This is one area where the sexes differ.

Fat women have a constituency. There are enough guys who like, and even prefer, big girls that dating is still relatively easy for fat women.

Fat men have no such constituency. The number of women who actually like fat guys is vanishingly small. Thus fat guys really struggle in the dating marketplace.

Nah, I disagree. Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to have more dating options. I feel like the dating pool being flooded with fatties definitely causes issues. But there are places like Japan and Korea facing population decline and borderline collapse, even though they’re significantly healthier weights than our population in the U.S.

The main problem and cause of current dating issues is that men and probably women too have become too anti social. Its like a pandemic of social anxiety and anti-social attitudes. They dont have mixed gender groups going to the mall anymore, house parties, clubs, sport clubs, communal activities etc. They spend most of their time online and socialize this way too.

If you were to look at what defines people who struggle to find dates its that they they have no hobbies that are done in groups, they dont have many friends and that they shy away from forming new connections with people.

Weight is the least of your problems.

I don’t agree at all. If I had to take a well educated guess, the one common thread I see among all unsuccessful guys is their extremely low self esteem, distorted thoughts and beliefs around women, dating and mostly themselves.

Everyone walks around feeling like a nobody, behaving like a nobody and beginning for women’s attention and approval. But that’s not what women want. They don’t want the nice, gentle, insecure guy. They want someone who feels powerful and acts powerful. And that all comes down to internal mindset and beliefs.

I think most people would like it if their potential pool of partners was all slim/muscular people? That wouldn’t be a downside for most people, sure.

But most of the problems people struggle with seem to have more to do with either not being chosen themselves, or with specific behaviors of the partners they are dating or attempting to date. Those problems would persist through a magical obesity-eliminating transformation of the population.

Ever since gym culture has become popular in the very late 00s, there's been a huge inflation on what's considered an attractive male body. Now, a healthy weight but not muscular male body is considered decidedly subpar in attractiveness and mocked as "skinnyfat".

Whatever issues you think the "dating climate" has, will not be fixed by people losing weight, by and at large. If fat people lose weight, they become more attractive, and are thus seen as options to healthy-weight people who wouldn't have considered them an option before. All this does is raise the overall number of people in the dating scene that already attractive people are willing to date, but it doesn't fix any of the societal issues that are actually affecting people's dating lives, like:

Technology addiction.
Pornography addiction.
Overworked / hustle culture.
Loneliness / chronic isolation.
Mental illness.
A total and complete lack of proper and healthy socialization for young men growing up.
Single parent households / childhood trauma.

The list goes on and on. Losing weight can help an individual person find a partner, but the main reasons why average people have trouble finding partners in 2025 really can't be fixed simply by individuals bettering themselves to become more competitive against one another, in an already competitive landscape.

The issues that are the most important in fixing the sexual landscape, for the most part, are the result of modern society, the way we integrate with the world, the way our children are raised, the way we use technology, and the way we have to work and sell ourselves to survive. None of this is ever going to get fixed though, it is what it is.

Why is that? Because if there's the slightest bias in age gaps within relationships, then a flat or inverted pyramid of age would instantly screw young men over.

The primary problem with modern relationships is precisely "dating" or "hooking-up".

The goal of courtship should be to find a suitable partner for marriage and raising a family. Sex shouldn't even be considered until after marriage.

And yeah, I know how inconceivable this sounds to most people today. But the thing is that "hook-up" culture, or "casual sex" is more destructive to our society than any war, natural disaster or pandemic.

Pretty much the entire western world has birth rates below replacement level, which leads to many more problems, such as aging society and not enough young workforce. Which, in turn, leads to ever-increasing retirement age, ever-lower pension, governments not able to fund even essential services.

People really need to stop thinking about their own little sexual fantasies and start thinking how to reverse the path our society is heading. Which, currently, is collapse.
