steeped in a methodology of language, they begin to stand out. More importantly, they have identifiers handy to recognize others in the same circle.
So, a guy who is talking about how he's "overcame AA by following the three-second rule, and kinoing a HB8 all night and following up with #-close, resulting in SNL", it can be read by a fellow Sedditor as a kind of secret handshake, and by a stranger as a bunch of nonsense.
[–]remarkedvial 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
In the military, what you have described could be a desired effect of jargon. And that could be true in some other situations. However, in many other situations, most other situations, I don't think that's true at all.
For example, the purpose of IT jargon (I'm an IT consultant) is not to indoctrinate or separate, it's not to identify each other, it's not a secret handshake, it's not any of these things, not at all. When speaking or emailing with other technical people, using tech jargon simply allows me to communicate faster and more clearly, which ultimately allows us to solve problems faster and more thoroughly. Using jargon allows us to skip unnecessary explanations, because we both already have that underlying knowledge, it's like a mutually understood shorthand.
If any of what you said applies to IT jargon, or any other jargon that I am familiar with, it would be clearly an unintended side effect, because honestly, I would love it if more non-IT people understood tech jargon, it would make my job and my life so much easier.
[–]NomadicScribe 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You're not wrong. And I'm familiar with technical terminology as well, having just earned my CCNA certification last week. But the original question was, "Why so much hate for seddit"? And my answer is that language alienates the common observer, conveying an ingroup/outgroup mentality, whether it is really there or not.
[–]remarkedvial -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed, the use of jargon could definitely contribute to the "hate". See my other comment in that post regarding language in this subreddit.

Personally, I'm not really searching for anything in particular right now. I want to keep getting laid. However, if I find a genuine, interesting, and caring individual to make my girlfriend I can still do that by using seddit.
[–]NomadicScribe 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I would beg to differ. You are not accomplishing any social mission by "using Seddit." You are doing that by going out there and being yourself. The power... is yours!
[–]baianobranco 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, yeah of course...
But by applying attraction principles (TBH I don't study techniques or anything like that anymore, just use it for motivation and occasional tips) I am able to have really great times and introduce new people into my group or join other groups.

I go on /r/seduction to learn how to build a good network of friends, more than anything. Men and women alike. I think it's working out quite well, I know people ranging from stereotypical virgin nerds, weed dealers, frat boys and fobby Chinese mainlanders.
[–]NomadicScribe 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's a reason why I included the qualifier "probably."
For one thing, we're all human and in my experience, it's impossible to get close to someone without hurting them someway or somehow. But this community is also mainly made up of a demographic more likely to be reckless with emotions: headstrong older male teens and younger male twentysomethings.
And now that you bring it up, I agree: the dehumanization necessary to tell these stories with their community-proprietary language is jarring. They really do treat it like an elaborate game. I'm sorry that your feelings got hurt by that kid, and I hope he grows up and learns from this.

Kino is an abbreviation of kinesthetics. If memory serves, Mystery brought the term to the PUA community.
I know what kinesthetics are. It still doesn't answer my question as to whether it's a necessary term. It's kind of like insisting on using the word "interrogative" instead of question. As far as I can tell, it still just serves as a way of off-putting newcomers and creating distance between pickup artists and non-pickup artists. Like a secret handshake/community signal. See my comment above.
[–]asad16 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The problem with the terminology is that it was inherited by the PUA's which was fundamentally driven by getting laid. The trend is slowly progressing into a more self-help community while emphasizing in making a person attractive. Because of this transition phase, people do get caught up on the PUA linguo which kind of brings a negative view onto seddit. Personally, I feel like the community is a hybrid of PUA/Self-help which is why there is tension between r/seduction and reddit. I think it's at a really good state, as it's not at a point where it just treats women as objects, nor is it at a state where it just preaches arbitrary 'feel-good' shit. It includes a bit of mental development while trying to include anecdotal evidence to further progress.

Two days ago there was an FR where the OP seduced a married woman and left her crying after they'd had sex. After she had put up "LMR".
And yet you still wonder why this community is frowned upon?
[–]OneFlipWonder 8 points9 points10 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That FR got downvoted to hell. I like a lot of what this community does but that was appalling.

Is it the gun's (seddit) fault for killing the person or the person who pulled the trigger (OP).
[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The person, but that doesn't mean it doesn't tar the rest of the community with the same brush by association.
My opinion is that this community is named wrongly. The best of the people here are more interested in self help than pickup. The best people in this community are interested in becoming better people, more self confident, more interesting and more fun, a by product of which is getting more women.
The people who are here purely to figure out how to get women to sleep with them are not the kind of people I want to be associated with, which is why I don't consider myself to be part of the 'pickup' community and I don't recommend this stuff to my friends.
I give them advice on how to be more confident etc, but I'd never tell them to go about belittling another guy just to get some next girls number. It's a dick move, and in the long run, you'll hate yourself for being a dick and not having real friends that trust you more than you'll love the girls you'll get.
I have a general rule of thumb. If you start using abbreviations, pickup slang and words like 'beasting', you're probably going down the wrong path (i.e. that Jeff guy's video that got posted up the other day. The dudes a straight up dick, and I'm gonna bet he neglects to let his viewers know about the time he ragged on some girls boyfriend and then got humiliated for his stupid ass haircut and dick head attitude).
[–]marsofwar 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is my thought as well. It seemed like a good way to gain confidence and learn to talk to women and not lost such self confidence if a girl did turn you down, but then the more I read, the more it came to be about getting laid at every opportunity.
There's nothing wrong with that, but when I see posts about guys going after married girls and girls with bfs just so they can say they did that, I dont want to be associated with people like that.

Reddit's core user base is young men (16 - 25) who aren't good with women. They don't know how too approach dating or picking up women, and they dislike those who do. They buy in to the common notion that being nice gets women. Whilst this is true (being nice is obviously very attractive), being nice alone won't make people interested in you. They also misunderstand what being nice is about. They think showering a woman with compliments and worshipping everything she does = being nice, and whilst this may be true, it makes them boring.
So when people see seddit, and people talking about things to do to make women interested in you, mind games, things to say etc, it goes against what they think attraction is all about, and so they dislike it.
They think seddit is about cheating at picking up women, and not that it's just about learning how attraction works. They think it's about manipulating women, when actually it's about making yourself more attractive.
[–]m4dh4tt3r[S] 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes I believe this is the case. As n0c0ntr0l said we are
voodoo hypnotic mysogynist manipulators
because they(AFCs) do not understand or bother to learn how to be attractive.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hence they remain AFCs while we reap in the vagina sex prizes relationships that last however long we want respectable, non objectified women who choose by their own design to be independent and remain with us so long as they please because they are clearly independent and not controlled by evolved processes. (/R/SRS SPIES CAN'T CATCH A BREAK IF YOU ACT LIKE A FEMINIST)
[–]remarkedvial 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
They also misunderstand what being nice is about.
Also, something that has been said better by others, being "nice" to a girl usually involves not being completely honest about your intentions. For example, there's nothing nice about having a girl convinced that you're just her friend, and then only making a move on her when she's vulnerable and expecting friend-like support from you.

Straight girl. This subReddit has made me paranoid that any guy who talks to me might be using these tips/tricks at any given time. But, its pretty easy to tell who is trying to pick you up and who is being genuine with you. I'd take someone genuine over a PUA any day and I'm glad I can pick them out now. It just seems awkward to bother associating with someone who has a motive from the beginning.

Think for a minute that you are part of a group that is a "target" of another group. Leaving the fact that seddit is about men trying to seduce women, it might get kind of creepy when you realize there is a group out there that is planning/scheming/sharing notes on how they should try to get close to you. I don't know about you, but if me being asian was a commodity and there was a group out there that specialized on "how to make friends with asians," i would be kind of creeped out. Furthermore, it would be kind of insulting if they generalized all asians and had specific terms on how to get through to them. I guess many people believe relationships, romantic or not, should be more "natural." I don't know about you, but if I found out that one of my friends did research on me, try techniques on me, to try to be closer to me (especially to get something they want), then it would freak me the fuck out. I think it's the calculating nature that doesn't sit well with people.
[–]xAtarigeekx 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't like the calculating nature either, I always think it sounds creepy when people use terms like LMR, HB, AFC, AMOG etc etc. But I tend to ignore that side of it, I'm not interested in how someone got the upper hand of another man in the group or how hot from 1 - 10 the woman was, that stuff is a bit childish IMO.
There are though, specific ways of getting through to women, and much of it does work. Certain ways of looking at someone, certain ways of joking and making certain comments do make people attracted to you, especially in a bar/club environment. I don't mean all women and in all circumstances, that would be a gross over generalisation, much of it is based around being out at a bar or a club, and only women who are out for essentially the same reasons, hooking up with someone. You can't convince someone who doesn't want to have sex with you to do so, it's about making yourself more attractive so that women who would want to do so are more likely to do so.
I agree with you that relationships should be more natural. Every relationship I've ever had has been as a result of meeting someone and gradually getting to know them, not meeting in a bar, having sex and deciding to keep doing so. The whole bar/club side it is basically purely based around hooking up with someone that night.
But there is a lot which is simply about improving yourself, becoming more confident in yourself, knowing how to appear fun and interesting, which obviously makes you more attractive and makes people want to be around you. In turn, you're likely to meet more people from which the more natural relationships you mentioned can grow from.
I don't think too many people would say that a confident, interesting, fun person would be boring to hang around with. People like this are instantly attractive. It's human nature to want to be around people who make you feel good. So if you feel good about yourself, you act that way, and in turn you give off good vibes which people are attracted to.
Much of the stuff on seddit, at it's core, is about improving oneself so one is more attractive to others. It's not all about tactics in the club.
[–]ruorgimorphu 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think that's it. I think they know that seddit's techniques work and dislike it for other reasons, including priorities about who they want to be.

