That's what makes support groups so valuable.

Us adults don't wish any harm on others when they fall ill (especially mentally ill), but most adults have pretty complex lives outside of their friendships. As we age, friendships become less of a big deal. In school we want to have whole groups of friends, but as adults the number often drops and many of our "friends" are made up of family, spouses, and co-workers we don't hate, with fewer of the traditional close friends.

If one of the 20 falls ill, and they're not someone like a sibling, or a spouse, we often, subconsciously or consciously, say to ourselves, "I got enough on my plate, someone else can handle that."

But if everyone does that, then they can often end up with no one.

I had a close(ish) friend. Invite to the wedding and reception close, but not wedding party close. He had some sort of delusional episode and that evaporated very quickly. At first I tried to help, but I was out of my depth and it got exhausting (and eventually he fixated on me and I had to extract myself for his own sake).

I knew by that point that all he had left were his parents and no one else, but I could couldn't keep up without either being more damage than help for him, or just being exhausted emotionally for myself. I had my own life. I had gone back to school, I had a marriage to be a part of, and other friends who weren't hallucinating.

I'm not claiming I'm right or wrong in my actions, but having been there and knowing that I am in no way a saint, and most other people aren't too, there is reason behind this.

I have Tourette's, and it is exactly nothing like Deuce Bigalow. That was a funny movie, though, and after it came out I feel like Tourette's got some much-needed understanding

TS is a neurobiological disorder primarily characterized by involuntary motor or vocal tics, that the patient can suppress for short periods of time at the expense of great effort. I have no vocal tics, but I have some very noticeable physical ones. When I am suppressing them - say, at a job interview - I experience a sensation very similar to holding my breath. Go ahead, take a deep breath and hold it. Keep holding.... Longer. That is the exact sensation I feel. I must tic. Not doing so is not an option, not for long. Also, much like breathing, I can tic manually (when I am thinking about it, it gets worse, so I "let them out" to make the discomfort go away), or I can just exist, and they happen on their own.

I have had several tics go away that only come back during times of extreme anxiety. I have been able to focus most of my tics to my neck, resulting in several different head tics. I'm 20 now and my tics are worse than they have ever been, leaving me with additional experience with the disorder. I develop new tics somewhat often, but they normally go away. Tics in general wax and wane.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. As an adult TS sufferer, I try to educate about the disorder when it is mentioned. I hope to deter people from teasing younger TS patients.

Honestly, Tourette's is just a classification and really has no meaning outside of a doctors office so I now see that my comment was not necessary. Your neurologist is correct that tics normally diminish in adulthood and vocal tics going away is completely normal.

Yeah it really does strip us down. The thing is, one must remember that the face of humanity seen through the internet is not the true face of humanity. Well, I should say it is all there, but we have a tendency to focus on the worst aspects and ignore the good. Negativity just garners more attention than positivity.

If a baby is born in town and a person is murdered in town, guess what is going to make the news.

You see this in a much bigger scale online. People like to talk about the horrible shit that happened, or whatever it is that pisses them off. And that sort of shit brings out the worst in people.

So looking at humanity through the internet you tend to see a lot more of the worst of humanity than the best. Again, this depends on how you go about looking because it's all out there. The best of humanity is out there too. All the things we do that we love online, watching movies or youtube videos, playing online games, socializing, people sharing their art and lives, it's all thanks to people. The same people that say dumb shit and piss everyone off. Maybe not the exact same people, but we are all the same really, we all have the capacity to be cool or to be a shit.

I mean, he likely did get the odd look (old guy in a skirt with a noticeably lazy eye, bound to draw in the arseholes) but honestly for us students it was weirder on the few days he wore trousers to work. It just wasn't him, ya know? He always answered when he was asked why he wore women's skirts - "they're not women's skirts, I bought them, I'm a man - they're men's skirts!"

Plus, he was just a really cool guy, always made time for his students and taught us a lot about directing/camera work/sound/lighting/etc (we had a small TV studio so students could get legit experience - a girl in my year went on to move to London and work for the BBC).

Basically - people made comments right up until they'd actually talked with him and realised he was awesome.

Which I think would be the case with most people mocking someone for being different.

Yes but if wearing something on your penis was a necessary for just every day wear every time you leave the house and you have been told that it's something that is just going to be uncomfortable, and it got sized and someone told you that was your size....would you honestly question that something would be wrong? You knew it would be uncomfortable, and someone who's job it is to size you said that was your size. How is that so off putting that you seek a better answer when all you have to work on is "well, this is just the way it is. this is my size and I knew it would be uncomfortable".

When I was appropriately sized I was astounded at the difference in size. I never would have thought to try on a bra with a G or F cup because I didn't understand bras, not really. I gave into the idea that "you can tell by looking at someone about what cup size they are." Because it was all I ever knew, and it's all a lot of women know. A girl you look at may look like an A or B but is actually a DDD. Why would she ever think she was a triple D? She doesn't look like she is so she wouldn't ever consider doing it. And when she was sized at Victoria's secret they said she was a completely different cup size.

I don't know ow how else to give you the perspective of the average woman but to lay it out like that.

Also it's important to note that the wrong size shoe is immediately noticeable, but the wrong size bra isn't always. Sometimes you feel like it fits alright at the store but you wear it daily and you start to realize your back is tight and your shoulders hurt at the end of the day, and sometimes the straps fall and the bust strap is a bit snug.

These things aren't intolerable at the time for bras that just fit "alright" but over time take their toll. And it's just the right amount of discomfort for something you've been raised knowing would be (and has always been) uncomfortable, that you don't really consider that something is actually wrong.

Only people who are both physically and mentally healthy should serve.

I think the first form of triggered is pretty rare and can't apply to any SJW. The second one is obviously not triggered but you know what triggered is. Triggered as in someone sees someone use the word "manspread" and someone needs to go off on a rant about Tourettes and then everyone on this sub says she needs to feel like shit about herself for the rest of their life and somehow think her comment was "super offensive" to people with Tourettes. This may or may not be you. But this sub and that red snowflake got mega triggered by a girl thinking a guy kept himself from his legs touching the person next to him. And no one got that irony that this sub is full of people hating SJWs and complaining about being PC and yet got so triggered by such a harmless comment. And again no one can explain how in the world it belongs in this sub, what the pp was or how it was denied. It's literally here just because this sub is full of people triggered by people using the word "manspread" and knew it would kill.
