So, I read PPD constantly but I've only posted a couple times before - I'm a late 30s late bloomer on the spectrum and after getting vaccinated I've gotten back into dating via Bumble. I'm getting more experience, but I still have a tendency to hesitate for fear of making a move too soon. I recently dated a woman for a little over a month - we had drinks on the first date, on the second I took her to dinner in her neighborhood and we went for a walk that just happened to end at her house and we went inside and ended up sleeping together (ending a years long dry spell for me); and we had a few more dates where we would eat, sleep together at one of our places, and hang out. Ultimately, she said she had just come out of a relationship and wasn't ready to keep moving forward (maybe that explanation was to spare my feelings, but who knows), and we ended it.

Fast forward to this week, and I met a new woman for drinks, and I'm pretty sure I botched what was supposed to be a hookup. We drank and chatted at a bar for about an hour, and eventually she asked if I was ready to go, so I said yeah. I was thinking about going for a kiss when we were outside, but she put her mask on immediately in preparation to get on the Metro. We kept talking in the station and got on the train together, and I got her number while we were riding. At one point she asked if I lived near a metro station, and I said yeah, assuming she was just making small talk. I had to transfer, and I hugged her and told her I had a good time, and she looked a bit surprised and thanked me for taking her out. I enjoyed the date with her and ended up texting her the next day to invite her to dinner at an Italian restaurant in her neighborhood, but she wrote back that she didn't feel a spark.

So, I now think the question about the metro station was her seeing if I was going to offer an invitation back to my place. I don't want to sound like I had zero awareness the date could lead to a hookup, but it seemed a little ambiguous and I didn't want to risk offending her if that wasn't what she was looking for (she mentioned seeking a relationship on her profile). Also, my place was messy at the moment and I didn't want to invite anyone back, but I guess that's something I have to plan for. I guess this comes down to the leading the date as the man, and I'm looking for analysis on this. Would you say, even if sometimes the woman does the inviting, it's generally the man's job to invite the woman back to his place if it seems like things can keep progressing? Also, did my not picking up on the hookup make me come across as a guy who doesn't get laid (which, in fairness, I am)?

I'm going to start a habit of weekly reposts of what Cover-Pseudonym wrote in another thread because god knows we can all stand to have weekly reminders.

As a woman I can tell you my opinion. Straight women (much like men) enter relationships with people based on their psychological needs. However you never get everything you want. Generally:

My friend group is all fucked up because one of my loser friends back like 8 months ago got lucky enough where this girl took a liking to him, but he's super inexperienced so she gave up on him making moves and leading after a couple months and dumped him

Then a different friend who is a decently attractive normie - who the girl had apparently been crushing on for a long time even while dating my loser friend - decided he wants to date her

Now my loser friend has lost his shit and refuses to hang out with normie friend, everyone taking sides and shit and now there's like this douchey drama divide.
