The average American man is now 198 pounds and stands 5 feet 9 inches tall. He has a 40-inch waist, and his body mass index is 29, at the high end of the “overweight” category.

The average American woman is now 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighs 171 pounds, with a 39-inch waist. Her B.M.I. is close to 30.

American men gained a whopping 32 lbs from 1960 to 2016. Women gained 31 during that time.

All that extra weight impacts both men and women. It greatly lowers testosterone, confidence, drive and energy in men. A 40 inch waist or greater, is actually considered a major erectile dysfunction risk factor in men, and that's now the AVERAGE waist size! Obesity also impacts energy, confidence, body image and fertility in women.

If American men and women are finding each other a bit less attractive then they used to, one could hardly blame them! If indeed women really consider 80% of men to be "below average", are we talking about today's "average", or what "average" used to be? Obviously, it's not the only dating issue affecting Americans today, but it's a big backdrop to everything else.
