Yesterday I was driving to the supermarket with the radio on and my girlfriend in the passenger seat. An advertisement came on for lean pork, where a woman is talking to her friend saying, "Oh I feed it to my husband 3 times a week, and now he's [something like so attractive because it has made him thinner]."

I thought this is a little odd, because not only does it imply that women are the ones who do the food shopping and cooking, but if we reversed roles, "I feed my girlfriend lean pork to keep her thin and attractive" it would be seen as sexist objectification of women.

My girlfriend agreed it was odd but we couldn't work out exactly why one was okay and the other wasn't. She did mention, "Well men have been objectifying women for decades and now suddenly it happens to men and it's not okay?" I replied that if one thing is oppression then that doesn't justify/excuse reverse oppression, and she agreed.

What do you guys think?

Well, that's dumb, I feel like we've been over this a lot today on this subreddit, but this is a simple Apex Fallacy. The further you go back in time, the less well-off most people were, so to assume you'd have "an okay time" in a time-machine is just a preposterous stretch of the imagination. As a white male, I'd not like to back in time to the days of Feudal lords and peasants, unless the time-machine has a "make me king" button. But really, even that might suck in reality.