I am going to give you an honest, feminist response. The idea that /r/seduction is sexist has to do with subtle things like language and the general mindset of many posters here.
The basic idea is that a lot of what you guys say and how you say it implies that you do not view women as people, but as objects that are your's to control and use as you desire.
This mindset manifests itself in many ways. Using the word "females" instead of "women" or "ladies" and discussing "field reports" gives off a cold, scientific vibe. "Female ducks" is how you would refer to animals, not to people. When you use the word "females" and "men" in the same sentence it implies that you view women as sub-human. A lot of people say these sorts of things without even realizing it, but this is the implication that the words hold and so you should be aware of them when you say them.
Most posters also seem to forget that women are individuals and do not all act exactly the same. Some posters go as far as saying things like "she acts this way because ________, this is how you can counter/avoid/whatever it". Again, this is dehumanizing since it removes the woman's personality from the equation entirely.
Not using names (or nicknames) and judging women solely based on their appearance is also dehumanizing for obvious reasons.
These are just a few examples. For the record, this sort of subtle sexism exists in most places, not just /r/seduction (though it does display itself a lot more here than in other places). If anyone would like more examples, or a further explanation of what I mean, feel free to ask me!
[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Please don't take any bullshit answers you got to be representative of /r/seduction as a whole.
What you're describing is the attitude of guys who have previously felt devalued by women. What negative feelings women feel about being objectified, men feel for being considered second-rate breeding stock, so perhaps you can relate. When they're getting their grips, learning new moves, and applying them, it isn't helpful yet to focus on the person rather than the behaviors.
As we go out and meet women, practice, and learn more, it becomes more and more obvious that we're dealing with human beings with personalities, idiosyncrasies, different approaches to life and the way they think. We first thought we were doing something deterministic, where our actions get a guaranteed response, like tweaking inanimate objects. The world shows us otherwise. What one girl ate up and loved experiencing, another will shrug and act like her least favorite show just came on TV. Sexists simply can't penetrate the barrier to higher-level game. You must respect a person's humanity in order to have a chance.
[–]Raeko 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
We first thought we were doing something deterministic, where our actions get a guaranteed response, like tweaking inanimate objects.
This is exactly it right here. This attitude is rampant on this subreddit. Thanks for the well thought out response, and I hope that some of these posters grow out of it as you seem to have done.
[–]targetLocked 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think for the purposes of discussing techniques and behaviors, it's simpler and more effective to generalize across all/most women. For instance if a guy wants to know how to escalate better, it's not helpful to go off on a tangent about different personalities and try to account for every possible way that a woman might respond to a given touch. That sort of thing can be mentioned later or perhaps in a post telling how to deal with rejection.
I think it's safe to assume certain things like basic human decency. If we had to stop after every paragraph to remind everyone that women are people, not objects, we'd be typing forever. That said, I think it's good to have reminder occasionally, so threads like this one are helpful and serve that purpose.
[–]Raeko 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You can remind everyone that women are people by the words you choose to use! IMO even changing something as simple as "female" or "target" to "woman" implies that you are seeing her as a person rather than an object or specimen to study.
[–]Raeko 8 points9 points10 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I did not ignore anything and thanked him for the response. Your post contributes nothing to the discussion.
[–]UnapologeticalyAlive 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The word "sexist" implies that there is some sort of discrimination going on. In order for that to be true, we would have to be "dehumanizing" women while refusng to apply the same treatment to men. We don't. We examine the phychological mechanisms motivating behaviors of both men and women. We do it to ourselves more often than we do it to anyone else. I don't think you would accuse us of being misandrous for that.
what people seem to forget, and what you are saying, I think, is that it's got nothing to do with reducing women to any level - it is us saying that there are particular patterns that women subconsciously follow, just as there are for men, that inhibit the development of relationships on the basis that we have trained ourselves to be socially insulated and anxious about meeting new people.
[–]UnapologeticalyAlive 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Actually I think the patterns girls follow are perfectly logical, and the guys are the ones inhibiting the development of relationships.
[–]rarecabbage 11 points12 points13 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I don't see the general use of "females" having sexist undertones, but I do agree that /r/seduction is too dehumanizing and somewhat creepy how some of these men talk about women. It seems like it's almost a game the few times I've gone on this subreddit, the field reports and articles hinting that you can attract women through basic formulas. The top article right now talking about how to make an average looking guy instantly become "hot" is a good example. A compliance test? "If you don’t know this one secret technique, you will fail these tests and never gain entrance..."? I for one think this is rather ridiculous, and there are no secrets that work with every woman. I just see it as not being a pansy and doing everything she tells you to do. If your sole purpose is to just sleep with women, that's fine, but I still find the objectifying woman very prevalent in this community.
What I do like about this subreddit is that the community seems very upbeat abut building confidence. I feel as if you don't need these "scientific" techniques for picking up women, but rather just start building confidence about yourself and not thinking about every move you make on a woman. The general morale and encouragement is admirable and I can tell this place does genuinely improve some people's lives.
Overall, I can definitely see why some hate this subreddit, but at the same time you're not forced to be here.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
A compliance test?
Believe it or not, studies show that people will like you better if you ask them to do favors for you. Feeling needed is important to people.
Not to mention that women do compliance tests on guys ALL. THE. TIME.
As "How to Win Friends and Influence People" states, one of the driving forces behind human motivation is a need to feel important to others. This is why asking favours is actually sometimes a good idea.
However, another force behind human activity is laziness/conservation of energy, and you should therefore use small compliances.
[–]remarkedvial 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Most posters also seem to forget that women are individuals and do not all act exactly the same.
I see what you mean, and would agree that this subreddit often generalizes women, that's because the subreddit is not about women, it's really about men. It's a subreddit for male self improvement. I really don't believe that posters forget that women are individuals, rather, I think it is often useful to generalize women (as well as situations) in this subreddit in order to focus on the technique in question. In other words, it would not be easy to focus on a particular technique if in every post it was necessary to describe the woman in question and the situation in question. Does that make sense?
Using the word "females" instead of "women" or "ladies"
Here's my take. I frequently see the term "male" used in this subreddit, and not just in the "alpha male" context, often as a replacement for "men". I just did a subreddit search for the term "male", found many examples of this in the submission titles alone. If I had to guess, I would say that the more scientific terms "male" and "female" are often used for linguistic reasons, for example, "female behavior" is easier than "the behavior of women", or "her female friends" sounds more natural than "her women friends" or "her friends who are women". Can't speak for anyone else, but the only time I use "ladies" is when I'm approaching some female friends (I just used "female" inadvertently, but doesn't that sound more natural than "women friends", or "girl friends" in this context) and trying to sound like a dbag for a laugh, as in "Hey ladies!".
I'm sure you've noticed the use of jargon in this subreddit. Jargon is used for these reasons mentioned above, to enable focused conversation without having to explain specifics.
Similarly, feel free to ask me any questions, I only comment occasionally, but I do read many of the top submissions and comments, so I'm familiar enough with the subreddit to provide perspective.
This is my military bias again, but i still don't understand the offense of using "males" and "females". The military uses those terms exclusively in order to desexualize the genders, as well as to avoid regional conflicts (different regions will find "woman" and "lady" offensive, for example).
[–]StormTAG 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Seduction is based on psychology. Psychology is science. I'm sorry that people utilizing psychology to bring about more positive results (most often for both parties) makes you feel less human, but know that the majority of us do not intend it that way. I would assert that the majority of us use these terms not intending to dehumanize the people we interact with but to better express ourselves to our peers, who share our understanding of the terms.
There are assholes and exemplars in every group ever. You're absolutely going to find assholes here who use the applied psychology tricks detailed here to detrimental ends. However, like every tool, you should blame the person using the tool, not the tool itself. To your credit, that is what you seem to be doing, even if I personally feel your objections are disproportionate.
[–]choc_is_back 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"she acts this way because ________, this is how you can counter/avoid/whatever it"
The problem is though, verrrry often this is actually true. It's painful to realize how much people will act the same, and of course we all are individuals, but in general many people will have verrrry similar tendencies, motivations, ways of reasoning, etc etc... It is why the entire field of psychology can exist.
Also, the closer you get to 'primitive' thoughts/behavior (hungry people will crave food), the more universal these things tend to be. Now, well, attraction is pretty 'primitive'. So there. Nothing holds true 100% of the cases, but a statement like 'people tend to attach more value to something that is hard to get, and less to something they already can get in abundance' is simply very often true.
It hurts, it stings a bit to be part of the 'analyzed' group because you feel like it does not take into account your individuality. But it's ok, we are all still individuals, even though we are all also verrry prone to certain behaviors.

