one commenter already made an extensive bit about how fantasies are more tied to a trauma response/a form of internal control - doesn’t mean that these women actually want to be raped. The mind is a funny thing.

As for the dark triad traits, it’s worth looking at why that’s the case - dark triad men, especially if attractive, are great at showing traits like charm and confidence, intelligence, critical thinking and tend to dominant and spontaneous. These traits aren’t inherently dark tried, but taken to the extreme, they can very easily display narcissism, psychopathy and machiavellianism. Most women are into confident, charismatic dominant men - most dark triad men fall into this, it’s more correlation than causation cause barring any kind of mental illness related issues with sense of self (ex. BPD and an unstable sense of identity) or the woman herself having a low to non existing moral compass, most would pick a good man displaying the traits mentioned above (confidence, charisma, dominance, etc….)

Of course, if a woman’s only two options are a man in the dark triad vs a spineless man who thinks being nice gives him value…. we all know who she’s choosing because being meek, unconfident, and doormat like is incredibly unattractive to most women and lots of people as a whole

That's just the nature of Dark Triad personalities, they know how to manipulate people and make themselves look attractive to people. Also, I won't say people like being lied to, but they like believing things about other people that are not true. This is just a flaw with human nature.

I think you are getting wires crossed if you are suggesting women choose dark triad men so they can play the victim. They pick bad men because they have been given full autonomy in mating choice, and these men have traits that were conducive to survival in jungle-times. It is simply them going by what makes the lizard brain feel good, and is akin to guys who go after Stacys who are cluster b, extremely manipulative, and emotionally abusive.

What is troubling is that there is plenty of sympathy for women when they make bad choices because of the tingles, but there is next to no sympathy for men when they make bad choices by thinking with their little head.

Are there any other studies with similar results? The methodology of getting 100 or so college women to pick who is more attractive based on a DT self description and a control description doesn’t seem the most applicable to real life, especially when it doesn’t tell us if women would actually choose that man. (For an example, a man my find a OF model more attractive than the girl next door, but that doesn’t mean he’d pick her for a relationship.)

I can see men with high DT traits self-report more sexual partners (which makes sense), but as the study points out their personality traits also make it more likely they would lie.

I’m not saying your point is wrong exactly, being manipulative, self-confident, willing to take risks etc is likely to lead to more success sexually, but the study you’ve linked isn’t exactly brilliant at backing up the point. It would be interesting to see if there is any link between attachment styles/history of childhood trauma and attraction to dark triad personality traits and if any studies have been done into this.

My personal view is that women as a whole aren’t attracted to abusive men, but there are certainly a subsection of women (normally raised in abusive environments) that are drawn to abusive men because it’s what they know and what is normal, and the red flags just look ordinary to them. And abusive men are normally pretty good at telling which women are more vulnerable; who is going to call the police if you hit them, and who will suck it up etc.

I was talking about this, about why women chose the men they chose, with one of my best friends, a pal 15 years my senior who's a psychologist (among other things), recomended me once to watch a cartoon from DC Comics I guess? IDK, not a huge fan of comics really.

Well this cartoon is about Batman and Superman kinda fighting each other for the love of a gal, I think it's Loiss Lane.

So during the serie (it was actually one chapter) Loiss dates/flirts/fools around with both dudes, but without knowing about their alter egos.

And she's attracted to Superman, of course because who doesn't right? The jacked, blue eyed, "tall dark and handsome" motherfucker with the strenght of a thousand trains and the chin of a greek god.

Batman is not attractive to her. In fact, Batman freaks the shit out of her. A dark, faceless psychopath who roams the streets at night sorrounded by bats and scarrying and hurting people right?

But then, when she meets with Bruce Wayne at daylight... She's all over the place.

The dark vigilante suddenly becomes a tall, dark and handsome billionarie who's confident, charismatic, endearing...

Well, I just watched the episode and called my friend, and I said "dude, I get it, it's just brilliant", and proceeded to explain to him my idea of what I just saw, and he agreed.

You see, those dudes, Superman and Batman, are deep down the same kind of dude, despite they seem so different.

They actually are the superheroes. The "humans", or lets say, their human versions, are just a facade. Clark and Bruce do not really exist, they are just a facade.

Clark is the interpretation Superman does of humans. Clark is week, lame, stupid, spineless... Because that's how Superman sees humans. As weak. It's a camo.

Bruce is a charming man, because that's what he thinks humans WANT to see. He just gives others what they WANT.

And this is where the shit gets real.

Superman is a good man. A good hero. The archetype of a hero actually. We all like Superman.

In the inside, the man we want to be, the man we all want to our side, is not Bruce, it's Clark. But we do not get to see him. We see only the outside.

And the one who proyects in the outside the characteristics we like the most, is not the good man.

It's the psycho.

Loiss likes who Clark is on the inside. Superman, the archetype of man, if anything. The good dude. The nice guy.

No one has rape fantasies. It's an oxymoron.

Almost all women are traumatized by rape. Whether it happened to her, a friend, she lives in fear of it, she hears the stories, she reads the news, she felt sick to her core seeing it depicted on screen, she holds her keys between her fingers in the parking lot, etc.

When some women cope and imagine that it could be perfectly consensual, that's not rape. Something that happens inside your head is the utmost consent you will ever get.

Why are men so obsessed with saying men's crimes are not that bad and shouldn't be taken seriously because some women imagine something they're scared of their entire lives, and feels inevitable so she has to find a way to escape it, could magically be ok and safe?

Do you have this same energy when TONS of men and boys say they would love to literally be raped in real life by a hot woman?

Do you say people who fantasize about being shot and stabbed (which is insanely common) should be taken less seriously when they fear being shot and stabbed, or when it actually happens to them? And that's even worse than above, because women and men are fantasizing that it's literally not rape. People who fantasize about being brually injured are LITERALLY fantasizing about actually being harmed bloodily.

What about sexual assault fantasies? What if you imagined your crush comes to kiss you, but they didn't ask first? Do you understand that rape/sexual assault fantasies are LITERALLY not those things? Men know this. Men are not too stupid to understand this, and especially because men do it MORE than women. Men know. You just enjoy terrorizing women by acting like what happens to them must not be a serious crime because some women... imagined that rape was not rape as a way to cope with the doom they experience. People with high dark triad traits are usually better at getting what they want (at least for a certain time in their life). They know how to attract and charm vulnerable people and then use it for their gain.

There are dangerous men and (women: likely fewer) out there. I really would not blame that one on the victims.

I had an interesting conversation with a married women in which she admitted that she basically married her husband because he was a good provider and potential father.

The sort of guys she really wanted were dangerous bad boys.

However she had been sensible enough to realise such a man would make a lousy husband/long term partner.

The problem is most women don't have that level of common-sense, hence the reason why so many end up in toxic relationships
