I just saw a recent conversation between Jordan Peterson and Chris Williamson in which JP claimed that educated women have been “lied to their whole lives about what matters” and that when we “reach 30,” we finally realize that family matters more than career. The implication is that educated women only realize when they’re 30 that they want a relationship and children, at which point it’s supposedly ~harder to get those things~ (as if that isn’t what we’ve been taught for our, uh, ENTIRE LIVES 🙄)

I’m truly baffled by this lauded psychologist’s lack of insight into the female psyche.

I was completely flabbergasted by his claims. I’ve been taught my entire life—both by cultural messaging and my own family—that having a spouse and child is extremely important. I was also taught that I need to get a good job, earn a good living, and dedicate myself to a career. I’m sure most of us here have been taught the same.

Firstly, almost no successful man in his right mind will marry an uneducated woman living in poverty. Assortative mating is a thing. If you want to marry a doctor, it helps to be a lawyer.

Second: how the fuck are we supposed to have children in our early 20s if we can’t afford it? How can we partner up with and build lives with men who themselves are either languishing or struggling to build careers?

Then they turn around and judge struggling single mothers. Pick one!!

No matter what we do, we get blamed.