Thank you for this great post. It's put to words a few things I was feeling about this sub, and while I do think this sub is absolutely sexist, I actually don't think it's bad, at least if taken in the right contexts. It's kind of like how in physics you start out figuring things out in a perfect world, then you add in complexities as you see fit.
So a lot of this objectification is really just to get people of the type that usually frequent seddit to see how attraction works. Even the judging by appearance thing, is just isolating the physical attractiveness from the mental ones (this is one of the reasons I'm not a fan of the HB ratings, it takes away this element of isolation). Then, as they get more of a feel for the real world, you start throwing in personalities and the "humanity" behind the kind of "action/reaction" conversation that goes around here and it becomes a more complete picture. I think I speak for a lot of people on seddit where the "whole enchilada" approach just never worked for them in the first place. Even objectified FRs are just boiling down their interactions to terms that others on seddit can understand. How is the guy in question supposed to convey how "well" he knows the woman in question when the main object of this sub is how the guy acts and how the woman acts?
I agree, however, that a lot of sedditors (and guys in general) never get to that second part and stick with the first, so they just end up being sexist. My main point being is that while the conversation on seddit may be sexist, this is for a purpose and just arises out of the very nature of the sub, and may not indicate that members are sexist themselves.
[–]Raeko 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, a few people have brought up the point that a lot of people sort of "grow out of" this mindset once they actually start interacting with people in the real world and better understand how social interaction works. I think that this is definitely a possibility.
[–]Lead ModeratorThrowawayPUA 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
You are misinterpreting what you see in seddit. It is possible to objectify behaviors without objectifying the person doing the action.
[–]Raeko 8 points9 points10 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Except it's not if there is a person behind those behaviours. If you are talking about people/behaviours in a broad general sense you'd be right, but in "field reports" or things like that where you are talking about a specific person, that is not true.

Except that there's a person behind every piece of science. In a field report, you're focusing on what happened relating to seddit. If my field report consisted on the ingredients in the curry I ate before I went out, or how the sofas in the club felt, it wouldn't be relevant. Similarly, telling seddit irrelevant details about a girl's personality is irrelevant too, because a field report details the important psychological markers one encountered, and how different responses affected them.
[–]agentdynamo 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah or if they just said " dress nice be attractive, worked for me" may not help ha
[–]ass_fungus 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They're called "field reports," because they are meant to be exactly that. I agree with you that sexism exists in the pickup community, but I don't buy your argument that women are "dehumanized" simply because PUAs treat interactions scientifically.
[–]Lead ModeratorThrowawayPUA 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you believe that behavioral psychology can only be applied to broad masses of people in a statistically verifiable manner, then you're denying that psychology can be applied to individuals. That is ludicrous.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago* (17 children) | Copy Link
Well r/pickup and r/seduction is practically a science. Just as there is a scientific method for doing science, there is a general state of flow when doing pickup.
By building these frameworks you kind of have to remove personalities and egos from what you're doing in order get the formula correct. When you do things start feeling natural.
[–]WolfInTheField 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
While this is a good explanation of why we talk like that, it doesn't make Raeko's points any less valid. The consequences are still the same.
[–]dontneednomedication 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
why is /r/pickup banned?
[–]MonkeySteriods 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
They kept spamming members of this subreddit.
[–]skcin7 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Indeed. I would literally get a PM every few days that said nothing except "r/pickup" as if I was supposed to go there as a result. And I don't even post in /r/seduction that often.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I really don't know. They had alot of good material in that subreddit. And the people were really down the earth. Also their sidebar had lots of really good info.
I've heard lots of rumors but nothing had been confirmed.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
They were spamming people with pms.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Well that's sad. I wished the mods at least archived the subreddit instead of shutting it down. There was an incredible amount of good info there.
Also I would not have discovered it, if they had not sent me a PM.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It goes beyond the fact that they were just spamming people. They were defaming the mods here and making claims about them that weren't true.
Yeah I got a PM and subscribed but I never really read any of the material. Honestly I haven't read much of the material in seddit's sidebar either. I get that keyboard jockeying gets subscribers but real seduction is done in with real people in the field. The more people you talk to and the more you talk to people the better you get at talking to people.
They sent me like 5 PMs total though.
Nobody PMs me with spam!...this womps

You're on crack if you think those faggots fucking dipshit losers were down to Earth. I don't speak ill of many people, especially ones I've never met and have no right to judge, but seriously, fuck those guys. They came in and tried to shit on everyone else while only providing value in a way that benefited them. They spammed the shit out of every user on Seddit and other places around Reddit and generally conducted themselves with the class and maturity of a 6 year old retard (and that might be insulting to the child).
It's unfortunate they decided to act in such a way as you are correct, their content was actually half decent, to say the least.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I know it's nitpicky, but I really have a problem with the use of the word faggot.
[–]ImKumarYo 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My apologies, I only use that word when I really get worked up as it bothers my sister very much as well (who is an advocate of gay rights). I'll edit it out.

Sorry for this tiny rain cloud of rationality on your parade >>
Thank you for explaining the "females" thing better than I ever could have. It's abundant all over reddit but I think it's particularly detrimental to seddit's reputation because I think a proper understanding of seduction techniques is so important for success in all aspects of life. Seduction is really just learning to interact with people so that they're attracted to you, not necessarily sexually but also in friendly or professional ways.
[–]skcin7 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thank you for your great post.
I hope you realize that many of the men here have had little success with women in their lives despite constantly trying and they don't understand why their methods don't work, so they have to study it from a scientific standpoint for a while until they figure out how it all works, then as they start doing things over and over again they begin to realize that in order for it to best work you need to make a legitimate connection to a woman's emotions and that everything has to be 100% natural.
This is what happened with me, anyway.
Most posters also seem to forget that women are individuals and do not all act exactly the same
The basic premise of "classic" pickup is the necessity of doing dozens of 'approaches' every single week in order to build up skill and have the odds play out in your favor. It's a game of statistics where (at least as a novice) you apply a basic formula many many times, until it finally works. Even "pros" are still playing a game of odds, it's just that their chances of 'scoring' in each individual attempt are much higher.
It may sound offending, but every single one of us - male or female - fits some sort of a statistic. Age, race, height, favorite TV show, best pickup tactics, all of us fit in there somewhere. And just because the combination of the elements of your personality is unique doesn't mean that no generalization could ever apply to you as an individual.

as objects that are yours to control and use as you desire
if i view all people, not just women, like that - as in - i see all people as merely objects to manipulate and use to my own ends - it doesn't count as sexist, does it? That would keep me in the clear, right?
[–]Raeko 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That makes you a sociopath, I think (somebody with a bit more knowledge in this subject want to confirm?)
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
What effect does being a sociopath have? Are there legal consequences?
[–]Raeko -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes, if you act violently toward other people (sociopaths often do). If you use people as objects you're usually willing to rape or otherwise physically assault people which would obviously hold legal consequences.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Well I don't rape or physically assault people because of the dire social and legal consequences. Also if you think about it they're both very inefficient and unsophisticated ways to meet intended ends.
Oh and I love that you automatically assume rape and physical violence as soon as I say I manipulate people.

wow this blew my mind! But you are right I just never put thought into the words used here (FR, females). Wonder what the possibility is of changing the FR to another name.
[–]puaCurveBall 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link
A rose by any other name.... you can't be sexist/ not be sexist purely by the words you use, that is silly talk.
[–]Raeko 8 points9 points10 points 13 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link
Err maybe not, but the words you choose to use can display whether you are sexist/not sexist. In the case of /r/seduction, the generally accepted terms display a generally sexist attitude.
I'm starting to really dig your train of thought on all this
[–]puaCurveBall -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link
Boo hoo, I'm not going to be guilted into changing my words just because someone goes out of their way to find it offensive. I'm not sexist and I (or the subreddit) don't have to change to "prove" that.
[–]Raeko -9 points-8 points-7 points 13 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link
I'm not sexist
I somehow have trouble believing that :)
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
Not that CurveBall needs it, but I'm going to stand up for him here. Have you read ANY of his materials on this subreddit? Because he's a constant friend to women. He goes out of his way to stop people when they try to slut-shame or white-knight, for example. And he, like a LOT of PUAs, understands that women are just as entitled to want sex as men are. The ironic thing is that I see a lot of feminists who look at that behavior and call it sexist, which is downright hilarious, because in the end, feminists seem to HATE it when we treat them just as we would treat a guy.
I try my very best in everything I post here not to be sexist. I call out bad behavior when I see it and I really despise using double standards. And it bothers me when people call me sexist just because I'm in the pickup community.
[–]Raeko -3 points-2 points-1 points 13 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
I have never met a real feminist who is not sex-positive. That means that they believe women have the right to have just as much or as little sex as they personally want to.
Using sexist language is being sexist. If puaCurveBall is not a sexist person, then why does he promote sexist ideas by using these terms?
[–]ryanhg80 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I have never met a real feminist who is not sex-positive.
I agree with just about everything you've said in this thread so far, but I wanted to point something out with this. In the same way that you can say that you've never met a real X that is not Y, I can say I've never met a real PUA who is sexist. It's just a little too "no true Scotsman".
Just as we can't decide who or what a PUA is outside of how they identify themselves, the same goes for feminists. I've met a few who would identify themselves as strongly feminist and found it abhorrent that I was, to use their term, a womanizer (as if that made me evil). It never made sense to me, that they would assume that simply because I really just wanted to have sex, that I must also think of those I have sex with as objects. The assumption was also implicit that the women I was having sex with 'must have wanted more'. Don't get me wrong, I've met a ton of feminists (and women who don't identify as feminist as well) that acknowledge that sex is just cool, and nothing wrong happens when penises and vaginas go on adventures together.
[–]Raeko 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You're right, that statement is purely anecdotal. Perhaps I should have been more clear: I personally have never met a feminist who wasn't sex-positive, and I know from my knowledge of feminism in general that allowing women to have control over their own bodies is a pretty central component. Feminism's stance on sex is "as long as everybody consents, it's all good".
I think the reason those people would be upset at you participating in the seduction community is not the idea itself, but the way the community tends to act and present itself. There are a lot of sexists who participate and some sexist ideas are highly praised within the community. It could be the case that they unfairly lumped you in with other people that they have had negative experiences with.
It is also possible that they truly detest the idea of women having casual sex, but in that case I would be extremely hesitant to call them feminists.
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Can you provide examples of his actual sexism? All he said in the previous post was that he wasn't going to change his language to suit your requirements—we haven't established whether or not he's actually using the terms that you have a problem with. I don't see anything in his or your comments that has established him as a true sexist.
[–]cron_nin -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Sorry, but I think i'm going to jump in here. I don't feel that calling him sexist really solves anything. It's just that when a woman states" We, generally do not want to be called females because we feel it is degrading, or ever derogatory" continues to use it, it was just a form of disrespect. It's kind of like saying "i don't care if it's offensive, I'm gonna keep using it."
And no I'm not calling him sexist, but on this one, he's participating in actions that could lead someone to believe that he is sexist.

