Just saw some spring break party videos on Youtube. From what I saw, while both genders seem equally represented overall, the dynamics of the actual 'core' of the parties seemed different. In terms of people who were really partying and dancing with the opposite gender, it seemed more girls than guys. And the guys in the core were usually fairly fit and muscled, with shirts off. The girls were more of a mixed bag in fitness. Meanwhile, non-fit guys seems to be at the edges of the party, wearing t-shirts to cover their lack of physique.

It's late and I'm pretty high. But is this how things are at the big college parties? I know both genders are equally overweight overall, roughly. But in college, is it a smaller group of buffer guys who party with more girls, who are often less fit than the guys?

To add to that post about women's weird romance and smut: women absolutely judge men for their fantasies and that's not only blatantly obvious but generally justified on the feminism influenced left. It's such a basic fact of life that there are lots and lots of women out there who cringe at men for watching porn (automatically, regardless of what kind), who cringe at men for being into physical beauty, cringe at men who are into the idea of having sex with women just for the sake of it, because it seems like it can be fun, etc. Cringe cringe cringe.

Meanwhile, fat women are about as much in relationships as fat or short men, I personally know several fat women who even had skinny partners, nobody fucking cares. One thing for sure: female beauty standards suck, they are oppressive, and it's all patriarchy's (men's) fault.

For me, growing up I assumed that women have every right to feel angsty and angry and even depressed about men's unfiltered "degeneracy", if you will, and that I, as a man, should be aware and considerate of that (maybe even a hit ashamed). It's genuinely depressing that women refuse to even consider something similar. It's purely a bit of a shift in attitude, I don't demand anything serious. Like... literally just don't get automatically angry at men feeling depressed over the very prevalent phenomenon of women masturbating to fantasies of dominant powerful rich bad boys who kidnap them. Is that really that unreasonable? Seriously? "Fantasies are just fantasies", but meanwhile I'm supposed to feel bad for conventionally unattractive women and I'm supposed to be ashamed by how much I like physical beauty, even though fat women are in relationships.

I genuinely think that doubling down in this "I don't give a fuck, fuck you" attitude is unhealthy and backwards and it will only create more angst. We were almost there, it's okay to feel down about the (perhaps shallow) aspect of the sexuality of the other side, I really don't think that "owning whining men" is more important than that, women do a complete 180 on that. I do feel bad for fat women. I do think that it must suck in many ways. Even if fat women are in relationships.

She has a strong personality. A bonus double post.

I went out with a recent woman off bumble recently. Ended up doing drinks at the signature room, her favorite spot to visit when she's in town. Txting and photos and everything was all encouraging leading up to the meet. The energy in person suuuuuuuuuuucked. I tried to be pleasant enough, and was still willing to sleep with her. She was just buzzed and droning on and on about work and random shit. She asked me one whole question in about an hour and a half.

Annoyed after 1 and a half, I made my "It's getting late and it's a school night..." ender, got a half hearted peck, and left. What a waste of time, at least drinks were on her...

But what was more fascinating was the train ride back home. I sad alone in the corner of the car, annoyed and listening to a podcast when three young 20 something year olds got in on the next stop and sat across from me. Two girls, one fabulously animated gay boy in those black net shirts that I wish a big tittied goth girl would wear.

All three were loud and self described queer. The content and communication style was... dumb as shit and they weren't even buzzed yet. But what struck out to me was the following stop, a fourth girl came in and sat next to me. One of the queer girls complimented the new girl on something she was wearing and asked if she knew such and such. She said no, but immediately dove into sharing how she was at Ravinia and was totally into some performer, and it's all just been such a long day, she's off to a friend of a friend's birthday party, etc. The gay boy "excused" her friend for being so chatty to her because she's horny AF and wants to get laid. The queer girl looked down on the ground, sheepishly laughed and said "yeah well, you're cute AF, we should exchange insta's and you can DM me later tonight if you want?"

I thought the girl next to me would accept the compliment but wiggle her way out of exchanging info, messaging later. Her initial taken aback energy made me think so at least until I heard her agree, they all laughed, exchanged info, and loosely set a date to get together later in the week.

