I work in a well known investment bank. I’m the only woman on my team as well as the youngest by 10+ years. All my of coworkers are either married or cohabiting with their spouse.

Over a few months I realised that all of their partners well at least university educated and have very respectable careers.

My coworkers vary in seniority but range from about £100k-200k salaries (convert to dollars if you need). From their sounds of their partners jobs I remember - solicitor, tech, accountant, or also in finance it’s safe to say their partners aren’t hurting for cash and depending on their bfs/husbands for money.

One guy recently had a baby and took his full four months paternity leave planned around his partners so he could be there for her and his child as much as he could. This week he took annual leave for his older kids first day of school. (Didn’t know this was a thing but apparently parents can go around meeting teachers etc on their kids first day.)

Like it’s been said many times - the economy isn’t built for single incomes to support an entire household. Especially if you want a comfortable lifestyle, it’s wise for men to want a decent earning partner.

Looking at family and friends who are older and married - most seem to marry within their socioeconomic league.

In my case, I’m still early in my finance career (I’m 23) but I make above a fair amount above average the salary, my bf is in cybersecurity - we make the exact same amount. We’re both very ambitious and it works for us, neither of us would be interested in someone who wasn’t career driven.

Having gone to private school (scholarship) and been around my friends parents, most of the time they are both in prestigious careers, similar ages, not a lot of divorce.

The rhetoric that wealthy men don’t care about a woman’s career, only her youth and looks isn’t accurate and sounds like it comes from people who haven’t actually met anyone successful/wealthy but have a Andrew Tate inspired fantasy of what it looks like.