I have not used any racist terminology in any posts I've made, nor have I defended the use of such terms. puaCurveBall defended the use of sexist terms, and even if he is not a sexist himself, he is promoting sexism by promoting this language (though I can't see why anyone who is not a sexist would promote sexist language).

You sound like you are a female woman :), and a feminist. I am curious, how did you happen onto this thread?
[–]Raeko 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
I am a woman and a feminist! I am subscribed to this subreddit and saw this thread on the front page. I usually do not post.
[–]Planned_Serendipity 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I subscribe because I am pretty introverted and use this as motivation to help me come out of my shell. Again, curiosity, why do you subscribe?
I answered MonkeySteriods above^
I subscribe because I am interested in the community. I find that there is a lot of sexism floating around, and sexism/gender issues are a bit of a passion of mine. I also enjoy explaining feminist concepts to people, so when a thread like this pops up every now and again I am able to shed some light onto the sexism issues and (hopefully) help some people out.
[–]Planned_Serendipity 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well thanks for your post, it was tactful and contributed to the discussion.
[–]Manhack 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
May I ask why you subscribe to r/sed? I'm glad you offered your opinion and I think it is a pretty realistic standpoint, although it depicts a misrepresentation of the subreddit; the truth is a lot more complicated and unfortunately it is not immediately apparent.
I delved into the seduction community very cautiously and deliberately. Basically I did not like the language and mentality that I saw, but obviously I liked the content. So I figured I would internalize what I could use while discarding the sexist objectifying crap. But after a few nights out I kind of got it; field reports aren't just stories that sexist douchebags are telling, they are accounts of experiences with all of the irrelevance and "human" portions that internet randoms will not care about cut out, so they READ like sexist objectifying crap.
I do not claim to be a PUA and there could be lots of sexist douchebags out there who are part of seddit, but this is an instance in which you cannot judge a book by its cover. Lots of us just want to improve our lives and enjoy the company of awesome women without blubbering like an idiot or otherwise losing their interest, and lots of us figured out how to be a stronger, more positive person on the way.

[–]MonkeySteriods -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
If you dislike the setup so much, why subject yourself to torture everyday... or do you enjoy it? :P
[–]Raeko 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I guess I enjoy it, haha. I am always open and willing to give a feminist perspective and explain feminist ideas to anyone who asks for it. If a question like this pops up and I am able to answer it, I think it's for the best! A lot of people just never think about these things and me giving a simple explanation can sometimes clarify things for them.
[–]MonkeySteriods -3 points-2 points-1 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Naughty! :)
Outside of this case. [Which was perfectly relivant, despite the disagreement] Why do you think that people care about hearing what a feminist thinks? To me it seems that feminists try to push the whole "sexist" label as to invoke some kind of white-guilt like response.
I have lots of opinions on why my choice of car/transport/air-carrier is better than others, but I don't try to push that on anyone else.
[–]Raeko 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I only respond with a feminist viewpoint when it is appropriate.
People should care because sexism affects everyone. As a woman, when someone objectifies women or makes a frightening joke or whatever, I feel threatened personally and it makes me uncomfortable. This doesn't happen as often on the internet unless someone says something truly horrible, but even minor "jokes" and things like that are often indicative of a larger sexist attitude. By letting people know "Hey, that thing you just said was probably hurtful to people", I am hopefully giving them something to think about so they can prevent hurting other people in the future.
[–]MonkeySteriods -2 points-1 points0 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
[Should we take this to PMs? since its really out of scope?]
So you're trying to fight for how you think other people may feel? When you talk about women being tought of as sexual things. [Objectification] That it works both ways, men are judged on their "worthiness" by women, and that evaluation is even shared within their groups as well. [Thats 'objectification' but without a focus on leading to sex, more of a focus on leading to relationships with others] To me the later seems worse, you're affecting the guy's ability to meet people.
[–]Raeko -2 points-1 points0 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
People who judge other people on "worthiness" (usually based on skills, assets, etc) are not objectifying them. Objectifying occurs when you DON'T take any personal qualities into account and see someone as just an object (using someone just for their looks counts, even though that is OK to do sometimes when both parties consent).
[–]MonkeySteriods 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I was referring to "creaper" comments, suggesting that guys are undatable if their clothing isn't fashionable, etc.
So you just set the bar at "skills, assets" as something thats not objectifying, but someone else's opinion of attractivness is? The whole worthiness bit that I was referring to suggestions that you're making a comparision when shopping.
Consider the general audience finding their way here. Unconfident, insecure, sexually repressed boys. Boys that don't understand women at all, and are often times afraid of them. Boys that think avoiding sexuality and avoiding expressing their sexuality is more respectful to show the woman that they value her personality; which tends to lead to unexciting conversation. I would wonder if women often, if ever, consider the fact that a lot of boys are afraid of women. Looking back on who I was and looking at who I am now. The me now would consider the me a year ago a boy and the me now a man.
I'm going to present a metaphor.
Building confidence
Imagine for instance that you were going to be forced into a sword fight in the near future. Now some people would want to jump right in and start fighting people with wooden swords for practice. Others would want to study fighting stances, understand the different attributes of swords, understand what techniques are best in what situations. Now what is the woman in this metaphor, well she is the opponent. (I realize this seems like I'm setting up an adversarial relationship; but lets finish the metaphor first)
Practicing and reinforcing the confidence
So now armed with some knowledge the people that wanted to study sword fighting before jumping in now go in with wooden swords because they have a foundation to stand on that gives them the confidence they didn't have to jump straight in. Well, these guys are probably going to get beat up their first few times despite their knowledge, but it doesn't discourage them as much because they know how to fix their weaknesses; and they have come to view it as just practice. Eventually they get better at what they are doing, their confidence grows in their abilities and they get more daring with their techniques.
Making it a genuine personal interaction
They get to the point where they pretty much know sword fighting in and out. How do they get better from here? Well now it's time to understand their opponents to make it personal, to know what they are going to do, to predict movements and act accordingly without hesitation, it becomes a dance, a flirting of swords. The sword fighting becomes personal as you come to understand your opponent as an individual sword fighter, different movements, difference grace and tactics than all the rest, but still fighting you with a sword.
Then I ask you. What is more exhilarating than sparing back and forth with somebody that is on your level; somebody that doesn't destroy you effortlessly but continues to challenge you? Because during that spar you begin to respect the other person and in the end win or lose you're glad you went up against that person; you both are better for it. This is how I see flirting, and how I think i was able to get better at it. The only difference is that with flirting and attraction both people can win, or tie, except this tie is like kissing somebody that is not your sister.
Generally guys that have not really had a lot of luck with women, that simply have never had the chance to develop the confidence to be themselves in a way that attracts women find themselves coming to seddit for guidance. Which is exactly what is going on here. Guidance; not "do this and magical stuff happens." Anyways when those "magic" things appear if you actually read them what is really going on is more "Hey this situation happened and I was able to handle it like this; you should take the underlying lesson here and understand when to apply it so that when/if it happens in real life the situation doesn't completely knock you on your ass.
For me personally what basically happened when I read The Game and branched out from there, seddit being one branch. I began to better understand women, which made it easier for me to empathize with them, not manipulate them. That's what this is all really about, a better understanding of the other sex which would otherwise only come from experience and time spent among the other sex. To which I say again, the guys generally finding their way here do not have the option of spending time with the other sex IT'S NOT AN OPTION. Because quite honestly their inability to be comfortable around women makes women uncomfortable around them. Which only reinforces further that women will reject them.
Generally introverts, generally people that like to "think before they leap;" are helped by this subreddit. Which is also quite possibly a characteristic that prevented them from simply walking up to that girl they had a crush on when they were younger and instead shy'd away because they couldn't begin to understand what would happen when they talked to her. Seddit is teaching people to just jump and do the best they can to land until they get better. Other kids their age jumped right in, made fools of themselves and learned from it doing it many times. They learned early instinctively that they were on equal footing with girls. Lots of people here learned early that the girls they liked were unobtainable. Unobtainability moved women up onto a pedestal and from there women become objects.
Now the thing that can really scare somebody with no confidence is going in without at least a plan. Harp about how terrible it is, but starting out you need to disconnect yourself from situation outcome. That does unfortunately mean learning to not see the girl as a dynamic individual and as more of something static that they can understand. Objectifying? Right now maybe. In the beginning confidence building stages; allowing the interactions to be personal and real is going to be too much pressure and all the more defeating instead of educating when things go bad. Instead of learning from the situation it's just more soul crushing rejection. Disconnect from the situation and you're able to gather courage and go for it again and again, each time getting a little further, getting a little more comfortable, and being more of a pleasantry for the girl instead of feeling like an inconvenience to her.
TLDR: Not seeing a woman as an individual is a necessary evil to grow and learn from a quest of rejection, awkwardness and embarassment as one slowly gains inner confidence and an empathizing understanding of women to better relate to them. Once one is able to relate with women with confidence is when they stop seeing women as objects and start seeing individuals. Once they arrive here they will begin screening and rejecting/accepting women based on her individual traits. They will become more socially savvy and women will by default be more comfortable around them and perceive them as more fun to be around.
EDIT: Some formatting, no content.