All this in a span of 7 minutes. That little exchange cut through better than what I was able to do hours earlier. I couldn't help but think, if a regular straight guy tried to do this in the same context, with a group of friends, trying to pick up a random stranger on a late night train it would almost neveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer work.

I had many feelings, and replaying it in my mind I know there are a lot of gems to take away from witnessing the whole exchange, but in the moment I was just... tired. Exhausted. Dejected. Annoyed. Happy to witness it, but questioning decades worth of little moments that didn't go anywhere. For a brief moment, I felt for the first time that maybe I just don't belong in this world anymore, the party will continue without me and I'm being asked to leave. How frustrating and angry, because I feel I just arrived to the part 10 minutes ago, can't I stay just a little longer?

I mean, I know that guy in the corner wearing the stupid shirt has been here hours before me and will stay longer than I ... what the hell... ... ...

I went to the county fair rodeo last night and I was hoping to maybe socialize with some people my age. I’m 20F, never had a boyfriend, and don’t have that many friends anymore. Groups of guys laugh me off, groups of girls don’t want to talk to me, and the girls in mixed-gender friend groups get defensive if they think the guys like me too much. I was wearing cowboy boots and one of the girls asked me if I even have a horse. No, I don’t, I don’t have enough money for one but I love everything about rodeo.

I never thought I’d have to ask the internet for advice on socializing. It seems like there’s no good place to interact with people my age. Even if young people are there, they don’t want to talk to anyone outside their groups. I want to start dating someone and that seems impossible. I’d like to find a conservative man but that’s tough. When it comes to finding dates and relationships, my experience is that nothing beats having lots of acquaintances. Even my nieces and nephews, who are teens, find their girlfriends and boyfriends through parties and hanging out with people, it’s definitely not just apps. When you’re younger, you seem to have more time and energy to meet lots of new people (temporary friends).

Obviously there are all kinds of exceptions, but most of the time when someone here says they are having trouble with that part of their life, I assume their social circle is either not wide or diverse enough.

As a guy, I hear a lot of dudes say that they feel like they can’t approach women anywhere. I do understand where the concerns coming from, but in my experience, there’s a way to do it that is unlikely to offend anyone:

If you see a woman you like, find a natural opening to talk to her, and compliment her outfit/jewelry, or ask a question relating to the setting (gym, bookstore, festival, whatever). Approach with confidence; make sure you’re not projecting nervous/anxious energy.
This is the most important part. If a girl is feeling you, you’ll know pretty quickly- she’ll be smiling, have open body language, and ask you a question back or offer a compliment of her own. If this is the case, you’re off to the races; good luck.
If she’s not feeling you (closed body language, giving short answers to questions that don’t invite a follow up), smile, say something along the lines of “thanks, sorry to bother you” and walk away. You’ll generally know whether a girl is into you or not within 30 seconds. If you’re not sure/getting mixed signals, put it in the L column and sound the retreat. Worst case scenario, the girl you approach is mildly annoyed, but she’s unlikely to call you a creep or think about you at all past that moment unless you persist in trying to get her attention.

Obviously don’t do this with every girl you see, or with too many girls in a place that you frequent (lest you catch a “that guy” reputation).

Hello I struggle with feelings of loneliness that I used to think were irrational but I feel they are more rational lately as I approach my mid-thirties. How do you/can I resolve feelings of loneliness? Yes, I am speaking of romantic loneliness. I have made strides this year participating in hobbies and have met women but I find it very difficult to make the first move. I was demoted to friend by the only woman I got to see for around five years this week and I don't know how to overcome it really. I want to receive attention/affection in kind but it never comes back to me. Women seem to receive so much attention. I would find it easier to be self-reliant and feel valid if I had received so much attention over my lifetime.

Today I went to a group meeting for people with speech impediment. This is the first time meeting people of my kind and it went super well. Then we went for beers

There were like 20 people, 10 of them on the spectrum or with mild to severe social anxiety. This is not surprising since having a speech impediment is socially crippling. However, many of them interacted despite being outside the comfort zone.

I can totally see how some of them probably struggle with dating, but I also saw a community supporting each other and socializing. I think it's all about finding the right people I guess

I had a lot of fun tbh I can't wait for the next one
