I went to the gym later than usual today which means I was there during full bro hours (ie super crowded, all buff men). Got the tech job in bumfuck nowhere Midwest, HR guy was HYPING it up so bad saying this job will set me up for the future, it’s a great opportunity, and how it’s an engineering level 2 position. Got the offer yesterday and it’s less than my first job out of college lol. Idc if the cost of living is lower, there’s a reason, it’s a shit place no one wants to live in. In my quest to waste time I've been listening and reading a good deal on the Dunning–Kruger effect and some lectures by professor Dunning.

While this comes up often in PPD usually as a non-self aware insult, its not the scary part IMO.

Incompetent people who think they are competent can be horrible but are usually easy to figure out.

Its another related effect they noted which was competent people also harbor ideas which are wrong but they believe just as much as what is correct. This was with university students too, not just random idiots. Basically students would learn material but unless specifically addressed not "unlearn" their untrue ideas.

This one is the scary one because you have no idea you have these. Unless you have a situation where you realize its wrong, you won't ever know, and its unknowable to you.

I've had this as a doc. There were a number of things taught to me by instructors in school which we were told doesn't happen or does happen and then 20 years of practice later, I've seen the "doesn't happen" 5-6 times. I undoubtedly have such erroneous information as fact in my brain which hasn't been observed to be challenged or is something where I don't know it needs to be challenged.

And this is a subject I know and have studied, worked in daily for 20ish years not including schooling.

Its frightening in a lot of ways, even if its "just life".

I went to the club for the first time yesterday and here is my experience:

I was not very drunk, when we came to the entrance which made me paranoid because of the stories I’ve heard of guys who looked like us not being able to get in, even though they had bought a table. It also didn’t help that the security told us we looked menacing while explicitly pointing me out for looking too rough.

After waiting in the line for approximately 20 minutes we get inside, and we head over to our table. There were already people standing there so we politely told them that they needed to leave. I stood around our table for 15 minutes awkwardly, not knowing what to do. Then finally our bottles came and I started drinking. This made the experience a lot better. I was having fun and talking to people I did not know, about things I did not know. Very enjoyable.

About an hour after we got the bottles I approached a girl who I made out with for 15 minutes, and then she just upped and left lol.

Then I went over to the bar to buy something to drink for my friend, and that is legit the last thing I remember.

Overall 8/10 night.

Serious question: why do the vast majority of narratives, questions and comments about anything related to sex that is discussed here make these weird assumptions that relationship sex either doesn’t happen or doesn’t count, or that the word “sex” automatically means casual and ONSs?

Like on the Q4W thread when did you have most sex in your life, a bunch of the responses went right to “my n count was highest when..:” The question is asking about sex not counts. Yes you can have tons of sex with one person and that’s actually what most people do.

Houston was fun, very underrated honeymoon / vacation destination and the weather was so nice, I just want the weather in Chicago to stay 75 degrees for the next five or six months, I don't think that's too much to ask lol

Ended up seeing an early showing of eternals while I was there, it was fine it was pretty good, I can see why the critics are a little divisive on it, maybe somebody else will be more into the characters than me but I just wasn't feeling it and the biggest problem is that the pacing just absolutely sucked, it look really good though and pushed some pretty thought-provoking buttons but I can't say this is going to rank highest for me in terms of my favorite Marvel movies, but Angelina Jolie as a blonde🤤🤤🤤🤤