Well, that is a personal characteristic that you have. I don't think it's fair to assume that all people who use "females" instead of "women" aren't native English speakers. Most people who use it either have thinly veiled sexist attitudes or just don't realize what they are doing because they'd never thought about it.
As for yourself, now you know that "women" is a better term!

Meaning that we don't care a lot when there's a bit of sexism in a post.
we don't care a lot when there's a bit of sexism
You just explained that not only does obvious sexism occur in this subreddit, but, as a community, you're apathetic to it. This is exactly why people think r/seduction is predominantly sexist.
Raeko commented in a thread that specifically asked why people assume this subreddit is sexist with a thought out and honest answer that makes plausible sense.
If you don't want want to read explanations of why people think this subreddit is sexist, don't read, vote, or comment in thread that exists precisely to offer explanations of why people think this subreddit is sexist. It's that easy. Now have a good day.
[–]EmilBarrit 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
How was that sexist in any way? He just said it like it is, content is more important here, than the words used. If something comes off as sexist, then you're looking for it.
This sub-reddit is mostly about self-improvement more than just the women, as many posts here states: This place is about becoming a better person to everyone, the women are just a bonus.
[–]Raeko 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
If that was really what the subreddit is about, why is it called "seduction"? Why isn't it called "self-improvement" or "life-changers" or something? Stop pretending that this subreddit isn't about seduction, and that it doesn't attract people who are interested in picking up women.
[–]MonkeySteriods 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This subreddit has an overall theme of becoming more attractive and learning how to communiate what you want to the opposite sex. The self-help community is focused on motivating people to change, but never actually helping them change.
[–]EmilBarrit 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's so much more than that, people just look at it as if it was only about coning women into sleeping with you, it isn't. It's about making yourself more attractive to women.
I'm the perfect example.. I just got out of a 2½ year relationship and had no idea how to talk to women anymore, so i basically ended up just staying in my room alot of the time. Then i found seddit, and i tought me and motivated me to be a more outgoing person, also i learned that people will actually like me for who i am, if i really put myself out there, as opposed to what i thought!
Recently i've been watching alot of RSDTylers youtubevideos on this subject, and most of his videos is about what you have got to do to be all the you, you can be, and about actually getting your shit together, because you acutally can if you just get off your lazy ass!
Seddit is all this and about teaching guys like me how to be more attractive to women, so i won't end the fuck up all alone, which was THE biggest fear i've ever had, and i had it for about 3 months before finding Seddit.

I'm really confused about why you have a problem with guys wanting to learn how better to pick up girls. Yes, it's called seduction because originally, pickup literature was all geared toward tactics and gambits that would make women more receptive.
Nowadays, though, a lot of the lit has changed more to fit the notion that if you have your life in order and you're confident in who you are, you're gregarious and fun, and you aren't afraid to tell women people what you want from them, attracting women comes as part of that. It's about getting the girl, certainly, but it's also about getting everything else.
I'll be perfectly honest: I joined this subreddit because I was interested in finding out why I wasn't getting the women I liked to be attracted to me as well. And it turned out that my AFC nice-guy sensibilities were sabotaging me. So I changed them. And my female friends (NB: I say female because using "girl friends" is too easily misconstrued) would tell you to a one that I am now more fun to be around, I'm more flirty, self-confident, and overall better company. And not a single one of them would call me sexist.

So true.. I stopped caring about most self-proclaimed feminists a loooong time ago, sometimes (stereotype) they really go out of their way to find anything to call sexism! Its getting ridicolous..

Upvoted for interesting discussion, although I disagree with 80% of what you said. Not using names protects anonymity. I actually find the girlblogger style of nicknaming guys more demeaning. Talking about how to win a specific girl is useless, but women in general have a lot of common traits. Identifying differences between genders is not sexist

This is the first time I've ever heard in my life that the term "female" is now politically incorrect. Seriously? I use the term "male" just as often, but that's completely ok? What has happened to this world?
[–][deleted] 95 points96 points97 points 13 years ago* (72 children) | Copy Link
Yep. I tried to help some people (men) who have had bad luck and post on /r/amiugly, and while some have responded positively to me, I saw a post from /r/foreveralone recently that shows people bashing us, calling us rapists and liars, exactly what you are talking about. I have a few theories:
A. Women probably hate seddit because it makes them feel out of control. Which they are (men are too). This is really a more philosophical point, but everyone bows to the commands their neurological programming gives to them, regardless of how "in tune" they think they are. Despite this, women don't like feeling like men can control them so easily. No one likes that feeling.
B. It's also possible that women see this as a threat to their control over us. After all, all they have to do is hint at sex, and suddenly they get free drinks, money, food, man servants, etc. Seddit gets men out of the friendzone and implictly helps them realize when they're being yanked around.
C. Some men reject seddit because they are chivalrous morons who think that it will make them more attractive to have "principles." Idiots. I hate these kind of "white knight" jackasses more than almost any other group on the planet. We're not about objectifying women - seddit is about understanding what "being human" implies and using it to your advantage. And furthermore, being openly chivalrous is the number one signal that you're a beta male looking for attention. If you have strong beliefs on what you should do in the presence of women, fine - have them. But publicly broadcasting them is analogous to saying, "hey, I'm like the typical mold of guys who will subjugate themselves to women, because I do what my society, culture and species tell me to do. Please feel free to walk all over me!" Of course women like chivalrous men - I like easy math problems to which the solution is obvious at the start.
D. Aside from all of that, I feel like we kind of get a kneejerk reaction from people because we are seen as con artists. I don't mind the title, even though it is misleading.
The bottom line is this, my friend - the human attraction selection process is a system that is subconciously ingrained into our brains. People do not like their worlds being shaken up or challenged, so when we present this revolutionary worldview that challenges what people are used to, they get upset. Really upset. They will try to fight us, because the weak are always terrified of the strong. They will fight to protect their bad ideas of what mom and dad told them about nice guys finishing first and having a good heart, and until they are ready to accept a scientific mindset that allows them to see the world as it is, they will confront us at every turn, determined to maintain the status quo.

Really? You think that covers all cases? Let's be realistic, how about
E. There are people on this subreddit and in the PUA scene in general who just want to routines, pickup lines, and schemes to get women to sleep with them. They aren't interested in becoming a better, more attractive person, they just want a magic pill or shortcut to get their dick wet with minimal effort. This is what people think of when they look at this subreddit.
Certainly there's many, maybe even a majority of the people here, who are actually interested in attracting women by becoming a better person, but it's quite understandable that people don't see that from the outside looking in. I think that many people here on the inside still don't see that.
[–]CluEleSs_UK24 points 13 years ago [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link
But with everything there are those people:
r/fitness - there are dedicated athletes, and there are those that want the quick ticket to getting ripped
r/starcraft - there are hardcore players, there are guys that haven't played in a year who want to stir drama and complain
It'd be pretty ridiculous to claim seddit is the only place where those juxtapositions occur

When did I claim that seddit is the only place where it occurs...?
I never said or implied that. I never made any kind of comparison between seddit and other subreddits.
What you're doing is trying to compare someone looking for a magic pill to make women sleep with them to someone trying to build up their own body (focused on changing/transforming themselves, which would be the "good" side of seddit) and people "stirring drama" about e-sports. I never made any comparisons whatsoever, but yours are seriously flawed.
[–]lingual_panda20 points 13 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link
Is there really anything wrong with someone just wanting to get their dick wet if it's mutually consensual? Sometimes women just want to be fucked. Sometimes we want to be courted and made love to and treated "properly", but sometimes we just want to ride some dick.
I think a lot of the white knight issues with seddit is that they think women are helpless beings who never want raunchy impromptu hookups and they need to be protected from being conned into this kind of sex from dirty pervy guys.
When in reality women want to be made to feel attractive. We want witty banter and sexy kino and a good fuck. Maybe not all of us, and maybe not all the time, but it's deeply imbedded into our subconcious to want that sort of attention (and I don't mean this in a evolutionary psych pseudo-science kind of way).
[–]ARealSocialIdiot 10 points11 points12 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I feel the need to point out that talking about sex in the aspect of "getting fucked" is subtly (if almost definitely unintended) sexist. A more accurate and feminist-friendly way to say it would be "sometimes women just want to fuck." Saying it the other way lends the implication that women are simply allowing sex to happen TO them and not taking an active role in it.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's funny cause I'm a woman and a feminist (and a linguist!). You're right about the language. I think I'm sort of expressing how I approach sex and dating and seduction. It usually works out better to let the guy give chase a little because then it's more exciting and interesting for him.
But I do a lot of the work during sex so I guess I'm doing a lot of the fucking. But most of the time when I want dick I want the guy to do the work haha.
I should not be typing this from inside this office...

