In my opinion, the only viable solution is to destigmatize male sexlessness and brotherly affection between men.

Contrary to popular belief, men don't automatically become depressed or turn to delinquency when faced with sexlessness.

I was a virgin for longer than felt normal and what bothered me wasn't the sexlessness, but feeling like there was something wrong with me.

When a college aged man says they aren't having sex, the answer shouldn't be "Do this or do that.", the answer should be "That's normal."

Because statistically, it now is.

We shouldn't use virgin or incel as an insult in the same way we shouldn't use gay as an insult.

A human doesn't need sex to be happy, but they do need affection and to feel like they belong.

Yeah, they controlled female sexuality; they also put limits on male sexuality. Sure, if you were wealthy, you could get around them, but most men weren't. It's why you had things like shotgun weddings. By God, he's going to take responsibility for his actions. When it came to arranged marriages, the groom often didn't have a say in it, either; this was arranged by their families.

Your references to historical efforts taken to “control” women seem to be assuming it was only driven by men. That is really downplaying women’s contribution to even primitive societies.

Women at many times went right along or promoted those traditions and passed them down in an effort to control future generations or in a misguided belief it would give their children a better life.

Why that would that be driven by women?

Unwanted pregnancy’s provided a huge burden to families. Having to provide for a child is a huge effort. And parent’s would also be responsible. And society frowned upon those that violated their standards as a way of control.

So many things like Dowry’s and planned marriages were just done to make sure the daughter would be supported. Some of the other things you mentioned were to prevent sexual activity, As misguided as it was.

So the changes you are taking about are rather new to society. Effective Birth control has only been around since the 1960’s. I’d really say it got more reliable in the 80’s to the 90’s.

So now that unwanted pregnancy has been minimized as a societal problem, we can start changing our culture to match. The problem is people don’t change these ingrained ways of thinking immediately. Grandparents and others still pressure folks to do it the way it’s always been done because that’s the world they grew up in.

Also, I think social media has made many people socially awkward. If you interact via a phone 90% of the time you “lose” the skills of Social interaction and develop anxiety when you interact infrequently.

Also, I think Hollywood builds up the objectification of both sexes. If I don’t fulfill the leading man profile, don’t you think it would make a man a little self-conscious just the way ads make women feel ashamed of their bodies?

And, as I guy who grew up in the 80’s those old 80’s movies did add to the “objectification” of women.

And what I mean by that, is it build up in my cohorts mind a way that women should behave. And rather then stressing that each women is an individual just reinforced stereotypes. So, some of the same whining that young guys do today was done back then.

It’s really a problem of being in a transitional phase in society and it seems to be accelerating.

Sexual selection involves, and is almost wholly based on control. I don't know where people get this idea that men controlling women's sexuality is bad because women will attempt to do the same. It's not a "one side good, other side bad" situation. Men and women are both actively trying to control the other and make the other more like how they want by reproducing with what they find attractive. Women want attractive, sociable body guards who get and share their resources and men want attractive, young-looking loyal women who only want sex with them.

There's nothing we can do to avoid it because this is nature, but let's not pretend like we can't ever go back to one side having control over the other, because this is what both sides really want.

I believe the OP's characterization of the past is vastly oversimplified. Men and women were not separate, monolithic groups engaged in a zero sum contest. If anything, a more correct division is upper tier men, women, and lower tier men, who to a great deal extent were advantaged in that rank order. But even that is an oversimplification. That said, there is an element truth that purely on sexual satisfaction grounds, men were more privileged. The only stable system we could come up with ended up requiring more of a sexual sacrifice from women in return for a greater sacrifice from men in other areas. It seems clear that whatever system we create now, women want an equal sexual sacrifice--they will no longer, en masse, trade sex for other things. We need to compromise on sex equally, and then in other areas equally. One area cannot be used to compensate for the other. AT least that is what we need to try before we go to some darker place.

As to your point about men feeling lied to, it depends on your time frame and the region in question. Let's just say there were mixed messages for sure. At any rate, does it really matter now?

What really matters is what we do going forward. And again, I believe the OP has oversimplified the situation, but her key point is the relevant question. Women do, I believe, want one man who is dedicated to them. But they also want to find him attractive. The key thing to her happiness is not how objectively attractive he is, but that SHE can find him attractive. So a situation where most women cannot find most men attractive is NOT conducive to the happiness of most women any more than it is to men. Still, it is better for women than being forced into pairings where they find the man sexually repulsive.

