Imagine seeing human relationships through the eyes of economic terminology.

Yes, this is true for some, but I think the issue is far more complex since its so wide spread. People’s social circles are much smaller, people are far more isolated than ever before and would rather spend their time at home. We’re far more materially driven and consumerist than ever, which has fully bled into our dating habits and we’re so mentally/emotionless against each other to where everything someone does can be seen as an act of war against the opposite sex. On top of this, when things are socially and economically not good, people are less likely to congregate and our social/economic situation is a powder keg waiting to blow.

This is definitely a simplification, and generally intelligent people can take a complex issue and explain it in very simple terms. This is a pretty good effort at that I think.

I think the reality is that if fewer men are dating, that inevitably means that fewer women are dating or women are dating men who are dating multiple women.

I hear both sexes complaining so it seems like it's going both ways.

It's not a free market.

The gov't taking my money by taxes and giving it to single moms is the opposite of free market. You can't have socialist economic policies then have capitalism dating policies, and say it's a free market, the two are intertined. As a man I agree. They like to say “well back in the day” but back in the day women needed to be married for survival.

The difference now, in addition to women earning more and only wanting men that earn more than them, is that men today must not only compete against other men at the bar, social group, etc. They must also compete against all the other men in the whole city (dating apps) and potentially the entire world (DMs on social media). It’s definitely a bit different now than in the pre-Internet world.

The problem is that we DONT have a free market.

In a free market we can buy and sell as we please. The buying of sex is out right illegal in most jurisdictions.

In a free market there is free movement of goods and services. With good we call it import/export restrictions with humans we call it immigration. To bypass this we have the passport bros.

In a free market there would be no taxes and subsidies. Where I live half the paycheck goes to the government, only to have it be paid out to fund things that women traditionally needed men for, but not the things men want from women.

Every country in the world that has income above $5,000 USD per person (with the exception of Israel) has below replacement level birth rates. Population collapse is a symptom of the state of dating. There is no progressive liberal society in existence currently that promotes equality, high paying female jobs and education for women that is not suffering from an extinction level depopulation trend. Disagree. This would mean men are worse today than previous generations, which is not the case. Women have had their provider needs for a man greatly reduced, so they now get to be as shallow as men when it comes to looks while having the luxury to be more shallow when it comes to status and income. Then the online world has let them cast their net globally so that it is easy for them to get attention and meet met from a vastly larger pool than ever before. Finally, OLD heavily favors looks and that is where women have a strong advantage. All those factors make it extremely hard for a average man. Sexual competitiveness is no longer being judged against the men in your town or your small circle of friends. It’s now all the men in a massive radius and that means she will see far more chads today than she would have ever seen a few decades ago.

This really can be flipped on women, just at a different age. 40 + women would kill for a good man. But when you’re not pretty anymore, have psychological damage, are mean and generally manly nobody really wants you anymore. Maybe they should just do better if telling people who are usually just living their lives and trying as hard as they can to do better is a good way. ?

Circumstances, situations, cultural ideologies and societies are constantly changing so I have no idea why anyone would expect dating and social norms to stay the same. Instead of adapting to this change, many men are simply complaining and yelling pointlessly into the ocean about how bad things are and how they wish they could have lived in the past. Women have higher standards in the past despite being less desirable (by men's metrics) than in the past and outright raising young boys to turn out opposite to the type of men they're actually attracted to (likes assertive sexual guys but raises passive feminist guys).

Problem isn't just the market requirements, it's the entire market in general.

I never had a problem dating. I met lots of women very frequently when I wasn’t in relationships. But I did have a lot of male friends who never met women or had gf’s. It wasn’t always their looks. Sometimes it was their attitude. Or they weren’t very funny. Nothing makes you look less attractive to a woman than looking self-conscious. If you’re a shy guy your chances are very slim.

I mean, who would want to make themselves a market? Women and Men both despise the idea of treating themselves like objects. It just so happens that treating ourselves as objects has been relegated to gender roles and so one form of objectification is more common in one gender while another form is common in the other.

Viewing a woman as a sex object or a man as a status object has been common in a lot of societies. So it kinda stuck and now people are sub consciously rebelling. "Why should I pay the bill when she can pay as well?" "Why should I not have sex when I want to?" "Why should we do these things?"

it's like how arranged marriages were things and then they disappeared as people rebelled against the idea of it.

I think it's probably fair to say that a lot of the men struggling are just less competitively viable and that's the main reason why they struggle although I don't think a lot of the advancements in society over the past like 100+ years have exactly helped men be more competitively viable for dating either

So if women were less educated, the economy was better, no dating apps, etc. Then men, on average, benefit from that