You're a feminist and you don't see any problems with the userbase in seddit?
There are problems with all of reddit's userbase. Seddit is better than /r/pics and /r/wtf and /r/videos. Have you been to askreddit? It's bad everywhere.
Once the AFCs figure out that it's about self-improvement and not date rape I think they might end up having more respect for women. Women want quality guys and seduction teaches guys how to present themselves as quality.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
Most of their romance/sex problems come from poor social skills and a lack of confidence. If you're good with people in general, you're probably going to be good at talking to women, too.
If learning about seduction helps you, and you have a healthy attitude about people, then maybe it can't hurt - but I have a hard time believing that's the best way to address those problems. The whole approach is disturbing, to be honest. Especially concepts like negging and LMR.
Plus, the idea that you can get someone into bed by following some kind of code isn't grounded in reality. It strikes me as a bunch of guys who are trying to rationalize something that can't be rationalized.
How often do people encourage negging here though? And LMR is something I want to look into more.
The techniques aren't what seduction is about, they're just training wheels for people who need them. Seduction is an attitude. It's an approach to life. It's being a person of value and demonstrating that value in various social settings.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
How often do people encourage negging here though?
too often.
It's being a person of value and demonstrating that value in various social settings.
What does being a person of value have to do with seduction? Sex shouldn't be seen as a reward for being a better person, and that's the idea this subreddit perpetuates.
It also implies that people who don't have sex have less value than those who do- which is exactly how patriarchy wants men to see themselves.
I'm reading the FAQ right now, and it's giant pile of traditionalist, gender-policing bullshit.
I just realized I've probably never read the FAQs. I should do that soon.
Also being a person of value isn't about having sex, it's about making people want to be around you. Lots of times people accomplish this by throwing money around but this is really where a great personality shines.
[–]CampHope 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think the problem that people see with seddit is that people want to get their dick wet. Everyone does. The reason why there's negative connotations towards this scene is because some would rather put up a facade of who they are in order to do it rather than working on bettering themselves. There's an element of untruth or deception to it.
It that a fair criticism? Maybe not; why do we have different feelings about Ryan Goslin being sexy and confident and picking up women and someone on here learning methods to do the same thing in order to sleep with women? I don't have the answer, but I know it has to do with deception (or perceived deception).
I don't think people can pretend like all of this is rediculous and untrue, regardless of how deep you are into the scene. Would you tell your family that you're studying to be a PUA? Would you tell it to a female you just met, "Hey I study PUA techniques, nice to meet you". Of course you wouldn't, because now they're going to assume you're a bullshitter who will say anything to get laid.
Now, you could argue that the reason why people aren't open about it is because there's an unfair and untrue bias that exists, and not because there's something inherently seedy or deceptive about the techniques. Obviously that's a question you'd have to answer for yourself.
That's their choice to use the skills of a "PUA" their own way. When i learned about "PUA" techniques and stuff all I wanted to do was get laid. I then matured and learned that just being with women and talking to them and stuff was just as fun as having sex with them. I promise if you learn the secrets of being a "PUA" it won't just help you with women it will help you out in all parts of your life. These are skills that help your overall life and how you use these skills are your choice.

Heaven help that anyone should ever want consensual sex! Man, sometimes I wonder whose side feminists who criticize us are really on. It's disgustingly horrible that we would respect a woman's body enough to appeal to her sense of attraction, but it's simultaneously the end of the world when conservatives and right wingers try to get in the way of sexual freedom.
Not saying you are a feminist or anything, but seriously - what is the problem with just having consensual sex? How does that hurt women?
[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm not sorry that I really want to get to know a girl with big tits and a nice body more than an ugly girl with a great personality. If that is being sexist, and having consensual sex with her and great big tits makes me sexist, then by all means call me a sexist who likes great big tits.

I agree with everything but it's not really 'scientific' approach until we get studies, surveys and experiments involved ...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
All scientific thinking requires is basing one's assumptions and models on data they gather. You don't have to be published or an expert on psychology. MM/Pickup is scientific because you calibrate and gather evidence, then base your methodology on said evidence, as opposed to the AFC approach where you pretend to know what's true and false based on assumptions, and then get angry when it doesn't work.
[–]CrazyWolf 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
Science requires significantly more than that. Science uses many techniques to correct for human error and biases, which PUA don't even try to do. Scientists don't just do an experiment a bunch of times, notice a trends as they are doing it, and jump to a conclusion. They would be (rightly) laughed at by other scientists.
Scientific PUA would be something like this:
That is how social psychology, considered one of the softest sciences, does things. I've never seen a PUA come anywhere close to that level of rigor. That doesn't mean that pickup artistry is wrong, it just means that it isn't a science.
TL;DR Pickup artistry isn't a science, but rather an art. It isn't nearly rigorous enough to ensure that your biases aren't injected into your conclusions; e.g. the placebo effect may make you more confident no matter which technique you use.

[–]choc_is_back -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
With the culture of requiring things exchanged to be tested, reported back etc etc with FR's - it's not scientifical in the typical sense, but it IS how science gathers knowledge as well.
You know how things like 'kino', 'talk to everybody' and 'always assume attraction' keep popping up? That's in part because there are fads (after all, 'negs' used to be like that and now nobody talks about them anymore), but also in part because they are confirmed to work over and over again.
true, but the knowledge by most part is anecdotal. I have to take half the stuff here with a pinch of salt because its too easy to fabricate a FR or exaggerate it and i'm pretty sure there will be some made up FR's between the real ones, but at what ratio? to what extent? impossible to tell
This makes the 'data gathered' pretty damn null.
I love this place and I constantly read it, and go over the tips and hints because its an extremely useful resource, but I don't consider it a scientific endeavour at all. I think the 'Artist' in PUA is pretty well suited.

[–]arienh412 points 13 years ago [recovered] (13 children) | Copy Link
Having been called a white knight too often for just disagreeing with the objectification of women, I am definitely not agreeing with you.
What I meant was that the fact that you said what you said is why people hate seddit.
The term white knight is a derogatory term for someone who has more morals than you. Think about that for a second.
"You're a morally better person than I am! I hate you!" is all I can think of when someone calls me a white knight.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 13 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Please define "morality." You used this word and I don't understand it, nor do I understand how "more" applies to it (if you're going to fire back that I'm nitpicking, notice that I don't use words that I don't understand).
"White knight" is a phrase I use implying despite the fact that no one has a decision algorithm called "morals" that is "superior to mine", they act like they have one anyway. You parade yourself as "being against the objectification of women." What the fuck does that even mean? "Object" is a near impossible word to define, but if it represents "things I come into contact with via the senses," then women ARE objects. Men ARE objects.
This whole "let's not objectify women" bullshit is exactly white knighting. Be more specific. What do you not like? That most PUAs respect womens' choices when they don't want to engage in sexual behavior? That we try to make women more attracted to us?
Don't be upset that we view this in a mechanical way. Women and men react to stimuli like objects or machines or whatever. We're not making anyone do anything against their will.

This much is obvious.
"White knight" is a phrase I use implying despite the fact that no one has a decision algorithm called "morals" that is "superior to mine", they act like they have one anyway.
A white knight is someone who is actually good. The word comes from the heroes of fairy tales. They represent everything that is good in the world, in a fairy tale world of course. So it can only be used negatively by the bad guys.
That most PUAs respect womens' choices when they don't want to engage in sexual behavior? That we try to make women more attracted to us?
I was referring to a specific incident where I was called a white knight. The person who called me one specifically didn't respect that choice.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[–]arienh44 points 13 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
I'm not claiming I do. I'm just saying that the meaning of the word white knight implies belief of lesser relative morality on behalf of the speaker.
[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I meant it as "get off your high horse, you're an animal like the rest of us and you look like an idiot," not "you're more moral than me and I dislike that."

[–]CrazyEddie041-3 points 13 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link
No, it's a derogatory term for someone who thinks he has more morals, when he doesn't. Acting like women deserve more courtesy than men just because they have an extra X chromosome isn't moral, and giving her everything she asks for doesn't make you some kind of champion.

Seddit gets men out of the friendzone and implictly helps them realize when they're being yanked around.
Women really hate that. If they believe they have you in the friend zone and you just two down the gauntlent and leave... You'd be amazed at how much that can upset them.
These guys hate to admit that their strategy has been wrong. Its the whole chacing losses on an investment.
Its viewed as emotional manipulation, and is somehow "wrong, " despite the intentions. People have weird views on relationships and how "they should be." Then they turn it arround and apply their view on others. Women use emotional manipulation all the time with men and women. Nothing is ever criticized about this.
I've tried both strategies in my lifetime. I am not a pick up artist, but I spent most of my 20s being a nice guy, moral, honest, appeasing, and kind to all women. Then I said, "Fuck it." What is the worst thing she can say to me, "No?" In three years, I banged 15 more broads, dated a few, and learned a hell of a lot more than I did being the nice guy. I stopped trusting other people's opinions, I lost 70 lbs, I changed my style, and I changed my life. I hardly apply any game when I am out, and I am 100% sure than you younger guys who apply your game get 15 chicks a month. That's not why I posted this though. I just dated a dr. in her 30s who had fake tits, a great body, and was awesome at first, but when she found out she could manipulate me, she did it anytime she could. I learned from that relationship. I started seeing a girl right after her, and she tried more of that shit, so I kicked her ass to the curb. Men get pussified because they allow it to happen. You want to be a pussy? Do things like a women tells you to do. You want to live your life happily and have amazing women in it, live your life like YOU should be--AS A MAN.

I'm glad you mentioned the chivalrous "White Knight" types. Basically, the lowly type that looks at you with skepticism when you tell them your aim is not a relationship, but sex. The kind of guys who hope and dream that they'll find this mythical good girl who they can settle down with, pump out children, and have a white picket fence to surround their perfect suburban homes. These men are blind and often hopelessly give up and refuse to take good advice. They also refuse to believe that women have a scandalous sexual side.