We do not have all the answers to the current problem. The clear answer, short of a complete and revolutionary rearrangement of the mating and child raising structure, is to make more men sufficiently attractive to more women.

Trying to do this will involve some experimentation as there are some things we do not actually know. First, it is true that female attraction to men is based both on a man's relative and absolute attractiveness. The relative element is both relative to other men and to the woman. Some posters here feel that this attraction is entirely based on men's relative ranking, such that any across the board increases in male attractiveness are irrelevant. I am doubt the situation is this extreme. I wager that absolute increases in male attractiveness, both in appearance and behavior, as well as reduction in the size of the difference between the least and most attractive men, can result in less men being left out of the mating game.

On the female side, while female sexual selectivity does have a strong biological basis, it is also highly culturally mediated. While certain male fitness (appearance) based attraction triggers won't change much, the non-appearance based criteria that women judge men on are subject to change via culture. As is the weighting of the various criteria. This is a culture telling everyone that raw sexual thrill is the most important thing possible. So women's selection mechanisms, and thus what they can find attractive, will adapt to this. (As will men's but that is not really relevant here.) Excessive exposure to false options can overly enflame hypergamous reactions that have fixated on male looks as the most important criteria in attraction. Online dating as opposed to local, face-to-face dating is not helping at all.

Remember, women are losing out too when they cannot find a man who will pair with them sufficiently attractive to do so. What a woman can find attractive is only partially within her control. She needs help from the culture, and most women will be happier if they get it. I cannot count the times where I have heard women say 'This guy is so great. I keep trying to date him in hopes something clicks. But so far, nothing. If only I could find him more attractive.'

So there are a lot of things that can be tried before we start to contemplate zero sum solutions that privilege one gender's sexuality over another for the good of the human race. I know that in the West's laissze faire, personal independence culture, the implementation of any of these attempted solutions seems unlikely as most of them depend on a cultural movement. But we will see. A sharp and sustained rise in male sexlessness can represent an existential threat to a culture. As can a sustained drop in the birthrate below replacement. These are phenomena that can force even a laissez faire culture to become less so in some dimensions.

Whether it's a guy or a corporate master their drive in life comes from societal expectations (back then it was to serve your man, now it is to get that career). The elite men who fabricate these social values hold the most power.

Women tend to be high in agreeableness and conscientiousness which makes them excellent worker bees, far better than the typically guy. High agreeableness means they are less likely to ask for raises, go against the status quo, question orders, etc. High conscientiousness means they pay attention to the details, delivering a high caliber of work. And of course their social skills tend to be better which is important in the corporate world.

If you want to profit off the system, go start an accounting firm or something and hire a bunch of underpaid women to do the book-keeping and grunt work. Make sure you have good HR staff who will brainwash with the 'you go girl' feminist narrative and all that jazz.

My prediction is either of the following (probably both):

Western societies will slowly collapse as economies weaken; men are not incentivized to work/innovate/create and would rather play video games pursue hobbies. This has nothing to do with automation and outsourcing low-level jobs.
A select few corporations will continue to dominate the market as fewer entrepreneurs enter the market from a result of increased debt and economic struggles faced by younger generations in combination with sexual liberation de-incentivizing men (who are the most likely to start businesses/go against the grain). Corporations are traditionally the most conservative and least likely to innovate, progress in STEM will slow.

Until the advent and acceptance of artificial wombs, the global population will begin to decline as developing countries experience the same issues developed ones are facing now.

How the advent of artificial wombs will change all of this I am less certain of. High power men will be able to procreate without risking divorce and women problems interfering with their lives. Women may procreate without a guy, but women cannot raise boys into men.

This has caused what men always attempted to stop: the possibility they cannot control women means they are not able to meet female standards of sexual selection.

First, there is a question of how sustainable this actually is. If women are sexually selecting for Chads, but not actually having children with Chads, then it's ultimately an evolutionary dead-end (I'm not saying they should, therefore; rather, I am just pointing this out). Meanwhile, if conservative/Christian/Islamic types are having 4, 6, or 8 kids, then the current female mate selection system (i.e. generally speaking, promiscuity/sex outside of marriage) will become highly regulated again once those types gain a demographic foothold in society. How quickly that happens would depend on how many children they have/how many defectors from that system, but if enough children were had, I think they would easily outnumber the defector children (children who leave whatever cultural system they were brought up in).

