Hi! So, this may get downvoted but I feel like a lot of people here really need to hear this:

Getting approached in public by a stranger is just not a good situation to meet someone in.

I am a girl and I guess I'm a bit above-average looking, so I get hit on in public pretty regularly. Not once, no matter how good-looking or smooth-talking the guy was, did I ever feel comfortable. Nor did I ever even considered giving the guy any contact information.

There are two reasons for this:

  1. There are so many gorgeous girls around and I know I'm not prettier than all of them. So, when a guy approaches me, I don't feel special or pretty. I just feel like he probably has a lot of free time and even if I did give him any contact info, he would approach ten more girls on his way home. Girls want to feel special.
  2. Girls don't actually just wanna feel pretty. Girls wanna feel smart, loveable, kind etc. Knowing that a guy is into you based solely on your looks is a huge turn-off.

I talked about this with many of my girl friends and they all feel the same as I do. It's not about your technique, your looks or anything like that. It's just a shitty situation. I know this has been said times and times again but really, do join a club, start doing a sport. Get to know the girl at least a little bit, before you ask her out or start flirting. Compliment her personality, not just her looks. Make her feel like she's special to you.

The rules are obviously a bit different in a bar or something. But when it comes to the street or a mall or whatever, most of the things I read here are not a good way to meet anyone. And I kid you not, freaking Chris Hemsworth could approach me in public with a pick-up line and I would turn him down. Most girls would.

Edit: So, this got more attention than I expected. I wanna adress some things here.

A lot of people here take offence to me speaking for all women. I mean, sure, I’m generalising here but as long as there’s no complex study, that’s unfortunately all you’re gonna get lol. For transparency’s sake, I am at least gonna give you some info about me any my friend group so that you can all be a judge of how much my social group affects my conclusions: I am in my early twenties and a college student from central Europe. So is most of my friends. Maybe in the US/western Europe it’s different. However, from my experience, it’s not.

A lot of people are also saying that approaching women in public has worked magic for them. Good for you! If you’re in a happy commited relationship, then you’re not the person I had in mind when I wrote this. However, something makes me think that that’s not the case for most of the commenters. After all, this is a subreddit meant for getting advice on seduction.

I also got a lot of “then you’ve only met people who weren’t good at it”. That’s fair I guess. Point is, I’ve had one too many negative experience to be able to appreciate someone who actually knows what they are doing. So the end result is pretty much the same.

To the people who are saying I wouldn’t turn down Chris Hemsworth - I wouldn’t turn him down but I would turn down someone who just looks like him lol. The point is, it’s not all about being handsome and tall like some people think.

To the people who are saying that the hunter doesn’t ask the deer for advice - ew, that’s creepy.

Last thing: some people also asked me what my relationship status is. I don’t really think that matters. Point is, I spent quite a few years being single and I never appreciated being hit on in public. Even when I wanted a relationship.

Thanks to the mods! I feel like the pinned comment was very helpful.