People often misunderstand this subreddit. Like r/nofap, seddit is all about becoming an incredible awesome person, becoming a better version of yourself, so that your happy with who you are. The "game" is the method to do this, which is basically having a good time with girls and especially with yourself. People think this subreddit teaches you to become a douche, who treats women like objects, when in reality it teaches you to have a good time with somebody. It's not like we're raping girls... o.O

Sadly this is all too true. Since seddit got shit loads more subscribers the quality of content has gone way down. People are just wanting quick ways to get laid, rather than ways to improve themselves as a person in the long run.
Most field reports use to be pretty in depth and informative. Often now they just basically read "HEY GUYS I FUCKED A HOT CHICK WOOOOO."

I originally thought this was a subreddit that was just about how to fuck all kinds of women and "creep" if you know what I mean. After being on here for awhile, I can see that the underlying message behind a lot of this stuff is to make YOU a better, more confident person overall. Most people don't see this and just immediately write off Seddit as a bad place.

I like the whole "self improvement" part of r/seduction. The look your best, feel great and have a good time part. However, some of the tactics/ strategy part of /r/seduction leaves me feeling slightly unclean. In /r/seduction you need to wade through slightly more bullshit to find the nuggets of gold that apply to you and fit your philosophy.
I read the "asking women out" thread in askreddit yesterday and it seeemed that a lot of people were confused about /r/seduction, possibly ignorance but possibly they just stumbled across the dodgier articles that I would ignore and disregard.
If any women were to read that thread they must surely see how dificult it is to go up and approach women. One lady said "I don't like to be complemented as it comes across as fake", another wanted to be complemented while another said "I want to be complemented on something obscure like my shoes". Anyone reading that thread and the number of differing opinions must show why there are 69,000 subscribers.
Sorry for the rambling.

Here is a repost of mine from a thread is askmen which is summarises my ultimately negative view of the whole PUA scene
...
(modern) PUA had innocent enough beginnings, essentially a bunch of (somewhat) anti-social men on IRC trading dating advice and trying to self improve. The problem came when certain members became very good, people like Mystery who for nearly ten years went out most nights a week and observed the guys successful at picking up women and copied it. When these successful people began to give advice was where it fell apart...
But the main people being tricked by PUA are the men carrying it out, it tricks them into being confident, gives them something to say in those situations they wouldn't have said anything, when they get blown off they don't blame their person they blame their use of the material and instead of taking it as a personal slight they bounce back and try again.
Remember the point of the Game is that half these PUA gurus were fantastic at initially attracting women, but utterly and completely failed at relationships.
Fundamentally I think it is quite an unhealthy way to go about meeting women.
I got exposed to PUA by a friend who was obsessed with the stuff, I think there is a glimmer of healthy knowledge/advice hidden in there and the intentions of most into it are innocent, but as it is it is a very flawed way of meeting women.

[–]WolfInTheField 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Mostly because we have a bad rep as manipulative assholes. Back in the mystery days, this was entirely justified. Nowadays, less.
That said, this thread is a fantastic circlejerk of justifications.
[–]gabriot 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I don't really see how it's changed. Sleeping with chicks who have boyfriends is constantly praised on this subreddit and if you offer any criticism you are written off as a "white-knight" and downvoted to obscurity.
[–]WolfInTheField 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It is? I haven't seen that a lot. If it's true that's really sucky, though. And it'd explain the aforementioned circlejerk.
I think in those cases the woman is generally blamed for the cheating. You're not cheating on her boyfriend; she is. You just used what you know to make yourself more attractive. Mileage may vary from FR to FR, though.
I have a friend who uses this sub, and he was a lot more cool and attractive before he used it because oh, imagine that - he was pretty cool just by being himself.
Clearly he was not cool just being himself if he felt the need to change. Just saying.
I think its stupid to change yourself for the sake of getting attention...
So do I, but it is one of the core ideas that today's society is built upon

2 things I severely dislike about seddit.
1- The overuse of confusing and unaccesible lingo essentially transforming seduction into an inorganic methodology with shitty buzzwords.
2- The profusion of what pretty much boils down to soft porn stories.
whats the difference between a guy who figured out how to act around women, and subsequently get with them at a young age, and a guy who did not but then wanted to learn it when he was older?
nothing. both men use the same techniques, but one spent a lot of time thinking about the mechanics and the why. while the other just kind of fell into it. if you've ever had a friend who was really good at picking up women before you were into this seduction thing, and you think back on the stuff they did, you will notice its all pretty much the same behavior.
Its a situation of "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch" there are A LOT of PUAs who are just angry assholes who are taking out said anger on women through manipulation. Then there are others who truly use this material to separate themselves from the societal model that dictates they should put all women on a pedestal, and all women are better than them.

I think the term "seduction" has a fairly negative connotation, I honestly think this subreddit is more about self-improvement.
Because "HB9," "obstacle," "bitch shield," etc...
Use the positive aspects of the game (charisma, social proof) and disregard the negative (putting people down, general coercion).
Women are people, but some in this community treat them like a video game boss.
[–]Butterbawlz 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm surprised anyone on here cares what other subreddits think
An asshole before learning pick up, is considered a "good guy".
An asshole after learning pick up, is an asshole.
What's the difference?
Exposure. Everybody in that person's close circle of friends knows he is an asshole. Learning pick up just let's everyone else know it too.
People will be an asshole/douche bag after learning pick up, only because they were one before learning.
This is where the hate comes from. People can not separate the 2.
I have meet more men looking for ways to find a long term relationship partner than men looking for a 1 night stand.

who cares about her, she is probably a 5/10!
No, seriously. Why do you even give a shit when you know how great some of the seddit posts are. Much about inner game and applied psychology for better quality of life and being a better human being. Which other subreddit has that?
People see us as voodoo hypnotic mysogynist manipulators.
And they don't want to acknowledge that human beings might respond to the same things on the whole.
They just mad because we're hogging all the chicks
Because they don't get it! And because many of the people on seddit actually don't get the whole concept either..its actually become a real big issue. Many on the site are very beginner and pick and choose a few concepts. They are still afc so the blind lead the blind.
[–]DvlsAdvc8 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Its not that people think seddit is cheating or even sexist... its that they think the point of seddit is to develop the skills of a player. Someone who isn't interested in relationships and whose interest in a woman is shallow. They hate the fact that there are psychological techniques and tactics to employ that can make you more appealling to a woman... and it violates the notion that you should nust be yourself. There is a sense that it is fake... Deception. Thats what is despised.
This is really an unfair generalization because everyone joins the pickup community for their own reasons.
Some people join because they want to become the best version of themselves. Some people are incredibly socially awkward and need some help understanding how to make friends and meet cool people without people looking at them like a freak. And some people are here because they want to fuck alot of women. Other people are here because they need help finding a woman for a long term relationship. And other people are here because they get alot of satisfaction from seducing woman out of existing relationships.
This community is incredibly diverse and we're very aware of this diversity. But just like every other community, the only thing outsiders hear about communities they are not a part of are the sensationalist and 'shocking' stories. People don't hear about how the majority of this community are just regular people here for legitimate self-improvement lessons.
And in my opinion of learning how to be competent in social settings is 'manipulation' than learning how to speak another language so you can speak to people from another country should also be considered manipulation. Nobody wants to be that awkward guy who has literally no idea what is being done or said around him.

[–]kamatres 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I will use analogy from "The Game", because most men in general are like Marko, who believe by just being nice and being yourself will eventually get them love of their life. We are brainwashed by our culture, magazines, movies to believe there is just one person in the world for you, which is obviously bullshit. Here on Seddit we tell men "Take control over your life, be best version of yourself, push your boundaries" because every woman wants best pair of genes for herself ( and very rightfully so). I think if anything we are very misunderstood by majority in what we are trying to do here, just browse other reddits and comments. They are filled with overweight guys, who masturbate all day, play video games and consider themselves "forever alone" and even though they feel bad and would like to change something, they are scared to leave their comfort zone. I'd help every and each one of those guys if they asked for my help because i was one of them not so long ago but i know it's futile because they will reject what i have to offer. I was also blaming whole world and everyone for bad things happening to me, for my girlfirend cheating on me, for my father stealing from me etc. And when i found Seddit i realised that it wasn't world that was at fault, it was me whole time because i lost control over my life. Now i know what i have to do to fix those things and who i want to be and how to get there. And you have to realise you can't help anyone if they don't want your help in the first place.