I've said before, I am opposed to promiscuity/premarital sex, so I greatly oppose that part of the current program.

Outside of that, I (generally, perhaps with a few exceptions) have no problems with female selection being freed. You could probably make a strong argument that things like arranged marriages are incredibly dysgenic. I also think it's great that women are able to support themselves now. Imo, it would be a horrible spot to find oneself in if I thought the only reason a woman was with me was that I provided for her (hence the strategy of dating younger women and avoiding women who may be looking to settle, though this obviously doesn't describe all older women).

I do think men have become a bit too comfortable. I think it seems like a lot more fun if you know the girl is dating you because she has a ton of options but legitimately picked you than it is because she couldn't leave the house and you were the only available guy within a one-mile radius. Men are not built for comfort. Embrace the struggle.

The solution is four fold:

Legalize and destigmatize sex work. Yes, this is not the best solution. Many men want sex to be meaningful, paying for it makes it much less meaningful. But when you have an open wound, a bandage is better than nothing.
Feminism is a wonderful thing, but it needs to focus on men's issues just as much as they do on women's issues. Yes, yes, I know the standard talking points is that it's all about equality etc. But in practice this isn't true. Men's issues events are constantly shut down by feminists on college campuses. Meninists are shamed and insulted constantly. Etc. It's wonderful that feminism exists. And it's also totally fine if they want to ignore men's issues as well. But if the latter then they need to get out of the woman for group dedicated to solving men's problems to operate. And let them be taken seriously.
The family and marriage system needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom to become more equitable to men as well.
Women have to stop perpetually believing lies about wage gaps, patriarchy, male gaze, etc. All of this nonsense that is further driving us away from one another.

Women have every right to pursue whoever they want. They don't owe any man sex. But at the same time, men don't owe women anything either. You can't be special and equal at the same time. And you cant keep shaming men into behaving the way you want if women are the ones now fully empowered.

So 80% of men, are only considered by the bottom of the barrel, and the rest average women have super high standards.

So you can either view this as needing to “up the game”. Conversely you can view it as lowering unrealistic standards.

Standards like the 6-6-6 (height, income, length) is about 1 in 1000 men statistically. Two of those are immutable, as is baldness (6-6-6 and not balding would take you to 1 in 4000). And that’s not even figuring in attractiveness to be considered by women who aren’t at the bottom of the barrel — that is primarily average women. Then you’d be at 1 in 20000.

Everything you said in the first two paragraphs of your post is either pseudo-historical fiction (chastity belts) or a non-issue blown out of proportion by alarmists.

There is no "return to female subjugation" because there was no "female subjugation" (except several exceptionally primitive, "culturally basal" tribes where violence and murder are/were seen as everyday normal occurence). Interestingly, I would argue that it is these top 20% men (the Prince Charmings), that many women desire the most, that would consider further subjugation. Average men, on the other hand, are in it for love and companionship not conquest. Especially, if they don’t have the means to “up their game”.

There is no consequence for a woman that decides to have casual sex forever and never settle. So, she rather remain single forever than settling for a man that isn't 6ft and handsome. I think that even if sexlessness is important another important factor to take into consideration when analyzing the long term outcome of this scenario is the fertility rate.

In Europe is well below 2.1, the minimum to sustain the population.

In the long term this is a key factor, it does not matter the 80-20 rule, even if true. If every woman gives birth to at least 2.1 babies the system can sustain, otherwise will collapse.

Not true, this has happened many times before, most great societies that fell like Rome actually went downhill after women were allowed to vote and given freedoms. Eventually they became gynocracies and hedonistic pits that fell. Every society that gave women rights and subsidised promiscuity has fallen.

Look up the end days of Rome or even what the Weimar Republic was, you would think the debauchery that took place during their end times was a normal day in California.

You are wrong right out of the gate. Historically the emphasis was on family formation not controlling female sexuality. Family is the ethical basis of society. You can’t have human rights without family. The earthly imperative of organized religions is to encourage family as a hedge against the tyrannical state. This creates stability needed to raise whole adults who are motivated to perpetuate that stability. Stability through family formation is how history ended up written down in the first place.

The best way to encourage family formation is to shame single mothers like we do felons. Widespread sexual incontinence leads to single motherhood. Single motherhood leads to underachievement at best and violent crime/human trafficking at worst.
