What this bonehead doesn’t seem to understand (or pretends not to) is the 1) inconvenience of the lack of planning/unexpected factor and 2) EXTRA LABOR it requires her to put toward their household. Oh yeah, and if you have guests you feel some responsibility to serve them what they like, so “just serve whatever” is ridiculous. Throw the whole man out.

An ex tried to press me into service to greet, host, cook, serve, wash dishes, prepare dessert and be cheerful about it for him and 2 extra family members, in his home. He was not my husband, paid zero of my bills, and expected me to go grocery shopping for everyone.

At 5pm I texted him that they were here and he should get here with an ingredient I needed by 6pm. At 6:01 I slipped out the door and went home. Wish I could have seen the look on his face as he stumbled in, deliberately late, expecting a hot dinner and all the credit for having found such a good woman to exploit.

Fuck being used by entitled slave-drivers.

FFS, cooking also means planing ahead, shopping and budgeting. On top of having 2 ( my guess is small) children to handle during the day.Noone is buying food and cooking by casually having 6 extra (grown) people in mind at all times. And the serving part.. don't get me started on that. When she finally gets to have some peace and quiet at the end of the day, her second shift at the "restaurant" starts. Ofc she has to clean afterwards and put the dishes away. That man is living in the 50s and is out of his mind.

My opinion of him plummeted the moment he said he helps with the kids. It’s not “helping” when he’s a parent, for the same reason it’s not babysitting when a father spends time with his kids. He’s not doing his wife a favor by “helping”: he’s doing the bare minimum.

This dimwit also needs to calculate how much it would cost to hire someone to do what his wife does. Being a SAHM does not negate the value of what she does.

I don’t know if cultural norms would prevent this, but if I was in her shoes and for some reason I couldn’t dump him, I’d suddenly have plans every time he brought guests home.

A big reason this man probably doesnt want to cook for his friends is because of the perceived loss of status. This is where men benefit from women being the "underling" class- because whatever loser man who is the bottom tier of men out in the world, gets to parade around with his little female slave, having her cook/clean/wait on him when he's home. That's one of the reasons he LOVES bringing his friends over 24/7, so they can see this "master/slave" relationship up front. He wants them to see him through that lense. The idea of him actually standing there, scrubbing dishes at the sink in front of them, or popping pizza bagels in the oven and plating them in front of them, chopping up veggies, etc, reduces his status from "lord of the manor" to the servant position he's delegated to his wife, so he cant stand it.

This is another reason men like to go for extremely young, attractive or skinny women. it's not real love, it's a status symbol (and I say this as a woman who's had loser men pursue me for that very reason). Anything that low status, low value men, who dont have social clout of their own, perceive as giving them cultural status/points. It can change with the times too and changing ideas of beauty. But they LOVE whenever they can get into a position where he is demonstrably "in charge" and "king" vibes. It's so pathetic and a disgusting turn off