Imagine if you were an oil producer and I invented a free source of energy and went around giving them out to your customers. How would you feel about it?
The idea of sex as a commodity produced by women and consumed by men is one that we're socialized to believe. Seddit and the PUA community teach you that you can flip that model on it's head.
[–]UnapologeticalyAlive 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
What we do is examine the nuts and bolts of human interraction in such a way that it becomes understandable and demystified. Some people just don't like it because they prefer to be mystified.
Also, guys employ cognitive dissonance to give themselves a million excuses for not getting women. The seduction community tells them their excuses are bullshit. They don't want to hear it, because if they consider the possibility that their excuses are bullshit, they would have to consider the possibility that their lack of success with women actually is their fault. And that's a grim reality that a lot of guys simply cannot face.
[–]PUAdept 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Fight club is an overused analogy, but probably accurate. Most women don't understand the need for male spaces, some even feel threatened by it. The other point is no one wants to see how the sausage is made. Most women like being seduced, but they want it to feel "natural" as if it was predestined. Breaking the game down shines a light on it and can make it seem less romantic.
I think some of the communities terminology is an outdated throwback to a sleazier era but I guess I don't care what anyone thinks anyway. The point is, this stuff works and changes lives for both men and women. If someone wants to label it as sexiest and manipulative without bothering to understand what it's all about then let them.
The funny thing is that anyone endeavoring to improve their lives inevitably runs across the same philosophies and principles. This may start out as trying to figure out women but quickly opens the door to much deeper questions and issues of personal growth - the same shit that Ekhart tolle talks about in his books. Ultimately, inner peace is what we're all chasing.
[–]Desmadre 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have this buddy and while he doesn't hate seduction per say he wants nothing to do with it. For example anytime I read about some useful information the first thing I want to do is share it with my close friends, but every time I try to have a discussion about it he brushes it off like he won't even listen to it.
I remember after reading The Game and Mystery Method I told him to check em out and his response was "I don't need to learn or change anything, im good the way I am I don't need a book." I feel that some people feel (my friend included) that the core of seduction is ultimately trying to change you/challenge your identity but thats not the case at all.

People assume this subreddit is all about picking up girls and fucking them senseless. While there is an element of truth to that, it's more about self improvement and appearing more likeable to females (and males too, though I hope you're not all touchy with your bros).

[–]campushippo 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is only conjecture, but perhaps it has something to do with the PUA vibe associated with this subreddit (what can I do to manipulate this female into sleeping with me?).
[–]IP3R2KO1 points 13 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
The thing is, there's this notion in society that we're not supposed to talk about picking up girls. We need to have some "excuse" to talk to girls, and of course we should never think about having sex with them. That should just happen spontaneously when we meet the right person, right?
Sigh. If you want to get good at something, you practice it. When (and if) you ever meet the one you're gonna want to be comfortable talking to girls, right? Then fucking practice. If, however, you just want to use your game to get laid as much as possible, go right ahead. I can only bestow upon you this tool, I can't tell you how to use it. Also, I don't particularly care.
The thing is, there's this notion in society that we're not supposed to talk about picking up girls.

Lack of principals and "morals", is why I'm torn. A month or so ago there was a highly ranked topic on how those in seddit need to stop judging other about continuing the chase after you know a female has a boyfriend. Honestly, I like the ideas behind seddit and the logic and social dynamics as a study, but if you don't have principals you don't get my respect.
[–]ruorgimorphu 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
For me, I don't like that it's acting. Yes it gets results, but I have it as a personal value to be genuine to people, otherwise you're lying, manipulating, and making life into a game. I prefer to be true to myself and others. I also wonder about the depth of a relationship started this way. I feel like a girl would be disoriented and wonder about you since you're playing these games, she'll eventually have to figure out who the real you is, if you ever let it out. I approve only of the most basic, first steps about confidence and approach. Though, I don't see it as sexist in a bad way because the concepts are accurate.
I saw a couple of posts saying that some men think they're being chivalrous and more attractive for this kind of view, but I agree and don't think that. This view obviously gets in the way, but my top priority in life isn't to round the bases.
Edit - just read an FR and yup, I definitely wouldn't feel good about the blatant lying

So, why are you here?
No one said it's about looks or money. We might write something now and again that focuses on looks, money, confidence, or some other aspect of "game." But it's never all about one thing.
It's about more things than you or I could list here.
And I'll give you this one. It IS a numbers game - in the way that baseball is.
Your batting average may be a .200 without training. With training you can bump that up to .250
You might never get to be the world's best at .370, or whatever, but that's splitting hairs. The key is that with training, and introspection, and motivation, you can be better than you were yesterday.
I've yet to see anyone on Seddit promise any guy anywhere a "hot woman" or even a "good woman."
What I've seen here is men teaching men perspective, reality, and understanding the difference between what they can change for the better (themselves), and what they need to adapt to (circumstances and others).
Yes a lot of it is snake oil. Yes, a lot of it won't work for some people.
But then, let's look at something demoralizing, like what you wrote. You think snake oil is dangerous?
Well, I think your message is MUCH more dangerous to a guy who is depressed, misguided, and completely lacking in faith in himself. Which is how most people get to Seddit and seduction advice in the first place.
What's the first thing we tell those guys?
"Pickup and seduction is not a cure for depression, loneliness, low self esteem, or poor health, and these can hurt your game in dramatic ways"
I hear arguments like yours all the time. You say our methods are pseudo-scientific. Well, fine, I don't remember that last time I saw anyone claim to be scientific about this. We do collect data, and we do notice trends. So, really, being a numbers game, it's more about statistics and shifting your bell curve.
But, beyond that, I ask you - who have you actually helped, with regard to romance/seduction, with your attitude? Whose life have you improved?
Happiness might not be quantifiable in a way that you'd accept, but I have a whole list of people who will attest to having subjectively better lives after I helped them put their lives in perspective.
I guess you'll just file that under "anecdotal evidence," though.
I don't mean to sound hostile, but I felt the need to respond to your post as coldly as you walked into our community and told us what you happen to think we're all doing wrong.
So, again, what are you doing here? Trying to be right? Winning?
[–]dramaticternofevents 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The problem many guys have before coming here is that they don't swing. In fact, they probably aren't at a baseball diamond in the first place, and wouldn't know how to hold the bat even if they were. They know that they want to be playing sports, but they're too busy watching ESPN to do anything but wonder about what they should be doing.
[–]itsmevichet 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Low batting average, don't swing, can't run, can't bunt - you name a problem, someone here has had it and beat it.
Including lots of people who have started with nothing. Yours truly spent the first 17 years of his life thinking it was morally wrong to even look at women a certain way.
Details, my friend, details. All things in time - as long as you can get a person to start on the path, all things come in time.
The key is that training, and experience, and direction and suggestions from those more experienced, is what elevates us.
Everyone starts somewhere.

You say it is just anecdotal, but how many pickup guys have you talked with about their lives to determine it is snake oil? I'm going to trust my personal observations of real change over some random person on the internet not even involved in the community telling me it is bullshit.

One of my Crossfit coaches is also a USA Weightlifting Senior Coach. There are already NFL players doing it
All things being equal, a guy who is a 5 will end up with a 5. But I do think good game can turn a 5 into a 7, and thus raise who he gets.
I definitely date more attractive women than I used to. Part of that is a numbers game, but much more of it is learning to be bold and say what I want as opposed to just trying to please her.
Edit to add: here's a 10 year NFL veteran who went paleo.
I actually don't do paleo, but I do do low-carb and I definitely have more energy even though I'm middle aged.

r/seduction advice doesn't have to be used as a way of picking up women. There are a few of us who use the advice and apply it to our lifestyles rather than the dating scene. Take me for example, I have had a hit a few speed bumps (see history), but now with the help of seddit I have improved my lifestyle alot (socializing more, meeting new people everyday, talking to everyone possible ect. ect. ), admittedly I still am an AFC but working on it.
I have a love/hate with this subreddit (mostly hate) but you couldn't be more wrong about not being able to score hot women when you don't have X or Y. I personally know a man who is a complete fat ass, hardly has any money (I think he may live out of a van right now), certainly does NOT look good (He honestly looks like the Butthurt Dwellor meme minus the acne), and he sleeps with the hottest women I've ever seen in my life regurlarly. If you don't think this shit works then you just haven't seen it properly applied. My main problem comes from the incredibly douchey attitudes that are constantly praised on this subreddit (boyfriend destroyers, etc.)
So, I'm against snake oil nonsense. And a lot of PUA is just that.
This. This is what I think most people see, and hell, it's what I saw initially. The only reason I'm here is to help learn self-confidence. Most people assume that seddit is full of routines and rehearsed lines.
Basically, the idea of seddit to most of reddit is a group of grifters who have devoted their time to tricking people into giving them sex instead of money. Building up a false persona to get what you want, instead of being genuine.
Haters gonna hate
/r/fitness get similar attitudes from ourside /r/fitness. /r/bodybuilding even more
it is a byproduct of the society that we live in, where everyone is dismisses anything that doesn't fit their worldviews; and once it's one the web, things exacerbate even more, on reddit they reach new levels due to the ease of anonymity
the first amendment is a wonderful thing, and it's also a double edged sword; I suggest you ignore them, and continue with your life. I do that, or at least I try to.

I stopped seeking approval from white knights and ugly dykes a long time ago. Google my username.
It has to do with the idea of feminism and its brainwashing of male society. Why did my last relationships fail? I was a fucking pussy. I let them be bitches. I let them have their way. I should, and will, from now on be the man I used to be. You have to trust yourself, and many of the people against /r/seduction take the equality and you have to be kind, honest, and appeasing to all women. FUCK THAT SHIT! Women play more games than men. If they didn't, then we would need /r/seduction. The best statement here was: "Some men reject seddit because they are chivalrous morons who think that it will make them more attractive to have 'principles.'" This is fucking right. You know what those morals get you, friend fucking zoned. Be a fucking man, don't be complacent, don't appease, don't look for approval, and have the balls to stand up for yourself or walk away when needed.

Hate for /r/seduction is a good thing. The more women that know about it, the more they are going to call men on it in the field. Women exposed to seddit will tend to see it as manipulation and will feel used, when the truth is that seddit is about making life better for everyone by improving the self. The more men that know about it, the more competition. There are a lot of good men that could benefit from seddit but due to some ingrained beliefs are morally opposed to it, and they are totally welcome here once they get over their limiting beliefs.
