In my area, at least, the salary is $60-80k for entry level, and maybe $80-100k after established. Some can make $150k-300k but it's not the norm, it's more for exceptional people.

I guess I have to be that guy and point out that the artist is Japanese. The argument I've always heard from this subreddit is that we are pro-equality. And in this case, in Japan, women do have a lot of barriers to working on an equal footing still. This isn't to say that this isn't completely misunderstood by Western Feminists, but it is also misunderstood by the people seeing as if it were in their western country. Japan is a developed nation and a major economy, but it isn't a Western nation in many ways.

Why are women taking gender studies? They choose it, you can pick and do whatever the fuck you want. Not once did I see a job that said "men only apply" attached to it. If there is, it is pretty fucking illegal and should be reported. There is no degree that says you have to be a certain gender or race to take the degree, you choose what you want to do. Women create their own paths by choosing gender studies. Stop blaming men, and blame women for their own life choices. My wife wants to do child care stuff, while I will not go against what she wants, I was trying to push her for what she wanted. Which ironically was baking and pastry, because she loves it. Now she does hospitality type stuff in her field. I am going for computer stuff. She can choose to do whatever she wants, but she chooses what she does.

Oh and you want better profit? The stairs makes you come out stronger and healthier while the escalator is going to make you fatter and lazy, I would rather take the stairs for better results in the end.

I feel conflicted about the person's response. The road is definitely different for women, but not necessarily harder (and perhaps easier). As a woman who majored in STEM (mechanical engineering) in college, here is my experience:

(1) I benefitted from affirmative action in college admissions. I was accepted at MIT, for example, when many of my male peers (who often had higher test scores) were not. I ended up going to another ivy league university which prides itself in its high percentage of female engineers.

(2) At [unnamed college], though, I was treated differently from my male peers in the hands-on building classes. I was given really simple tasks (like get this tool, etc.) rather than being asked to machine a part or lead. HOWEVER, if I had taken just like 20% more initiative than my male peers, I think I could have corrected this. Also, there were a lot of weird power struggles in those classes, because we were grouped in teams, so I am not sure gender was the entire cause.

(3) I ended up not working in engineering after college, but if I had, I am nearly certain I would have experienced affirmative action in the hiring process. I became a private tutor instead, and I definitely got the feeling my gender helped me there. (Many parents left me home alone with their high school daughters -- don't think they would have done that with a male tutor.)

This is a bad interpretation of the picture. It's not literally impossible, but women have to put more effort in it.

Women have to defy the gender norms and societal expectations ("STEM is not a women's study, do liberal arts instead"), women are still often discriminated against men with the same qualifications at job interviews, and mothers are often expected to sacrifice career opportunities to take care of the children.

Wow, I wish I knew this existed earlier. THIS is what we call shoving your ideology down somebody's throat. By merely approaching the stairs/escalator, you are confronted with societal pressure. There are all sorts of scenarios that I could think of, but the first that come to mind are feminist women shaming other men for using the 'privilege' escalator, and I can easily see them doing it to women too. They're essentially putting labels on people just for using the escalator, a political statement like this does not belong here in a completely unrelated situation that could easily be interpreted as belittling people for using an escalator, not just the one who made this but also the people there. The best case scenario is that people don't give a shit and ignore it, but that's a little optimistic for the general population, especially considering that this was allowed to be made.

Also, from what I can tell they're trying to pass this off as art. If I was around, I would bring my spraypaint way past busy hours and go to town. It would have way more artistic value after a group of hoodrats had a night with it. Literally all they did is make one pink, one blue, and put the gender signs (By the way, doesn't this come off as promoting stereotypical shit for both genders? I frequently have passengers in my uber who discuss their education goals or past. I find many women chose to graduate with degrees or gravitate towards feminist studies, hospitality management, accounting, office management, primary education, and psychology. While their male S.O or good friend/ date etc are seeking degrees in, engineering, psychiatry, law, computer science, doctorates, dentistry, applied physics, robotics, game design etc. What I don't understand is when asked if you like or enjoy what you do now most women seem apathetic about the choice they made. And most guys are excited about the opportunity and money that they will have access to.. I'm not trying to paint everyone with a broad stroke but if women are not excited about the education choices they made....why pursue that career? They also seem hesitant to switch career paths to something in any of the stem fields. Men seem to take the understand that they made a difficult and even daunting decision but seem to be more motivated by the compensation that the education will ultimately open up for them. I'm honestly curious as I've had so many people in my car and I always interrogate subtly to further my own understanding. It's definitely more common than coincidence. Why would you choose womens or gender studies and then openly admit that you wasted your time and money on a degree that would not get you ahead in life?

A better way to look at it:

The stairs are easy and cheep to construct, however they take longer and makes it harder to reach the top.

The escalator on the other hand is harder and more expensive to build, but makes it easier to get to the top.

This is like compering a degree in engineering vs social science. Engineering is harder and more expensive, and in return, set one up to achieve greatness in life easier.

A better comparison than stairs vs. escalator would be walking vs biking. The escalator brings you to the top without doing a damn thing, but on a bike, you at have to pedal. Similarly. Nobody gets to "the top" of their field without effort of some sort. The ride isn't free.
